4 THE EAGLES ARE IN TOWN We would like to welcome all the players and staff from Bedfont Sports to Honeycroft this afternoon for this Bostik League South Central Division fixture, we would also like to welcome our officials Harry Scott, Dave Pilling, Jake Atkinson and Match Observer Ray Herb, we hope you all have an enjoyable stay with us and a safe journey home. After an embarrasing loss at ur near rivals Hayes & Yeading United last Tuesday evening Tony and his squad will be looking to put right those things we did not do so well at on Tuesday at the Skyex Stadium, it's bonfire weekend so let's see some fireworks! We welcome back Matty Woods to the club after a short time spent at Egham Town and Windsor FC, we also welcome Jean-Paul Antwi who started his career at Walthamstown then short spells at Northwood and Hayes & yeading before moving to Wealdstone, we welcome him and look forward to him spending time with us. Our Youth Team should have been at Holmer Green last Thursday but due to a floodlight failure two days prior to the match the game was postponed. They now go into their Jeff Ritson Cup match away at Northwood FC on Thursday 13th November without a competitive match since 15th October. They still lie third in the league behind Hanwell Town and Holmer Green. There will be a minutes silence held before today's match in remembereance of all those lost in conflicts around the world since the end of the First World War, we ask you to respect the silence this afternoon. On Tuesday evening we make the short journey to Wealdstone FC to take on the Vanarama South team in the Middlesex FA Senior Challenge Cup, entrance prices are 8 Adults, 5 Concessions and 3 U18's, come along and cheer on the squad. We have now re-arranged our away fixture at Chipstead, this will now be played on Tuesday 4th December with a 7:45pm kick off. 'COME ON YOU REDS'

8 Bedfont Sports Club was founded in 2002, when with considerable help from the local Council a lease was taken out on the near derelict Hatton Road Recreation Ground. The only building on the site was refurbished to allow use as a bar and clubhouse on the ground floor and changing rooms on the upper one. Most of this work was carried out or supervised by the Chairman Dave Reader. BEDFONT SPORTS FC CLUB HISTORY Much work was also done to the playing area to provide playable pitches for Bedfont Sports on Saturdays and Bedfont Sunday, one of the oldest Sunday teams in Middlesex, on Sundays. To give the Club a junior section Bedfont Eagles, formed in 1978, joined the two adult Clubs a short time later. Bedfont Sports started in the Hounslow and District League for two seasons and then joined the Middlesex County Football League, this being a feeder League to Step 5. More work was needed to enable the team to play in the Premier Division of the MCFL to which they gained promotion in 2004/05. After many ups and downs promotion was finally achieved to the Combined Counties in season 2008/09. In the Combined Counties League Bedfont gained promotion to the Premier Division in season 2011/12 and have spent the past few seasons consolidating that position. Last season so all our hard work pay off when we gained promotion to the Bostik League finishing 2nd behind Westfield FC During this time the club worked hard to raise funds to upgrade our facility to one of the best in Middlesex. In 2010 we started work on Flood Lights and a new dressing room block was built together with a 3G five a side pitch and an 11v11 3G pitch along with over 500 seats in 4 stands on all 4 sides of the ground, which now complete gives us one of the best facilities not only in Middlesex but in the south of England. Bedfont Sports is a true Community Club catering for 23 Junior Teams. a girls section, 2 Bedfont Sunday teams and our 1st Team now ply their trade at Step 4 for the 1st time in the clubs history.
9 The Youth Section is particularly vibrant playing in the Bostik Youth League (currently Top of the Division) and having won the Middlesex County Senior Cup back in We are very proud that our Youth teams have been home-grown from Bedfont Eagles and with some real talent coming through this will continue for years to come. BEDFONT SPORTS FC CLUB HISTORY A Club such as Bedfont Sports could not exist without sponsors so a big thank you to them and to the volunteers who give their time on match days and to the marking and upkeep of the ground and facilities.

19 This week s NLP programme copy below, written by Alex narey. With Shahid Khan withdrawing his interest in purchasing Wembley Stadium last week, many felt it was another door being slammed shut in the face of grassroots football, with the lower levels of the game set to benefit financially had the national stadium been sold to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham owner. I myself was always sceptical of the sale, mainly because I questioned whether the figures that were being bandied about would actually go back into grassroots football there were far too many other people in the queue wanting their slice of the pie. But the non-sale has irked people because they saw this as a great opportunity for the FA to actively do something for the grassroots game, and let s face it, something needs to be done because some of the statistics make for grim reading whether it s 67 per cent of pitches deemed not to be of adequate quality or the startling lack of 3G facilities in the UK compared to other European nations. Those who opposed the sale believe more Football League and Premier League clubs should be helping out, and that we should not need to sell Wembley to inject funds into grassroots. But the FA doesn t have the power to instruct clubs to do that, and this is where the government must step in because they have neglected the game and simply passed the buck to others. They are almost saying: this is your problem, sell you house and all the furniture and be done with it! The money from the Wembley sale, even if it had come down to the lower levels of the game, would merely have served as a plaster on an open wound.
20 Measures must be put in place to ensure more money comes down from the Premier League, whether through taxes on a player s wage or a percentage of an agent s fee. By selling Wembley and giving the grassroots game a chunk of the money, it is only ignoring the continued impact the Premier League should be having on the development of the game in this country. There are success stories of them helping out, but let s not begin to kid ourselves: they aren t doing anywhere near enough. Adam Ellis Digital Greenways Publishing
