The Blue Devils went 4-6 in the games with two of the losses come against the Tar Heels. Three of the games were out of conference as Duke went 1-2 in those outings. This is the first meeting between Duke and Pacific and could potentially be a first matchup between the Blue Devils and former ACC rival Maryland. Duke and ACC foe NC State have met twice before. He is the first Duke player to earn the honor since Andrew Wenger in 2009 and just the fourth overall in program history. Rayyan also earned All-ACC second team and All-Freshman Team recognition. Daniele Proch garnered All-ACC first team accolades, while Will Pulisic and Brandon Williamson joined Rayyan on the second team. Ciaran McKenna rounded out the five Blue Devils on the third team. The last Blue Devil to earn a firstteam nod was Zach Mathers in 2015, while the five All-ACC selections are the most since Duke had five in The third team was started in Aedan Stanley and Rayyan were voted to the All-Freshman squad, the second most players behind the four rookies from Virginia. NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY Duke has 27 appearances in the NCAA Tournament and earned the No. 6 seed for the second straight year. The Blue Devils are overall in NCAA action. The Blue Devils have advanced to the round of 16 four times 2004, 2006, 2009, 2017 since the field expanded to 16 teams in Duke is 8-7 in second-round games and defeated FIU 2-1 last season. The Blue Devils are one of 24 teams to win an NCAA title, capturing the 1986 crown. They have advanced to three championship games and five NCAA semifinals the last being Head coach John Kerr is one of five Blue Devils to score two goals in an NCAA Tournament game, netting two against Harvard in the 1986 title run. LAST TIME OUT Fourth-ranked North Carolina scored a go-ahead goal with 3:13 remaining in the second half and held off a furious final charge from the eighth-ranked Blue Devils to earn a 2-1 victory in the ACC Men s Soccer Semifinal 11 days ago. Duke equalized with 3:42 remaining in regulation, only to have its hopes dashed 29 seconds later. Issa Rayyan netted the goal for the Blue Devils, while Will Pulisic made a seasonhigh matching five saves. Pulisic and Brandon Williamson were voted to the All-Tournament team following their performances against the Tar Heels. LAST TIME IN NCAA TOURNAMENT The 2017 Duke men s soccer season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion last season as Fordham outlasted the sixth-seeded Blue Devils in a penalty kick shootout, 8-7, in the third round. The game headed to the decisive shootout after finishing 110 minutes knotted at 2-2. Brian White and Matthias Frick provided the goals for the Blue Devils. The Rams tied the game with 3:22 left in regulation to force the eventual shootout. DUKE IN ACC PLAY Duke finished the 2018 ACC regular season with a ACC record. The Blue Devils last won five conference games in 2006, going to finish the regular season in a tie for first place. Duke has won five ACC tilts twice, but have never won more than five in program history. The Blue Devils finished third in the ACC regular season, their highest finish under Kerr. ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS Duke opens NCAA play Sunday when it hosts Pacific in the second round. The Blue Devils are and looking to advance to the round of 16 for the second consecutive season. Daniele Proch leads all scorers with 11 goals and 26 points overall, while Issa Rayyan has five goals and three assists for 13 points. Ian Murphy and defender Matthias Frick have three goals apiece. Kristófer Garðarsson has been outstanding lately and has a team-best five assists. Brandon Williamson is the engine to the midfield, while Max Moser is a threat from the right midfield and has two goals and two assists. Duke has 10 different players with at least one goal. Rookie Aedan Stanley has anchored the backline in the center back position. A captain, Ciaran McKenna is back in the lineup after sitting out the last game. Sophomore Matthias Frick is the other anchor at outside back. Frick also provides threats on set pieces offensively. Will Pulisic is the leader from the back in goal. Fresh off of a strong rookie campaign, Pulisic was named to the All-ACC second team after a solid regular season campaign. He has five shutouts this season and 12 in his career. Currently he sports a 1.20 goals against average and a.690 save percentage. He was instrumental in the ACC quarterfinal shootout victory, stopping Pitt s final two kicks and making Duke s fourth. 4 Off the bench, Duke is the deepest it s been in recent memory with a wealth of talent ready to step in. Suniel Veerakone and Seth Kuhn can provide an offensive spark off the bench, while Nicolas Macri and Colby Agu also can step in as dangerous offensive weapons. ABOUT PACIFIC Pacific earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on the strength of an regular season record. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA second round with a 1-0 win over UC Riverside Thursday night. The Tigers own wins over top 25 foes California and Portland and a road victory at reigning NCAA champion Stanford. The Tigers advanced to the second round with a 1-0 win over UC Riverside in the first round. Anthony Orendain scored in the 23rd minute and Pacific defended well to score its seventh shutout. Camden Riley and Jonathan Jimenez pace the offense with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Ten different players have at least one goal. The Tigers are averaging 1.67 goals per game and have been shut out four times. Defensively, Pacific is allowing 1.11 goals per game, but has only allowed four in the past six games overall. The Tigers have seven shutouts with Mateo Gomez collecting five of them in goal. Gomez has played 1,104 minutes and sports a 1.14 goals against average and a.650 save percentage. Pacific is on the road this year. PROCH PACES THE OFFENSE Junior forward Daniele Proch is having an outstanding 2018 with 11 goals and 26 points in 18 games. He has scored a goal in nine and a point in 10 this season. He scored in five straight games at one point, one of seven Division I players to do so this season. His 11 goals are six more than the five he scored in 20 games last season and are the most since Andrew Wenger had 17 in Proch needs three more to tie for 11th in Duke single-season history and is four shy of moving into the top 10. One of the nation s top scorers, Proch s 0.61 goals per game average is second in the league and 27th nationally, while the 1.44 points per game average is fourth in the ACC and 29th in Division I soccer. He is one of 45 Division I players to have double digit goals this season. His 26 points overall are the most by a Blue Devil since Andrew Wenger had 42 in Duke Single Season Goals Records 1. The freshman speedster tallied his fourth goal in five games to give him 13 points on the season. The 13 points are the most since Brody Huitema had 16 in his first year in FAST STARTS Duke has scored 17 first-half goals this year, three of which came against Pittsburgh, and have led at halftime seven times. The 17 tallies are the most in the opening 45 since having 19 in the 2011 campaign. Duke had 16 a year ago in 20 outings. The Blue Devils fast starts have allowed them to play with a lead. Duke has come back from trailing twice this season - a 4-2 win over Wofford and a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame. They trailed a total of 24:43 in those games. Overall this season, Duke has trailed for a total of 343:14. DEFENDING KOSKINEN The Blue Devils have had a busy home schedule in 2018, playing at Koskinen Stadium 11 times. Duke is this season and went in Under John Kerr, Duke is at home for a.708 win percentage. The Blue Devils best season was 2009, going at home. HIGH SCORING BLUE DEVILS Duke has scored at least three goals in seven of the 18 games this season and has four twice. The seven games with three-plus tallies are the most since 2006 when they had at least three nine times. The Blue Devils have been shut out six times, going in those outings. Duke has at least three goals in seven of its 10 victories. BALANCED BLUE DEVILS Eight different Blue Devils have scored multiple goals. Junior Daniele Proch leads the way with 11, but the rest has been a balanced effort. Duke s eight players with at least two goals are tied for the most with Syracuse, which also has eight players with two-plus tallies. Opponents are averaging just 4.1 shots and 1.7 shots on goal per first half this season. Duke has taken a lead into halftime seven times this season and won all seven. The lone three times the Blue Devils trailed after the first stanza they lost. The second half has not been as kind to the Blue Devils as they have allowed 16 goals and have allowed 32 more shots in the second period. DANGEROUS IN THE 18-YARD BOX Duke, with shifty players such as Issa Rayyan and Daniele Proch, has earned six penalty kicks this season by drawing fouls in the 18-yard penalty box. The six are tied for the second most in the country. The Blue Devils have finished four of their six chances from the penalty spot with Daniele Proch scoring three. DUKE IN THE POLLS Duke has been a mainstay in the top 25 all season. The lowest the Blue Devils dropped to during the year was 23rd at the end of September. They have since rebounded to hover in the 8-12 range and were 11th in the final coaches poll. ROOKIES SHINING The Blue Devils rookie group has been excellent so far this season. Three freshmen regularly start and five are playing regular minutes. In the early season win over Boston College, Ian Murphy scored two of the team s three goals, while Issa Rayyan had two assists. Murphy has three goals overall and Rayyan has five goals and three assists to his name. A trio of Blue Devils were recognized in Top Drawer Soccer s list of top rookies. Rayyan led the way at No. 7, while defender Aedan Stanley was 10th and Seth Kuhn 31st. GRUELING ACC SLATE The Blue Devils had another grueling ACC schedule playing six top 25 teams and four in the top 10. Duke went in the games with a pair of top 10 wins. The losses came to No. 7 Louisville, No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 5 North Carolina. Kerr s mentor and head coach, John Rennie, won 410 games in his 29 seasons at Duke and still ranks 22nd all-time across all three divisions with 454 wins overall. He is ninth among Division I coaches. Kerr s current.580 win percentage at Duke ( ) is fourth among Duke coaches with Rennie leading the way at.706. Roy Skinner ( ; ) is second at.607, while inaugural head coach K.C. Gerard ( ; ) finished DUKE MEN S SOCCER

5 with a.589 win percentage. DUKE VS RANKED TEAMS Duke faced eight top 25 opponents this season, going 4-4. The Blue Devils opener versus No. 20 FIU was the first time Duke had opened against a ranked opponent since hosting 20th-ranked Louisville in 2010 and it has played five top 25 teams, going 3-2. Ian Murphy made his debut in the first 11 against Boston College. AEDAN STANLEY DONS US CREST Rookie center back Aedan Stanley came to Duke with experience with the U.S. U20 National Team as well as with St. Louis FC in the United Soccer League. Stanley took part in a pair of camps recently, traveling to Span in March and down to Raleigh in July for a camp in preparation for World Cup qualifying. Prior to joining the national team in Spain, Stanley earned a start for St. Louis FC in a United Soccer League contest against RGV FC Toros and was named the Man of the Match after helping St. Louis to the 1-1 draw. VETERANS JOIN BLUE DEVILS Graduate students Kevin Feucht and Sivert Daehlie gave an already talented incoming group of freshmen a boost as veteran talents from UC Santa Barbara and Radford, respectively. They are enrolled in the Duke Fuqua School of Business Master of Management Studies program and have the potential to be major contributors. Daehlie was a top scorer for Radford and was the Big South Rookie of the Year in 2015 and All-Big South first team in He finished his career with 70 points to rank eighth at Radford. Feucht, listed by Top Drawer Soccer as one of five impact transfers to watch, was a two-time All-Big West first team selection for the Gauchos. He was voted the Big West Midfielder of the Year in 2016 and was an all-region pick both years. Feucht recorded 24 points from a team-best 11 goals in Prior to joining the Gauchos, Feucht spent one season at Division II Charleston where he helped it advance to the DII national championship game. TOP DRAWER SOCCER RECOGNIZES KUHN Top Drawer Soccer continued its preseason look at the upcoming Division I soccer season and recently listed its Preseason Best XI Teams. Rookie midfielder Seth Kuhn was voted to the Freshman Team. Kuhn, a native of Wyomissing, Pa., and product of the Philadelphia Union Academy, started all three exhibitions for the Blue Devils in the center of the midfield. He started 27 games for the Philadelphia Union Academy this past season and scored five goals. He was one of two players to play in 29 games and owned the most starting assignments of any player. Duke, through supporters of the program, spent 10 days away and were able to experience everything from a Boca Juniors game to a local rugby match. The players also had the opportunity to take in local salsa dancing, receive a tour of where the Argentinian president works and of course eat many authentic meals. The team also played four contests and finished overall. It was a great learning experience for the players and coaches as they delved into South American culture for the 10 days. ALL IN THE FAMILIES Soccer success certainly runs through the Pulisic name. Will s cousin, Christian Pulisic is a standout for the United States National Team and for Borussia Dortmund. Will experienced success with Dortmund s U19s before enrolling at Duke IN UP NEXT The winner Sunday advances to the third round to face the winner between 11-seed Maryland and NC State.
