The American went 4-4 in eight nonconference games this week, as the league holds a (.603) record against other conferences this season. Cincinnati, UConn and No. 12 ECU joined the Cougars in collecting a Tuesday win. The American gears up for the fifth week of conference play, starting Thursday. The American holds the fifth-best NCAA RPI ranking among the 31 Division I conferences. With ECU at No. 11 and UConn at No. 27, The American is one of six conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC) to boast two top-30 RPI teams. Six of the conference s nine teams are top-100 RPI programs. It will be a battle between two of the top-four teams in The American, as the Pirates and Huskies square off in Greenville, N.C., this week. Both sides came out on top in their past conference series, each winning three American sets on the year. ECU bounced back from a weekend setback, completing a season series sweep of Elon with a 9-4 win on the road Tuesday night. UConn also won on the road Tuesday, holding on for a 10-7 win at UMass Amherst. The Huskies have won seven of their last 10 games. Tulane saw its six-game winning streak come to an end against New Orleans in a loss on the road Tuesday night. It marked the 13th time this season the Green Wave scored in double digits. Kody Hoese leads the conference in eight offensive categories and is the nation s leader in home runs (19) and total bases (133). Tulane will face Memphis on the road in a three-game series starting Friday. The Tigers also look to rebound following a 5-2 loss at No. 15 Ole Miss Tuesday. Memphis held the Rebels to their second-lowest hits total (three) of the season. Coming off wins over ranked opponents, Cincinnati and Houston will put their winning streaks on the line this weekend when the Cougars welcome the Bearcats to Schroeder Park for a three-game American series. Houston has won five-straight games after taking down No. 7 Texas A&M 4-1 Tuesday night. The Bearcats have won three in a row after avenging a loss from last Wednesday with a 15-5 victory over No. 28 Miami (Ohio). Starting the season 1-9, Cincinnati has won seven of its last 10 games to move into third place in American standings with UConn. UCF and Wichita State will look to get back on track, as the Knights make the trek to Wichita for a three-game set. UCF fell 5-3 against Florida Atlantic Tuesday night, as the Shockers look to snap a six-game slide. The two clubs meet in a series for just the second time, as UCF took two of three in last year s inaugural meeting. USF also looks to rebound this weekend when it hosts The Citadel for a three-game series outside of conference play. WEEKLY HONORS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kody Hoese * Jr. * 3B * Tulane Hoese earns his second-straight American Player of the Week honor a week after being named National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The junior third baseman slugged and hit.467 through a 4-0 week, including a weekend sweep of USF. He had seven hits, 10 runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles, three home runs and drew two walks. Hoese had at least one hit and an RBI in each game, including a 3-for-5 showing with three RBIs in a win over Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday. He extended his national home runs lead to 19, hitting a long ball in three games. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Lael Lockhart Jr. * Jr. * LHP/DH * Houston Lockhart Jr. recorded a career-high nine strikeouts and surrendered one unearned run across 6.0 innings in a 13-5 series-opening win at Wichita State Friday night. The southpaw junior picked up his third win of the season and scattered five hits and one walk through his outing. He also spent time as Houston s designated hitter for three games, driving in three runs and recording two hits and two runs scored. WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Grant Schuermann * R-Sr. * LHP * UCF Schuermann tossed 6.0 scoreless innings in his start Friday night, as UCF blanked Cincinnati The southpaw struck out five and worked around one walk and a pair of hits. He retired the side in order four times and allowed only two runners to reach scoring position. Schuermann kept a no-hitter through four innings. Joey Bellini * Jr. * SS * Cincinnati Bellini went 11-for-20 (.550) with three RBIs, a double and three walks in a 3-2 week, helping the Bearcats to a series win over UCF. Bellini hit in each game, registering multi-hit showings three times. He went 4-for-6 against Miami (Ohio) Wednesday night and 3-for-4 with two RBIs against UCF in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday. Christian Fedko * So. * 2B/DH * UConn Fedko batted.412 with seven hits, six RBIs, three doubles and three walks in a 4-1 week. He had multiple hits in three games and reached safely in all five contests. Fedko hit two doubles and drove in three runs in an 11-6 win at Bryant and pounded-out two more hits in a 6-2 win against Northeastern. In Sunday s rubber match against Memphis, he went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and hit the two-run gamewinning single in the eighth. Joe Davis * Sr. * 1B * Houston Davis recorded three multi-hit performances, hit three home runs and slugged.941 with a.412 batting average (7- for-17) in a 4-0 week, including a weekend sweep of Wichita State. He also scored five times and drew four walks. Davis went 2-for-4 with a home run to help the Cougars clinch the Don Sanders Cup against Sam Houston State on Tuesday. He went 3-for-5 with two multi-run homers and five RBIs in the Cougars series opener at Wichita State. Hunter Goodman * Fr. * DH/C * Memphis Goodman hit.538 (7-for-13) in Memphis' three games at UConn. The freshman plated three runs and tallied four RBIs. Goodman enjoyed a 4-for-5 day Saturday, including his fifth home run of the season.

2 AMERICAN NOTEBOOK 3-for-4 The American has had at least three NCAA tournament teams in each of the last four seasons. Big Four UConn, ECU, Houston and USF were among the 64 teams that competed in the 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship. The American s four selections were the most for the conference since 2015 and tied for the fourth-most bids with the Big Ten and Pac-12 among the 31 NCAA Division I conferences. ECU hosted the Greenville Regional, while UConn and USF were chosen as No. 2 seeds in the Conway Hill and DeLand Regionals, respectively. Houston was selected as the No. 3 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. National Hosts ECU became the third conference team to host an NCAA regional. A conference team has hosted a regional in four of the past five seasons, including when Houston was a host in Houston (2017 and 2015) and Louisville (2014) are the two other American Athletic Conference teams to have hosted a regional over the league s fiveyear span. It marked the second-straight year in which the league boasted all but one team in the top 100 of the final RPI report. Missouri Valley Pedigree Current members of the American Athletic Conference have made a combined 16 appearances in the College World Series. Wichita State leads the conference with seven appearances, while UConn has made five. The Shockers won a national championship in 1989, while Houston was the national runner-up in The last team among The American s current membership to reach the CWS was Tulane, which advanced to Omaha in Houston and Louisville both advanced to the Super Regional round in the 2014 NCAA Championship, while ECU reached the Super Regionals in The American has one CWS appearances to its credit. Louisville advanced to Omaha in 2014, when the Cardinals competed in the conference. ECU has made 29 appearances, followed by Wichita State (27), Tulane (21), Houston (21), UConn (20), USF (13), UCF (12), and Cincinnati and Memphis (five each). Preseason All-Americans Coming off tremendous 2018 seasons, UConn lefthanded pitcher Mason Feole and ECU outfielder Bryant Packard each collected more hardware to start off their 2019 campaigns, as both players were selected as Perfect Game/ Rawlings, Collegiate Baseball, D1Baseball and NCBWA Preseason All-America honorees. Packard was additionally named to Baseball America's preseason second team. Feole earned preseason All-America status after a stellar sophomore season. The southpaw finished the year with a 2.50 ERA, nine wins and 120 strikeouts through 16 starts and innings pitched. His wins and strikeouts each ended the year tied for first in The American. Packard, The American s 2018 Player of the Year, became the first player in ECU history to earn seven All-America nods in a single season. Packard had at least one hit in a record 32-consecutive games on the way to setting the league s single-season batting average record at.406, which ended the year ranked sixth nationally. He also stood first in the American Athletic Conference in hits (89), slugging percentage (.671) and total bases (147). Kuchmaner s Perfect Game ECU sophomore LHP Jake Kuchmaner tossed the 28th perfect game in NCAA Division I history. He struck out eight batters, allowing no hits, runs, or walks in a 3-0 win at Maryland on March 17. Retiring all 27 hitters he faced, Kuchmaner recorded at least one strikeout in seven frames with two in the eighth. A week prior to his perfect-game performance, Kuchmaner came one out away from registering a no-hitter in a 3-2 win at then-no. 10 Ole Miss. He struck out nine batters and took a no-hitter into the ninth inning (8.2 innings) before giving up his only hit of the day with two down in the final frame. He was named National Pitcher of the Week for two-consecutive weeks for his tremendous back-to-back starts. Davis Demolishes Records Houston senior first baseman and designated hitter Joe Davis continues to make American Athletic Conference history at the plate. He owns the league s all-time career records in hits, RBIs, home runs, total bases and RBIs per game. Davis is a three-time American All-Conference selection and two-time conference Player of the Week MLB Picks Wichita State's Alec Bohm (3rd overall) and USF's Shane McClanahan (31st overall) highlighted the group of 38 student-athletes drafted by the Major League Baseball in The 38 selections set a conference record, bettering last year's total of 26. All nine conference teams were represented in the draft, as Wichita State led the way with 10 picks, the third-most selections among all college programs. Furthermore, the two first-round picks are the most in conference history, as the league has seen at least one of its players get selected in the MLB first round in each of the past four seasons. A Trio of Champions Three teams have won the American Athletic Conference baseball title. Houston (2014 and 2017) and ECU (2015 and 2018) have captured two, while UConn won the title in The Cougars own the best conference tournament record with a 14-5 mark. The 2019 champion will be decided at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Fla., in May once again. Live on the ADN The American Digital Network (ADN) will produce 10 regular-season conference events in the spring, including four baseball games. Spring broadcasts will begin with baseball on Friday, March 22, when UCF travels to defending conference champion ECU for the opening weekend of league play. The Pirates will appear again in the next baseball broadcast, traveling to Houston on Friday, April 5. The Cougars will be at USF on Friday, April 26, before Wichita State travels to UConn for a Friday, May 3 production. Additionally, The American s full slate of spring championship events will also feature prominently on the ADN. The first five days (May 21-25) of action in the baseball championship will be produced by the ADN with the tournament final streamed on ESPNews on May 26. The championship will take place May Spectrum Field, which is regarded as one of the finest minor league playing and practice facilities in the nation, has hosted the American Athletic Conference Championship since 2014 and was the site of seven Big East Championships. Spectrum Field serves as the spring training site for the Philadelphia Phillies, and it has housed the Phillies Florida State League affiliate Clearwater Threshers since the facility opened in The stadium s seating capacity is 8,500. The outfield dimensions measure 329 feet down the left field line, 408 feet to center, and 330 down the right field line. The $25 million facility features a 360-degree main concourse, grass berm seating, group picnic areas, a children s play area and a state-of-the-art video scoreboard. In addition to a major-league quality playing field, the facility also houses the Carpenter Complex an adjacent four-diamond practice complex, which allows teams to take full-field batting practice while a game is taking place in the stadium. Eight teams will qualify for the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship, which will utilize a double elimination format in two brackets, leading up to the May 26 final. Three teams have won The American title. Houston (2014 and 2017) and ECU (2015 and 2018) captured two championships, while UConn won the title in American Athletic Conference Baseball
