Charlotte swept the conference awards last week as Brandt Bronico earned C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors after a hat trick vs. the Blazers and Luke Waechter was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the team s defense to consecutive shutouts. Charlotte leads the nation in team goals against average at Goalkeeper Elliot Panicco will be one of the top keepers South Carolina has seen this season. He ranks second in the nation in save percentage at.884 and second in the country in goals against average at The 49ers have eight shutouts this season, good for the second-best shutout percentage clip in the country at Charlotte is also one of the nation s top scoring offenses, averaging 2.17 goals per game, which leads C-USA and ranks eighth in the country. Bronico leads the team in points with 16 (6G, 4A). Marco Sunol-Rojas (4G, 3A) and Harrison Steadman (5G) also have tallied double-digit points this year for Charlotte. The 49ers well-balanced offensive attack features six players with multiple goals on the year.

Pyle posted back-to-back shutouts at FIU and vs. UAB for the Gamecocks. He had five saves in a 1-0 win vs. UAB and three saves in a 0-0 draw at FIU, including one save on a Panther penalty kick in the 108th minute. Pyle is on the season with 34 saves and four shutouts. He ranks in the top-20 nationally in save percentage (.854) and goals against average (0.582). Gudjonsson Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week Sophomore Bjorn Gudjonsson was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3 after recording three goals in two games. Gudjonsson recored the first-multi goal game of his career when he scored twice in a 3-1 win vs. High Point. He found the back of the net again in the first half of the team s 2-1 vs. Marshall on Oct. 2. The accolade was the first player of the week honor for Gudjonsson. He was the second-straight Gamecock to win the award as senior Kurtis Turner won the week before. Turner Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week Senior Kurtis Turner won his first career conference player of the week award after being named the C-USA Men s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26. Turner tallied three points (1G, 1A) including the game-winning goal on the road at No. 18 Furman. Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month The Carolina men s soccer team supported Ovarian Cancer Awareness month in September by wearing teal warmup jerseys for their matches. In addition to the teal warm up jerseys and shoelaces for the South Carolina team, the Gamecock coaching staff and support staff wore teal polo shirts. Record Crowd Watched South Carolina s Season Opener vs. Clemson A new Stone Stadium attendance record was set last Friday in the 2016 season opener vs. Clemson, as 6,892 fans attended the matchup. The mark broke the previous record of 6,157, also set vs. Clemson on Sept. 3, Preseason Conference USA Poll In the 2016 Conference USA Preseason Poll, South Carolina, was slotted in a tie for fourth with New Mexico in the coaches preseason predictions. Kentucky was selected as the league favorite, while Charlotte and FIU ranked second and third, respectively.
