Under 17 s The Bucks travelled to Abbey Hey Youth FC in their first NWYA game on the road and won comfortably 5-1. They then travelled to Salford City FC for a midweek game and played out a 0-0 draw. The next game saw the Bucks welcome Irlam FC to Thornton's PlayFootball and they suffered their first defeat of the campaign; going down narrowly to a 1-2 defeat. The Bucks then travelled to Hyde Egerton near Knutsford and were on the wrong end of a seven goal thriller; going down to a 4-3 defeat. In dreadful playing conditions for both teams, the Bucks were unable to get their fluent passing game going on a fabulous, beautiful playing surface. After the previous week's narrow defeat at home to Irlam FC, the Bucks were keen to get back to winning ways and travelled down the M6 to take on Hyde Egerton Academy FC It wasn t to be though, as the home side ran out 4-3 winners. 4 The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road. They were in fact Everton FC s biggest rivals. In Bootle became founder members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing out on the football league to the blues. That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the campaign. In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it s It s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25

Stockport Sports the Saxons have secured sponsorship for a new tunnel from the dressing rooms to the pitch at the Sports Village, which will be in place shortly. Irlam visitors to Silver Street will notice that there is now additional covered terracing next to the seated stand area. The work was completed in time for the visit of Runcorn Linnets in the FA Vase last Saturday. Atherton Collieries club Secretary Emil Anderson has long been known for his acerbic wit and observations on the comings and goings around the NWCFL, and his musings are now being circulated to a deservedly wider audience. Emil is now writing a regular weekly column on Non-League football in the Bolton News, and we will be featuring some of Emil s articles on the League website in the coming weeks. Ashton Town - Town have announced the signing of former Runcorn Town midfielder Tyson Eyo. He was a regular at the Pavilions last season, and has previously played for Welsh Champions TNS and fellow NWCFL side Nelson, as well as having a two year spell in the USA. He is unavailable for this weekend's fixture but will be available for selection when 1874 Northwich visit Ashton a week on Saturday. League Landmarks Wednesday 11th September 2013 AFC Liverpool's 3-0 win over St Helens Town took the Reds past 300 league points. Saturday 14th September 2013 Abbey Hey recorded two landmarks in their 3-1 win at Alsager Town. It was Abbey's 100th away League win and their opening goal, scored by Richard Chetcuti in 54th minute, was the club's 900th league goal. 7

Worksop Town Early History Although the first recorded items referring to its existence date from 1873, the club itself proclaims that its founding year was The team originally played on a pitch in the Netherton Road area of Worksop before moving to Central Avenue in 1891, the club's home for almost the next 100 years. For much of their early existence Worksop Town played in the Midland League. Two notable FA Cup runs occurred during this period. In the season, the club reached the First Round Proper (the equivalent of the modern day competition's Third Round), and were drawn away against Chelsea. Although losing 9 1, the game drew an attendance of 70,184, a club record which still stands today. Another cup run occurred during the season, with Worksop becoming one of the famous FA Cup minnows by holding Tottenham Hotspur to a 0 0 draw at the Division One side s White Hart Lane ground. The replay was controversially held at White Hart Lane for financial reasons, and saw Worksop lose 9 0. Supporters who had expected the replay to take place at Central Avenue showed their disappointment by staying away from subsequent home matches, an action that for a time saw the club s debts mount. In the mid 1960s Worksop won the Midland League and became founder members of the Northern Premier League. After one season the club were relegated back to the Midland League. By the late 1970s they had gained re-entry into the Northern Premier League. Around this time, Worksop had another relatively successful FA Cup run, reaching the First Round during the season, losing 5 1 away to Barnsley. NEXT UP AT HOME FOR THE BUCKS ST HELENS TOWN TUESDAY 24TH September pm ko SQUIRES GATE SATURDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER PM KO WIGAN ROBIN PARK SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER PM KO Recent History The season saw Worksop once again relegated, this time to the newly formed Northern Premier League Division One. In the same season the club also lost their Central Avenue ground, and were forced to ground-share 20 miles away at local rivals Gainsborough Trinity. The club returned to Worksop three seasons later, moving to Sandy Lane in The 1990s proved to be a better decade for the club after winning promotion to the Northern Premier Division at the end of the season, Worksop were runners-up in that division the following season. To date, this has been the club's best ever finish within the National League System. The following few years brought continued top ten finishes, whilst the club was boosted by having former England international Chris Waddle in the team for three seasons, playing 60 games until leaving at the age of 42. In September 2001, property developer Howard Raymond, son of adult entertainment entrepreneur Paul Raymond, became the club's financial backer, revealing plans to develop the Sandy Lane ground to Football League standard.

For the start of the season, Worksop became founder members of the Conference North, created as part of Phase One of the restructuring of non-league English football. The latter half of that season saw the club hit financial difficulties, including a 60,000 debt to Bassetlaw Council. Raymond formed a new company, 1861 Leisure Limited, to take over the club and its assets. As a result, the club were deducted 10 points, transforming the team's season from a credible promotion challenge to a relegation battle. The club eventually finished 17th in their first season of Conference North football. The season saw the team further struggle, finishing 19th in the division, despite an impressive FA Trophy run which saw them beat Conference National sides Burton Albion and Accrington Stanley. Tigers In Exile 21st place in signalled relegation for Worksop, and with it a return to the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Raymond disengaged from the football side of club business, but retained ownership of 1861 Leisure, and therefore the club's ground and assets. In February 2008, the club itself was severed from the holding company, effectively becoming tenants at Sandy Lane, and in April 2008, club officials were locked out of the ground. No reasons have been given for this action. The club played its home fixtures in at Watnall Road in Hucknall, finishing 17th in the Premier Division. The Tigers fared no better the following season after moving to Ilkeston Town's New Manor Ground, finishing 18th. The club avoided relegation to the Northern Premier League First Division by virtue of the demise of Newcastle Blue Star and King's Lynn, reducing the relegation places from three teams to one. In the summer of 2010, Jason Clark, the Managing Director of the internet storage company B2Net, took over the club and became chairman. After initial talks with Howard Raymond about a possible return to Sandy Lane, the club agreed with Retford United to groundshare at their Cannon Park ground for two seasons. The preparations for the new season also saw some much needed investment in the playing staff. Stadium The club were based at Sandy Lane, but in May 2008 were forced to relocate to Hucknall Town's Watnall Road ground. This agreement ended in May 2009 and a new agreement was reached with Ilkeston Town. During May 2010, it was announced that for the and seasons, they would be playing at Retford United's Cannon Park ground. However, after completing work on their original home, they will begin to play in Worksop again in the season. This late change of position regarding the then disused Sandy Lane site was because the manager of former works team, Parramore FC, Peter Whitehead managed to buy the ground from its owners, who had been newly elected to The Northern Counties East league and required a suitable ground (a proviso of joining the NCE league). Mr Whitehead "allowed"/"leased" (I know not which) Town to return the ground NPL standard, so that they would be able to play in the town again. 20

Merseyrail Bootle Ladies FC flew out of the traps in their first game of the season against Tranmere Rovers Ladies reserves at the Delta Taxis Stadium. The home side started the game with incredible energy and determination which paid with three goals before half time from Emily Swindells, Rachel Atherton and Leanne Cunningham, giving the home team a comfortable 3-1 half time lead. The second half was a much closer affair, but with another goal from Emily Swindells and one for Siobhan Cliff it ensured a stunning 5-4 victory for the home side. The player of the match was Chelsea Penny who bossed the midfield and had an outstanding game in the middle of the park. The starting eleven: Kathryn Bradley, Lauren Williams, Devon Riley, Danielle Riley, Sami Fretwell, Tessa Litler, Chelsea Penny, Leanne Cunningham, Rachel Atherton, Siobhan Cliff, Emily Swindells. 12 Saturday s Match Report Bootle bounced back from a goal conceded just after half time to earn a well deserved draw away to Worksop Town. It was an impressive result against a team from the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, two leagues higher than the Bucks. The game started at a frenetic pace with both sides testing the others resolve, but by the midway point in the half a more defined pattern of play developed, with Worksop working in to their front man and then wide to deliver the cross for 6' 7" striker Tom Denton. Bootle, on the other hand, were playing more penetrating passes into channels, with the impressive Sean Miller causing the Worksop full backs problems. An even first half saw the sides tied 0-0 at the break with both teams failing to establish a firm grip on the game, but the early stages of the second half saw Worksop enjoy their best spell of the game and they took the lead four minutes after the restart. A corner on the left from Josh Davies was fired deep into the penalty area and Tom Denton beat the back tracking Bootle keeper Porter to head home the opener for Worksop. Five minutes later great move involving Denton and Mettam sent Muldoon through on goal, but his shot was well saved by Porter. But from that point on, the Bootle revival began and just after the hour Tom Peterson came close with a half volley on the turn that flew just over the bar. Four minutes later the Worksop goal survived a goalmouth scramble, and shortly afterwards a cross from the right was palmed away by Hallam in the Worksop goal and the ball fell to Jay Riley whose shot hit the post with the keeper beaten. The introduction of the returning player-manager Neil Prince just intensified the Bucks pressure and with 12 minutes remaining Prince hit a left foot drive just wide of Hallam's right hand post. But in the end Bootle constant pressure on the home defence finally produced a reward, and with three minutes to go they got the equaliser they deserved. Worksop's Kern Miller was penalised for handball in the box, and Sean Miller stepped up to send keeper Hallam the wrong way and despatch the spot kick into the bottom left hand corner. The last few minutes involved more Bootle pressure and player-manager Prince almost grabbed a dramatic winner but his left foot curler smacked the crossbar and the ball was scrambled clear. Player-manager Prince said afterwards: "I was delighted with the application of the players and we are all looking forward to the replay at the Delta Taxis Stadium on Tuesday night"

Bootle Reserves 3 Stalybridge Celtic Reserves 2 by richie boswarva Wonder Goal from McCabe Sinks Galaxy West Lancashire League Leaders Stalybridge Bootle Reserves put in a great performance last night at a very wet Delta Taxis Stadium to inflict a first defeat on League Leaders Stalybridge Celtic. With the emphasis again on Youth, Bootle's young side battled back from a goal down to go 3-1 in front, with the away side scoring a late consolation from a free kick. Jack McCabe scored the equaliser after 30 minutes, turning sharply in the box to fire home into the top corner. James King scored with a looping header from 12 yards midway through the 2nd period and Jack McCabe capped a fantastic display by scoring a quite remarkable goal. Seizing on a loose ball on the halfway line McCabe took 2 steps forward and unleashed a terrific strike which left the Stalybridge keeper rooted to the spot. This was an effective team performance with Pruden and Milburn outstanding and McCabe back to his match winning best. The Bucks continued their winning ways on Saturday as they brushed aside Upton in the West Cheshire League by three goals to nil. 16
