1 Document Safer Roads Ottawa Workplan The 2012 Safer Roads Ottawa (SROP) implementation plan includes: The production of a video to help launch the new SROP; The delivery of an annual year-long campaign-based Selective Traffic Enforcement (STEP); The delivery of a major campaign on distracted driving with a focus on non-intersection single vehicle collisions; The delivery of a major campaign on aggressive driving with a focus on right angle collisions; The continued enhancement of community-based and the City s involvement in these clinics; The exploration of a pedestrian and/or cycling diversion program wherein training would be an alternative to paying traffic tickets for specific violations; Exploring/reviewing the feasibility of a by-law to provide for a one metre buffer zone between bicycles and motor vehicles, and, Exploring/reviewing the feasibility of a by-law to provide for a one metre buffer zone between motorcycles and other motor vehicles. 4 Action Description Lead Agency, or Vehicle Rumble Strips Commence installation of edge-line rumble strips on new road construction and overlays where there are shoulders (where possible) Infrastructure Services Vehicle Other Roadside Safety Improvements Commence implementation of low cost countermeasures such as ensuring that roadside gravel shoulders are compacted (i.e. no loose gravel) and removing ditches where practicable to expand recoverable zone Infrastructure Services, and Vehicle Warning Signage Commence signage reviews in rural areas and augment/upgrade i.e. warning signs, Vehicle Chevron Signs and Reflectors i.e. Cat s Eyes Commence installation of chevron signs and reflectors along curves in rural locations where collisions are high, Page 4

Bus Watch Red Light Cameras Establish Bus Watch mechanism for school bus drivers and the public to report drivers disobeying school bus laws Install additional red light cameras at higher risk locations, School Bus Companies Large Stop Signs, Large Stop Ahead Signs, Exponential Install large stop signs, large stop ahead signs, exponential stop bars and flashing beacon lights at higher risk locations where appropriate Page 6
