Mission 3-Peat Accomplished Niagara s season-long slogan was made into a reality when the Purple and White won the 2011 MAAC Championship on Nov. 20. NU became the fourth team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) history to win three straight titles and the first since Siena won four straight from ; the Purple Eagles started their current run by snapping Siena s run in the 2009 MAAC Championship Semifinal. Three Times A Charm Niagara claimed its third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Nov. 20. The No. 1 seed Purple Eagles defeated the second-seeded Fairfield Stags in four sets, 23-25, 25-17, 34-32, 25-18, in the 2011 MAAC Championship Final to win the conference tournament for the third straight year and third time in program history. 3-v-3 Niagara and Northern Iowa have won their respective conference tournaments the last three seasons. 2 Up Next No. 6 Northern Iowa Panthers (32-1, 18-0 MVC) The Northern Iowa Panthers will be the host team of the four-team bracket as part of the Gainesville Regional. UNI earned the No. 6 overall seed after going 32-1 this season and has the best winning percentage in the nation (.970). UNI enters the NCAA Tournament on a 23-match winning streak, including sweeping both matches at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament for its third straight conference championship and 15th overall. The Panthers will be making their 17th appearance at the NCAA Tournament and sixth consecutive trip. Senior setter Bre Payton headlines the club as she earned MVC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season and was named MVC Tournament MVP. She was joined on the first team by senior middle blocker Michelle Burrow, junior outside hitter Amy Braun and junior middle blocker Krista DeGeest. Head coach Bobbi Petersen was named MVC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. The Panthers are 59-9 at the McLeod Center, including 16-1 this season. Against The Field Of 64 Niagara has faced one opponent in this year s field of 64, the American University Eagles. The Purple Eagles played the Eagles at the Cornell Tournament on Sept. 2; NU fell 3-1. AU plays Delaware on Friday in University Park, Pa. as part of the Lexington Regional. Streaks...W RPI...5 Morgan, Hedrick Highlight MAAC Awards Seniors Sam Morgan and Hannah Hedrick each earned individual awards as Niagara placed four Purple Eagles on All-MAAC Teams announced at this year s awards banquet. Morgan was named MAAC Libero of the Year. The Cincinnati, Ohio native ended the regular season fourth in the nation with 6.0 digs per set and has been named defensive player of the year a conference-leading five times this season. Morgan set the school s single-season digs record with 654, breaking her own record she set in 2009 (613). Morgan became the program s career leader in digs on Sept. 2 and is the conference active leader in digs (2,350). Hedrick was recognized as MAAC Co- Defensive Player of the Year. The two-time MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player won the award as a sophomore in Morgan and Hedrick were joined by junior Kari Honomichl on the All-MAAC First Team. Honomichl earned her first All- MAAC First Team honors, after earning second team honors last year. Last year s rookie of the year, Ellen Senf was selected to the All-MAAC Second Team. Lisa Bilich, Kathy Bibler, Hedrick, Honomichl, Michelle James, Morgan, Senf and Amanda Wilken were all named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Senior Class Success The senior class of Kathy Bibler, Lisa Bilich, Hannah Hedrick, Michelle James and Sam Morgan are the winningest class in Niagara volleyball history. The quintet have been a part of three conference championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances and have set school records in overall wins, conference wins, home winning streak and conference winning streak. Amanda Wilken All Good Things Must Come To An End Niagara was in a midst of several winning streaks until they came to a surprising end on Nov. 5 versus conference rival Siena. The Purple Eagles 33-match win streak against MAAC opponents was the second longest in conference history. The defeat at home was Niagara s first in MAAC play since Sept. 19, 2009 (24 matches). NU s 15-match overall win streak and its 17-match home win streak, which was sixth in the nation entering the weekend, also vanished. Hed(rick) Of The Class Senior Hannah Hedrick leads the Purple Eagles in kills (426) and kills per set (3.67), which places her third in the conference. Hedrick is second on the team in digs (361) and digs per set (3.11), and leads the team with 17 double-doubles. Hedrick moved into second place in career kills and currently has 1,578. Ace Up Your Sleeve Niagara leads the conference and is ranked seventh in the nation with 1.74 aces per set. Three players rank in the nation s top 120, led by Kari Honomichl who is 31st in the nation with a conference-best 0.42 aces per set. Can You Dig It? Libero Sam Morgan became the program s career digs leader earlier this season and is currently the conference s active career leader in digs. Morgan also broke her own school s single-season digs record with 691 this season. Morgan has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week five times en route to earning her first libero of the year award. Morgan leads the conference and is fifth in the nation with 5.96 digs per set. Morgan has recorded double-digit digs in every match she has played in (129), which leads the nation. Honomich Named MOP Junior outside hitter Kari Honomichl continued her breakout season by claiming the 2011 MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. Honomichl rose to the occasion in the two-day tournament, in particularly in the third set of the championship match. Honomichl recorded the final two kills in the set to win, 34-32, as NU would defeat Fairfield in four sets. Honomichl had 34 kills and 21 digs in seven sets in the tournament. Honomichl was named to the All-MAAC First Team after earning second team honors last season Senf Close To Home Sophomore right side Ellen Senf followed her standout freshman season with a solid sophomore campaign. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year is third on the squad in kills (286), kills per set (2.47) and her.274 hitting percentage led the team and is seventh in the conference. The St. Paul, Minn. native will be 3 ½ hours away from home when NU plays UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Bayer Relief Freshman setter Nicole Bayer had some large shoes to fill when she had to replace the two-time MAAC Setter of the Year Michelle James. James, the 2011 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, injured her knee in Niagara s fifth match of the season. Bayer stepped in and dished out 1,204 assists on the season. Her assists per set leads the MAAC and rank 15th in the nation. Down but Not Out Senior Michelle James was tabbed 2011 MAAC Player of the Year, but her season was ended abruptly with an ACL injury. James, who set the program s all-time assists record as a junior, redshirted for the rest of the season and will be back for the 2012 campaign. CAREER RECORD WATCH Assists 1. The win was especially significant as it came on the second annual Block Blood Cancers match raising awareness and funds to fight leukemia & lymphoma. Susan s father, Don Clements, passed away from AML leukemia in Oct The win over the Orange was also NU s first-ever in the series. Clements now has 87 wins, which are 17 more than second place Barb Green s 70. Light The Night Walk For the second straight year, Niagara has partnered with the Western New York Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) chapter for the event and participated in the annual Light the Night Walk fundraiser at Delaware Park in Buffalo in September. Niagara hosted the second annual Block Blood Cancers match, bringing awareness to leukemia and lymphoma cancers, on Sept. 25 against Syracuse. The concept was spearheaded by head Susan Clements whose father, Don Clements, was battling leukemia and lost his battle during the 2010 season.

6 Coaching Staff Fifth Season Georgetown College 02 Head Coach Susan Clements Susan Clements begins her fifth season at the helm of the Purple Eagle volleyball program, while looking for her third consecutive MAAC Championship. Clements has built a once doormat program into the class of the conference. The Purple Eagles have reached heights never seen before while shattering school records in the last two seasons. Clements enters the 2011 season eight wins shy of tying Barb Green for most wins program history. In 2010, Clements led Niagara to a second conseuctive MAAC Championship, becoming the first Purple Eagle program to win backto-back conference tournament championships. Niagara was awarded with its second straight NCAA Tournament bid where it competed well against three-time defending national champion Penn State and eventual champion that season. The Purple Eagles set several school records during the 2010 season. Niagara finished the season with a 25-9 record for the most wins in program history. The Purple Eagles also had the most regular season wins (22), conference wins (17), the program s longest match win streak (19) and claimed its first-ever regular season title. Niagara s 19-match win streak was the sixth longest in the nation when it ended. The Purple Eagles s 17 conference wins were tied for second most in MAAC history and NU ended the season on a 16-match conference win streak (19 matches including the MAAC Tournament). Clements team, which had at least one player earn a conference player of the week honors 11 times, took the bulk of the conference end of season awards. Niagara had the most members (3) named to the All-MAAC Team in setter Michelle James, outside hitter Hannah Hedrick and middle blocker Amanda Wilken. James was named MAAC Setter of the Year for the second straight season, while Hedrick earned MAAC Tournament MVP for the second straight season; they were both joined by libero Sam Morgan on the all-tournament team. Niagara also had the rookie of the year in right side Ellen Senf. In 2009, she led the Purple Eagles to a winning record of 23-9, their first MAAC Championship and the team s first NCAA Tournament appearence. Under Clements leadership, two players were named to the First- Team All-MAAC, one to the Second-Team All-MAAC, seven to the 2009 MAAC All-Academic Team and two to the 2009 MAAC All-Tournament Team. The 2009 MAAC Setter of the Year, MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, and the MAAC Most Outstanding Player were also chosen from Clements squad. She was named the 2009 MAAC Coach of the Year and the 2009 National Coach of the Year by College Volleyball Update. In 2008, she guided the nation s youngest team (four sophomores and six freshmen) to six victories. The highlight of the 2008 campaign came when freshman setter James claimed MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year honors after breaking the single-season record for assists with 1,149. James would up her mark in 2010 to 1,238 helpers. In her first season in 2007, Clements doubled the team s previous win total and tied the then-school record for conference victories. Clements coached six players on the MAAC All-Academic Team and led Raelean Rush to First-Team All-MAAC honors. The Purple Eagles also earned their first win against Buffalo in program history. Clements also has local rival Buffalo s number after doing something no NU coach had ever done. The Purple Eagles are 2-2 against the Bulls under Clements, while the previous eight coaches in program history were Niagara has excelled in the classroom under her tutledge. The Purple Eagles placed eight student-athletes on the MAAC All-Tournament in 2010 and seven in The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rewarded Niagara as one of the 92 Division I programs to earn the prestigious team academic award for the third straight season ( ). The team s grade-point average of 3.64 was the highest GPA amongst the 18 athletic programs at Niagara for the second straight season. The team has been active in the community. In 2010, Clements initiated the Leukemia & Lymphoma Awarness Night and partned with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western New York where they raised funds and participated in the Light the Night Walk. Susan Clements and Ellen Senf at the 2010 NCAA Tournament Clements came to Niagara from Georgetown College in Kentucky where she was the head coach of the Lady Tiger program in 2005 and 2006.

7 Coaching Staff In 2006, the Lady Tigers finished with a overall record and 7-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference. For the second consecutive year, the Lady Tigers won the Mid-South Tournament and Region XI titles and earned a berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament. In the polls, the Lady Tigers finished 25th nationally. In her first year as a head coach, Clements led Georgetown to records of overall and 10-0 in the Mid-South. The Lady Tigers won the regular season, tournament and region titles and earned a berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Georgetown finished the season ranked 10th nationally. Under Clements tutelage, current assistant coach Kara Hellmann was named a Second Team All-American for the second time in her career, Amy Schiller earned Third-Team All-American, two Lady Tigers earned all-region accolades, five earned all-conference honors and one all-academic recognition. Clements also was honored as the Mid-South Conference and AVCA Region XI Coach of the Year in Prior to beginning her coaching career, Clements spent the summer of 2003 as a member of a professional volleyball tour which competed in five European countries. She was offered playing contracts in Switzerland and Germany. Before taking the assistant coach s job at Georgetown, the Lynchburg, Va., native coached at Nike High Performance camps and still worksseveral elite summer camps at the University of North Carolina. Clements earned a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Niagara May A 2002 Georgetown College graduate, Clements spent one season as assistant coach after a standout career as a Lady Tiger. During her three seasons, she was named Mid-South Conference and Region XI Player of the Year twice. Clements was also named to the NAIA s National Tournament All-Tournament team all three seasons. Clements was Georgetown College s second female student-athlete named a NAIA First Team All-American, earning the honor as a junior and senior. Senior Michelle James and Susan Clements Fifth Season Georgetown College 06 Assistant Coach Kara Hellmann The NAIA all-time assist leader, Kara Hellmann, begins her fifth year as assistant coach on Monteagle Ridge. Last season, she continued to coach then-junior setter Michelle James and helped her break her previous mark for the Niagara Single-Season Assist record with 1,238. The junior is Niagara s Career Assists leader with 3,586 assists, was named to the 2009 & 2010 All-MAAC First Team and was named the 2009 & 2010 MAAC Setter of the Year under Hellmann s guidance. In 2008, Hellmann put then-freshman setter James under her wing as a former setter and helped her set the Niagara Single Season Assist record with 1,149. The rookie claimed MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year honors in In 2007, Hellmann coached Mallory Boron, who finished her career with the fourth-most assists in school history. She currently is in fifth-place on Niagara s Career Assists list with 2,332 helpers. Hellmann came to Niagara University after coaching the 2006 season under current head coach Susan Clements at Georgetown College in Kentucky. Working directly with the setters, Hellmann helped the Lady Tiger program earn an NAIA Tournament berth, a Region IX title and Mid-South Conference Tournament crowns last year. Under Hellmann s mentoring, setter Jenna Gronotte was named first-team Mid-South Conference after averaging assists per game. All-time assists leaders: Michelle James (NU) and Kara Hellmann (NAIA) Prior to joining the Georgetown College staff, Hellmann was the associate head coach for the Club South Volleyball Association and was a private volleyball instructor in Louisville, Ky. The 2006 Georgetown College graduate had a standout career as a Lady Tiger setter. She holds the NAIA national career record for assists (7,527), was a two-time NAIA second-team All-American, the 2005 AVCA NAIA Region XI Player of the Year, three-time Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and 2005 Georgetown College Female Athlete of the Year. The Lady Tigers all-time career and single season assist leader, Hellmann helped the team to three NAIA National Tournament appearances, including an automatic berth in 2005, the 2005 Region XI title, three Region XI runnerup finishes and four Mid-South Conference regular-season and tournament crowns. The Louisville, Ky., native has coached numerous volleyball camps and was Georgetown College s assistant camp director. Hellmann worked several elite summer camps at the University of North Carolina and at the Nike High Performance camps. Additionally, she worked Mid America Sports Complex Volleyball and Holy Cross High School Volleyball camps in Louisville.
