December 6, 2009 Hawks Win State Championship Sacramento, CA - The undefeated Hawks marched to their second State Championship Title in four years on Sunday with a 1-0 win over host Cosumnes River College. Battling the elements as well as a talented team with the luxuries of home field advantage, the Hawks came through, deservedly gaining the State Crown with another fine performance. In cold, blustery conditions, the Hawks failed to convert concerted pressure in to goalscoring opportunities in the first-half. Brooke McCaughin went close hitting the cross-bar from a free-kick and Bri Lopez always looked dangerous down the right-hand side but the sides went in to the break on even terms. Within minutes of the re-start, Lopez went close, and Leslie Bryant headed over as the Hawks began to turn the pressure in to chances. Mid-way through the half, Team Captain, Amanda Hardeman broke the deadlock. A McCaughin corner was halfcleared to Hardeman who took the ball on her chest and crashed home a half-volley from fifteen yards. It was a superb strike and the Hawks continued to look for the second goal. As the end of the game approached, Cosumnes River pushed numbers on. The Hawks defended strongly and Cassie Becker was called upon to make one late save in preserving the shut-out. At the final whistle, Santiago Canyon College celebrated and Amanda Hardeman and Jessica Brillantes stepped up to collect the Championship trophy. Jacqueline Turner was announced as Tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Hawks were roared on by a huge contingency from Orange County who had made the seven hour journey to Sacremento. They were rewarded with a great win for their efforts. Thanks to all those who travelled and congratulations to Santiago Canyon College Women s Soccer on an outstanding and undefeated season. December 4, 2009 Hawks 3, American River 2 Sacramento, CA - The Hawks advanced to the State Championship Final for the third time in four years with a 3-2 win over American River College. In a high intensity battle, American River College took the lead from a free-kick around the half hour mark and held the lead in to the halftime break. The Hawks responded with in minutes of the second half beginning, when Bri Lopez connected with Michelle Carels who fired the equalizer from close range. Lopez herself then put the Hawks ahead before American River tied it up from a corner to make it 2-2. A ferocious strike from Carels put the Hawks in the lead again but more drama was to follow when Mo Silva was given a straight red card for retaliation. The Hawks re-organized and saw the remaining 15 minutes out with ten men to earn a place in the State Championship Final. The Final will be played against the host college Cosumnes River on

Sunday, December 6 th at 10am. Thanks to the many traveling Hawks supporters who traveled up to Sacramento to support the team today. November 28, 2009 Hawks Bound for Final Four Stacey Cervantes scored the game winning goal. Orange, CA - Another convincing display by the Hawks led to a convincing 1-0 win over a previously unbeaten Moorpark Raiders team. The Western State Conference North Champions were determined opposition and their resolute defensive line held strong despite constant Hawks pressure. The game winner came ten minutes in to the second period when Stacey Cervantes converted a Michelle Carels corner. The Hawks looked composed under pressure defensively, and goal-keeper Cassie Becker recorded the shut-out with out having to make a save. The Hawks now move on to their 3 rd Final Four appearance in the last 4 years to be held at Cosumnes River College in Elk Grove, south of Sacramento. Thank you to all the Hawks following who turned out in numbers again today.

November 24, 2009 Hawks Defeat 2008 State Champions Kaylee Schneekluth scored the lone goal of the game. Orange, CA - The two year State Championship reign of Cerritos College Falcons in Women s Soccer ended with defeat to Santiago Canyon College in another impressive display for the home team. The talented Falcons never really got in to gear, as the Hawks defense dominated from first to last, and created a great platform from which to attack. Going forward, Jessica Brilliantes, Bri Lopez and Brooke McCaughin all went close. But it was Kaylee Schneekluth who scored the only goal, driving the ball across the keeper and in to the side netting, mid-way through the second half. The Falcons pushed numbers forward, but never really troubled the Hawks who continued to push for the second goal to seal the win. The Hawks now play for a place in the State Final 4 at home to Moorpark College on Saturday, November 28 th at 2pm. Thanks to all the support, including Santiago Canyon College students, sports teams, faculty and staff, that came out to cheer on the Hawks today. November 10, 2009 Hawks Win at Cypress Cypress, CA - In a typically competitive Hawks versus Chargers encounter, Santiago Canyon won 2-1 with goals from Michelle Carels and Leslie Bryant despite not quite playing at their best. It was the usual high tempo start. Cypress struck a post in the opening minute. The Hawks responded and minutes later Jacqueline Turner crossed for Carels to head the first goal. In the last meeting between the two teams, two penalties helped put Cypress on the board and today it was the same. A controversial penalty decision allowed Cypress to tie the game up from the spot ten minutes before half, and the teams headed in to the interval even. After the break the Hawks absorbed some Charger pressure with Hawks Keeper Cassie Becker rarely called in to action, but making one fine save from long range. With ten minutes remaining, Evelyn Gomez was fouled in the area after good work from Jessica Brillantes. Bryant stepped up to score from the spot. Brillantes then went close with a header that would have made it 3-1. The Hawks played out the remaining minutes for the win. The Hawks play their final Orange Empire Conference game of the season against

November 3, 2009 Hawks Win at Golden West Sophomore, Evelyn Gomez scored two goals against Golden West. The Hawks were quickly back on track against a hardworking Golden West team after a disappointing performance on Friday. Stacey Cervantes opened the scoring after

just 6 minutes and the second from Bri Lopez followed 5 minutes later, both goals assisted by Michelle Carels. Jessica Brillantes scored the third after good work from Brooke McCaughin. October 30, 2009 Hawks 2, Santa Ana 1 Orange, CA - The ghouls and goblins of Halloween seemed to distract the Hawks in a disjointed performance against a determined Santa Ana team. The Hawks dominated the contest from beginning to end, but failed to produce the quality they expect of themselves in all areas of the field. A goal by Amanda Hardeman, as she followed in to score from close range separated the teams at half-time. The team failed to connect on a glut of chances in the second period before Jessica Brillantes headed the second assisted by Stacey Cervantes. In the late stages of the game, a Santa Ana shot from wide made the score 2-1 but the Hawks were never real under any threat of conceding further. SCC plays next away at Golden West College on Tuesday, November 3 rd at 6pm.

October 23, 2009 Hawks Avenge 1st Round Tie Fullerton, CA After a scoreless first half, three second-half goals were the difference between the two teams. The breakthrough came when Jacqueline Turner worked herself down the right side and played a ball to Amanda Hardeman for the finish. Shortly after the first goal, Stacey Cervantes played a ball to Evelyn Gomez, who rode a tackle and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The third goal came minutes before the final whistle. Jessica Brillantes found Jessica Olsen, who headed the ball into the far corner to seal the victory. Behind the SCC defense, Cassie Becker was never really threatened and recorded the shut-out. The Hawks next host Santa Ana College on Friday, October 30 th at 3pm. Brillantes converted a Michelle Carels corner for the opening goal with five minutes gone. Three minutes later Brillantes turned provider. A cross-field ball found Lopez who struck the

ball back across the keeper for the second. The Hawks had to wait until the 35 th minute to add to their tally, with Cervantes slotting the ball underneath the advancing keeper after a ball in from Amanda Hardeman. Coast improved after the break, but never really mounted a serious threat, as the Hawks defense and Cassie Becker in goal earned the shut-out. Freshman goalkeeer, Cassie Becker organizes her defense. Despite out-shooting the Tigers 16-2, the Hawks took until the 73 rd minute to break the deadlock. Stacey Cervantes found Bri Lopez down the right-hand side. Lopez raced beyond her defender and then was brought down in the box. Leslie Bryant stepped up to convert the penalty kick. The Hawks back-line of Jacqueline Hanna, Jacqueline Turner, Kaylee Schneekluth and Bryant held strong through-out to protect Keeper Cassie Becker who claimed the shut-out. The Hawks play next at home to Saddleback College at 6pm on Friday, October 16 th. October 9, 2009 Hawks Win at Home Sophomore, Leslie Bryant scored the game-winning goal. The Hawks doubled the lead in the 31 st minute when Hardeman steered a header across the keeper from a Bryant free kick. The

Chargers got on the board with a penalty 2 minutes before half-time. Four minutes in to the second period Bryant scored direct from a 30 yard free-kick to put the Hawks up 3-1. An improved Santa Ana Dons team came in to the contest with a 6-2 record. The Hawks however dominated from the beginning and opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Jacqueline Turner returned a deep cross for McCaughin at the top of the box and her first time left-footed strike broke the deadlock. The second came after good work from Miriam Reyes who set up McCaughin to drive home from outside the area.

A corner two minutes in to the second half resulted in the third as Michelle Carels opened her goal-scoring account for the season. Bri Lopez followed in a Jessica Olsen shot ten minutes from time to wrap up the points. Marissa Ghani and Maegan Duncan combined for the shut-out in the 4-0 win. The Hawks play next at home on Friday, October 2nd against Golden West College at 3pm. September 22, 2009 Hawks Tie at Home Orange, CA - The Hawks failed to win in their league home opener against a committed Fullerton Hornets team. Despite out-shooting the opposition 20-4, SCC could not find a way to turn their chances in to goals, and were forced to share the points. Sophomore, Jessica Brillantes scroed the second goal against Fullerton. After absorbing SCC s early pressure, Fullerton opened the scoring with their first chance of the game. SCC responded with a goal from Stacey Cervantes who followed in to tie the score 1-1. Jessica Brillantes then gave the Hawks the lead as she converted a Kaylee Schneekluth cross to put the Hawks 2-1 up at half-time. The Hawks again dominated the second period, but could not clear a goal-mouth scramble, and Fullerton tied it up 2-2. Late pressure from SCC did not break the Hornets. The Hawks have a week to prepare for their next contest away at district rival Santa Ana College at 1pm on Tuesday, September 29 th.

September 18, 2009 Hawks Win at Coast Costa Mesa, CA - Goals from Mo Silva and Evelyn Gomez were enough for the Hawks to earn a 2-1 win at Orange Coast College. The Hawks early pressure, against an improved Pirates team, went unrewarded until Silva broke the deadlock mid-way through the first half. Karly Weeks took the return ball from Jessica Brillantes and crossed for Silva who slotted the ball past the keeper left-footed from 12 yards. The Pirates responded and tied it up around the half-hour mark. A shot from distance was tipped on to the cross bar by Hawks keeper Marissa Ghani, then rebounded back off her in to the goal to make it 1-1. The Hawks continued to press in the second period in search of the second goal. Good work from Miriam Reyes slipped Evelyn Gomez in beyond the Coast back line and she slid the ball across the keeper and in to the goal. As SCC looked for a third goal, the Hawks defense held firm to the final whistle. Cassie Becker recorded the second half shut-out. Jessica Brillantes scored the only goal in the 6th minute, beating one defender before driving the ball across the keeper in to the side netting. The game was an even, physical contest in which both teams struggled to find

a rhythm. The Hawks consolidated further at the break and had a second-half goal controversially called back for offside. The Pirates continued to look threatening from setpieces but some assertive defending, and solid goal-keeping held them at bay to preserve the shut-out. The Hawks open Conference play on the road at Rancho Capistrano against Saddleback College on Tuesday, September 15th for a 3pm kick-off. Thanks to all those who attended the game this evening. Jacqueline Hanna then headed the second goal from a Brooke McCaughin corner to extend the lead minutes before the half-time break.
