WELCOME Good evening and welcome to the ASM Stadium for this Evo-Stik League South Division One Central match between Thame United and North Leigh. A warm welcome to all the Directors, Players and Supporters of North Leighand we wish them an enjoyable stay and a safe, if short, journey home. It was good to finally get the season underway on Saturday after what felt like the longest ever pre-season. Over that period the management team have been working hard to bring in new players that, combined with the retention of the majority of the squad from last season, has created more competition within the squad as well as a greater depth. That, perhaps, was apparent at Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday when the win was as comfortable as it was impressive. That is not to belittle our opponents, we simply did not allow them to play and that, taken with our positional discipline, ensured that we were able to take the most of the opportunities when they became available whilst limiting the chances that our hosts were able to create. The only disappointment for me was the pitch. The game was played on a 3G surface that, we understand, is now in its 9 th year and it showed as close ball control was very difficult with the bounce both uneven and exaggerated, a throw-back it felt to the old plastic pitches at QPR and Luton Town. Today we welcome a North Leigh side who we have not faced in a competitive league fixture since the season, albeit we have since met twice in the FA Cup. On both occasions they were days to forget as we fell 6-0 at North Leigh in the season, before a 7-1 defeat at home in the title winning season of North Leigh come in to the season having undergone significant change in personnel, but opened the campaign with an impressive 3-1 win against Dunstable Town. There are a couple of familiar names in the North Leigh squad with both Martin Griggs and Brad Chalmers having had fleeting spells with United in the past. After today we welcome Berkhamsted to the ASM Stadium on Saturday for an FA Cup tie, 3pm kick off. Berkhamsted have already enjoyed success in the competition this seaosn having defeated Tring Athletic (2-0) and we have had them watched twice this season so know it will be another competitive match. After that, on Bank Holiday Monday, we make the trip to Chesham to face our former tenants, Aylesbury United. Kick off at The Meadow is 3pm. You will see elsewhere in the programme that we are running a new Player Sponsorship system this season so if you are interested in sponsoring a player, please get in touch. Finally, thanks to Geordie for his fantastic work on the pitch in the close season. Jake Collinge (Chairman)
FROM THE DUG OUT We celebrated the win because that s what football is all about, that s done now and we are totally focussed on tonight s game. There are no easy games in this division, it s tougher than last season after the restructuring in the summer. Good Evening, Tonight we welcome Darren James and Craig Dore together with the management team, player s and staff from North Leigh for this Southern League fixture and our first home game of the new season. Preseason has seemed to go on forever this year but finally on Saturday the real action started! It was a tough fixture away from home at Sutton Coldfield Town who had been relegated from the Northern Premier Division. They had some impressive performances preseason so we went knowing it was going to be a tough start. So to come away with 3 points and a 4-1 win was fantastic and the buzz on the bus on the way home is what it s all about. I said to the players after the game not to get carried away its only 3 points and there will be many ups and downs over the next 8 months. We have strengthened the squad and kept the majority of last season as well so we have competition for places, something that we have missed at times. They boys have worked hard over the summer and whilst I don t think we are quite there yet we are not too far away. Dan West is still recovering from an injection and I think he is probably another 4-6 weeks away. We come into tonight s game with a full squad looking to build on Saturday s performance. On Saturday we are at home again in the FA Cup against Berkhamstead Town. A special mention must go to the club and all those that work behind the scenes getting everything ready for this season. There has been significant investment on pitch maintenance, Geordie has done a fantastic job getting it ready for us. Now it is down to us to make sure we perform! Thanks for your continued support. See you in the bar!

THAME UNITED HISTORY the Club again reached the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and finished the season 11th in the league. Mark West left to join Slough Town and defender Tony Joyce was appointed player /manager. Thame United were formed in 1883 making it one of Oxfordshires' oldest clubs. The early years were spent in various Oxfordshire Leagues and in 1906, 1909 and 1910 Thame won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup and the Senior League in 1907,1908, 1910, 1930 and A switch to the Hellenic League then brought further success culminating in the Hellenic League title in and , as well as being runners up in , and The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was won in both 1976 and 1981 but a poor spell in the mid eighties preceded a crossing of the pyramid in to join the South Midlands League. The Club finished runners up in both and before eventually winning the title in Thame received the green light to join the Diadora League in 1991/ saw the Club win the Division 2 Championship with 93 points - an 11 point margin. In 1995/96 the Club reached the 3rd Round Qualifying in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. In the league we finished a creditable 13th in our first ever season in the Isthmian League Division One. Andy Sinnott was appointed first team manager in June 1997 and, with a dramatically reduced operating budget, the side were relegated into Ryman Division Two. The Club bounced straight back into Ryman Division One and reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase. 1999/2000 saw the Club come within two points of achieving promotion to the Premier Division. 2000/2001 season the team lead the way for most of the season, putting together a club record of 12 consecutive league wins but a slump in form in the latter part of the season resulted in a 5th place finish. A mid-table finish followed in 2001/2002 season but the Oxfordshire Senior Cup was retained. Mark West was appointed player/ manager when Andy left United during the Summer of In October 2003 the Club reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in its history, before being beaten 1-2 by Conference side Farnborough Town. After a mid-table finish the Club moved to the newly formed Southern League, Division 1 West. In October 2004 By July 2005 the Club were in financial trouble and, following a visit from Bailiffs acting on behalf of HMRC, the landlord enforced a clause in the tenancy agreement and evicted the club from Windmill Road. However, shortly thereafter Thame United reached a formal agreement with the new owners of Windmill Road that secured 1.7 million to enable a new facility to be constructed in the town and, after several options had been explored and found to be available, settled on Church Farm on the northern edge of the town. Whilst the Club progressed procurement of the new site, and the necessary planning permission, a ground share agreement was reached with neighbours Aylesbury United and, with the side struggling at the foot of the Southern League Division 1 West, Tony Joyce resigned in December 2005, with a new joint managerial partnership of Richard Searl and Alan Thorne appointed. Relegation to the Hellenic League was confirmed later in the season. A ground share agreement was reached with AFC Wallingford for the 2006/07 season. Mark West returned to the Club mid-way through the season but could not save the Club from relegation to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The 2007/08 season provided greater stability for the Club, with Mark West and new assistant, Frank Thompson, looking after first team affairs. A mid-table finish resulted, which was followed by a ninth placed finish in 2008/ /10 saw the Club win the Division 1 East title by six points and reclaim their place in the Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was the most significant in the Club s recent history. With work on a new 3.1m ground at Meadow View Park commencing in March 2010, United returned to Thame at the ASM Stadium on 11 December 2010, just over five years after their enforced eviction from the town. Boasting eight pitches, a floodlit 3G training pitch and 8000sqft clubhouse, United now have one of the best sporting facilities in the County. The official opening against Oxford United on 18th January 2011 set a record crowd of 1,382. Season was one of the most successful in the recent history of the Club. Going the whole league season without losing at home, United were crowned Hellenic League Premier Division Champions on the final day of the season, defeating Henley Town 9-0 to over-turn a seven goal deficit. United were duly promoted to the Evo-Stick Southern Football League, returning after a spell of twelve years away. The first season ended with a comfortable mid-table finish, with Dan West securing the Golden Boot award.

NORTH LEIGH FC HISTORY North Leigh were formed in 1908, but it was only following the Second World War that the club started to make its mark in the Witney and District League. The club won the Witney and District League Premier Division title seven times in the 1950s and also enjoyed success in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup. In the 1980s the club resumed its trophy winning habits with five successive Witney and District League titles earning it a place in the Hellenic League Division 1 for the season 1990/91. The club enjoyed a good first season in the Hellenic League, finishing in 4th position and being the Division s highest goal scorers apart from Champions Cinderford Town. In the club s second season it again achieved 4th position, averaging two points per game, scoring 84 goals in the process. In the third season, the club finished runners up to Tuffley Rovers in Division 1 and so took its place in the Hellenic League Premier Division along with the champions. In 1997/98 the club reached the second round of the FA Vase for the third time before losing to Elmore. They finished the season in 4th place in the Hellenic League Premier Division, and capped their season off by reaching the final of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup where they were only narrowly beaten by their West Oxfordshire rivals Witney Town 1-0 after extra time. The season 2001/02 was without doubt the most successful in the club s history to date. After a superb season of consistently high performances and an epic struggle with both Gloucester United and Yate Town throughout the season to occupy top spot, the club eventually succeeded in winning for the very first time, the Premier Division title. The club also reached the final of both the Oxfordshire Senior Cup and the Hellenic League Challenge Cup. In season 2002/03 the club went one better and with a smaller squad than the previous year and arguably stronger league opposition, retained the title with a winning margin of 10 points over Yate Town (the team pipped the previous year) and local rivals Carterton. Unfortunately the ground at that stage was not up to the required standard for the team to take promotion to the next level. In season 2003/04 a disappointing eighth place in the league was offset by a tremendous run in the FA Vase where the club reached the last 32 and with reasonable luck would have progressed further. In 2004/05 the club finished in seventh place in the league, but the highlight was a truly memorable run in the FA Cup as the last Hellenic team left in the competition defeating Deal Town, Walton Casuals and Edgware Town and only losing out to Conference South outfit Newport County in Wales after holding them to a draw at Eynsham Park. In season 2005/06 after an excellent start and leading the table during the early part of the season, the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern League finishing in fourth place after a disappointing late run. In season 2006/07 after a head to head contest with Slimbridge and narrowly finishing behind them after an epic struggle and a particularly strong finish to the season, including a double win home & away against them, the club were severely disappointed to learn of their withdrawal from promotion to the Southern League at a stage too late for them to be replaced them even though North Leigh s home ground had by now received the necessary FA approval to play at the higher level. In season 2007/08 in the club s centenary year it looked to be a mirror image of the previous year with the team vying for the top spot throughout the season and just losing out in the final push for promotion. However in a truly magnificent finish to the season the team overhauled the long term leaders of the division, Almondsbury Town in their very last league game, winning the league title and promotion on goal difference. In addition and a few weeks prior to winning the league title, the club had won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup for the first time in their history defeating an Oxford United team in the quarter final and Banbury United (Southern League Premier Division) in the final at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford. So the club climbed to its highest ever position in the non league pyramid by joining the Southern League South and West in August 2008 and during its membership over the past nine years has been a model of consistency finishing in a top ten position every season. Major changes occurred in 2016 with the departure of long serving Manager Mark Gee and the appointment of John Brough who had just won the league with Cinderford Town.John had a successful first season steering the club to its best ever FA Cup and Trophy run, a third County Cup triumph and just missed out on a play off place in the league and so we look forward to the future with a play off place and promotion as our key objective.
NORTH LEIGH FC SQUAD Management---Joint Manager: Darren James - Played for Oxford Utd and Oxford City, however Injuries cut his career short. Darren has been coaching at Oxford City for the past 3 seasons with the 18s Joint Manager--- Craig Dore Also played for Oxford Utd and Oxford City along with spells at Cardiff and Worcester City. Coached alongside Darren with oxford city for the past 3 seasons before joining the Millers 1st Team Coach: Rob Tutton Another to play locally for Both Oxford City and United. Rob Managed The Oxford City Nomads last season and has been a coach with City for 11 years prior to this season Luke Sanders - The fantastic shot stopper joins us along with many others from Oxford City to guard the sticks this season. Already showed his ability in pre-season but have stiff competition for the no.1 shirt Jack Brooker - Also looking to show his worth with the Millers this year is ex-risborough Rangers keeper Jack Brooker. Although playing out from the back is a key area for improvement, what he lacks in build-up play is more than made up for in his acrobatic ability Ben Brown (C) - Re-joining the club after leaving in the 2013/14 season, Ben will be coming back with a lot more responsibility as the first team captain. Solid at the back and calm under pressure, his experience will prove invaluable for the young team when times get tough. Declan Peart - Played last season with Oxford City Nomads in the Hellenic Premier. Very composed on the ball always looks like he s in space and is very quick for a big lad. Great passer of the ball and makes the game look easy Andy Caton - After a six-year stint at Eynsham Park ended in 2015 with a move to upcoming FA Cup opponents Hanwell Town, the 30-year-old now comes back to see a whole new management structure. His playing career has included a youth spell at Southampton, Swindon Town, Oxford City and the great Windmill Army. Dan Newman - Joining the new captain at centre-back is Dan Newman. Hailing from Chipping Norton, this ex-oxford City player may not have a lot of miles on the clock at only 20- years-old but his confidence in his ability fused with youthful enthusiasm makes for a very combative defender. He also loves a good tackle. Jordi Mulvany - Another nomad player last season. Great in the air and strong in the tackle, Jordi has great vision and loves a clinical pass, a great leader on the pitch and surely a future Captain. Nathan Simms - Filling the left back position in our defence, Nathan is one of a number of competent players who were part of the Oxford City Nomads last year. Confident on the ball, Nathan hasn t put a foot wrong in pre-season and despite his young age, his decision making is that of a seasoned professional. Brad Chalmers - One of the few players to remain at Eynsham Park under the new management team, Brad showed his quality and willingness last season when he was called upon to move from the reserve team to the first team and played very well to help keep the Millers out of a relegation battle. Alfie Saunders - Still young but one of the more experienced in the squad, Alfie has played at this level for a few seasons now. Great with both feet and has a thunderous strike on him, spent last season played for North Leigh Utd. Versatile Dec Sheppard - Another player to carry on last season also great performances in the middle of the park. Tall and powerful, Dec is talented with controlling the midfield play and doesn t mind the occasional shot from outside the box.. Eddie Stevens - In control of the centre of the park, Eddie has learned a lot from his time at Swindon Town. He is a natural playmaker and brilliant at finding that crucial through ball. With a great work rate and commitment for the team, he is another of the key men for North Leigh this season. Jack Tutton - Son of new Coach Rob Tutton, Jack is another of the Oxford City starlets. The teenager isn t afraid to get a little rough in the midfield battle and when the going gets tough, he isn t going anywhere. With a gifted first touch, he too can make a killer pass. Jacob Hughes - Young, enthusiastic, talented. Jacob is another of the speedy wingers at themanagers disposal. He is exciting to watch and always looking to make the difference. The ex Oxford United youth player, he is no stranger to the demanding intensity of non league football and could be one of the stand out players for North Leigh this year. Noah Alabi - Joining the new Managers coming over from Oxford City Youth, Noah was part of a league and cup winning season last year and has already impressed a lot of people in pre-season. A very sought after player, this skillful youngster will cause havoc on the wings for anyone that underestimates him. Will McEachran - Impressing on his pre-season debut earning the Manager s man of the match, Willcomes from a big family of footballing talent and it is evident that a lot has rubbed off on him. Natural ability at shutting down attacks and doesn t give away possession. Zak Oliver Spent last season between the Clanfield U18s and the First Team. Possesses great pace down the flanks with a keen eye for goal. Was on trial the end of last season with Dagenham and Redbridge after impressing with Clanfield in The FA Cup Rory Linford-Pill - Rory played alongside Jacob (Hughes) throughout his youth years with Mid-Oxon and the county. Last season for the Holybush who dominated the local league. Strong in the tackle, good in the air and again loves to pass the ball. Holding Midfielder Frankie Cato - Another who has come over from Clanfield 18s. Frankie also played for North Leigh Utd last season. Strong midfielder player who loves the ball at his feet, can find a pass from nothing and can open the pitch up with ease Roger James - Originally brought up through the youth ranks, North Leigh fans will know of Roger well. The dangerous winger can turn on a sixpence and his pace and sheer determination makes him almost unbeatable 1-on-1 and one hell of a crosser of the ball. George Seacole - Adored fan favourite, George has 52 goals in the previous two years at North Leigh. If he can avoid another injury hit campaign then he will surely be a force to be reckoned with and a key component if we are to succeed in competing in the top half of the table. Martin Griggs - Another of the Risborough Rangers class of 2018, Martin has a goalscoring record longer than the Golden Gate Bridge. Lethal from anywhere within 30 yards and able to shoot off of either foot, Griggsy is more than likely to be a contender for North Leigh s golden boot winner this year. Henry Landers - Another of the Oxford City Youth double from last year, Henry joins teammate Noah at Eynsham Park. He scored over 65 goals in just 50 games for that team. His eye for goal and and attack minded presence has already bagged him 2 from 2 in pre-season friendlies. Daryl Harris - Played for North Leigh Utd last season. Fitness with this young man is the key - Never stops running. Plays on shoulders and has a thunderbolt of a strike, Links play well and has a fantastic attitude. Also longest in the shower.

MATCH REPORT Saturday 18 August 2018 Sutton Coldfield 1 Thame United 4 Brown 82 OG 13, Gledhill 74, Tack 87, Martin 88 Attendance: 122 Evo-Stik League South Division One Central The last time Thame United left Coles Lane it was on the back of an 8-0 drubbing some 13 years ago. This time the tables were turned as United opened the league campaign with a 4-1 win. United opened with a formation and were immediately on the front foot with, in the second minute, an effort from captain Ben Sturgess from 12 yards coming back off the woodwork. The home side enjoyed their own spell of possession, forcing a couple of corners, before the opening goal for United arrived on 13 minutes. A cross field ball found Liam Tack on the wide right who drilled a low cross in to the box that the home defender could do no more than direct in to the bottom corner of the goal, giving Gwillam in the home goal no chance. Craig Hill in the Thame goal was then forced in to action, saving an overhead kick, before Tack went close on 23 minutes with an effort that cleared the bar. Tack had another opportunity three minutes later when, after good approach play, he saw an acrobatic effort go wide. For the remainder of the half both sides continued to press but with no meaningful goalmouth action. The second half opened with the home side pressing and, in the early stages, Hill had to be alert as a shot went just wide. United thought they had secured a penalty on 48 minutes when Tack was felled in the box, but the referee waved away the penalty claims before, on 53 minutes, a Tack free kick from 20 yards was well saved by Gwillam. On 65 minutes the home side were reduced to ten men when Stephen Palmer was shown a straight red for an elbow to the face of Mealing, who left play shortly afterwards to be replaced by Andy Gledhill. And it did not take long for Gledhill to get on the score sheet when, on 74 minutes, he blocked an attempted clearance on the edge of the box with the ball ricocheting wide of Gwillam and in to the far corner. With a 2-0 lead against ten men and with only 15 minutes remaining, United were looking to see out the game but they could have extended the lead when first Jamie Essex headed over and the Duran Martin saw Gwillam push a low shot wide of the post. Then, with 8 minutes remaining, the home side pulled a goal back when a low corner in to the box was swept home by Leo Brown from 8 yards. As the home side pressed forward in search of an equaliser, it was United who went on to extend their lead when, on 87 minutes, Tack again found space on the right and this time he finished low in to the far corner from an acute angle. United still had time for a fourth when good passing down the right lead to a ball through to Duran Martin who finished confidently from 8 yards.
