1 CREWKERNE RANGERS FC WELCOME YOU TO HENHAYES 17/18 Programme Issue 7 vs FIRST TEAM vs SOMERDALE WANDERERS Saturday 18 November, 1:45pm Kick Off SOMERSET INTERMEDIATE CUP - ROUND 3 PROUDLY SPONSORED BY Charter Standard Adult and Youth Club
2 CRFC MATCH REPORTS Firsts vs Chard United Reserves Saturday 28th October FT: 5-0 By Josh Lovatt, Manager Our best footballing performance of the season so far, Mike Traynor opened the scoring early on in the first half, this was shortly followed by a good team goal which George Tuck finished well with his left foot from the edge of the area,. Si Denslow then scored a well taken individual effort to make it 3-0 half time. The 4th goal was the crucial one in my opinion - had they got it, could of been a closer game but George Tuck got it for us with a good header at the back post. Si added his second to make it 5-0 which was the icing on the cake! Reserves vs Merriott Dynamos Saturday 28th October FT: 1-3 By Scott Isaacs, Manager We lost 3-1 away to Merriott Dynamos but a draw would of been a fair result really. We went one down early on and Steve Bryant also hit the post with a penalty. Then about half an hour in we drew level after Scott Isaacs equalised from a good cross from Mike Calverley. So 1-1 half time. They scored their second goal with 20 minutes to go. Just after that our keeper Matt Clarke got sent off for handling the ball outside the area and they scored a third just before the final whistle past stand in keeper Andy Loveless. Colts vs Milborne Port A Saturday 4th November FT: 1-1 By Lee Gillman, Manager A draw was a fair result at the weekend. Milborne Port were the better side in the first half taking a 1-0 lead into half time. We were much improved in the second and equalised through a Gavin Charles penalty. Ladies vs Hamilton Sunday 29th October FT: 6-1 By Millie Wiltshire, Manager What a brilliant game for Crewkerne Ladies against Hamilton. First win of the season winning an amazing 6-1! Emily Cole was lady of the match and well deserved after also scoring an amazing goal. There was also a cracking goal from Ky Wastnidge. Holly Wyatt scored 2 awesome goals and the other 2 were own goals from the away team. Well deserved win for the Ladies after all the hard work they ve been putting in during our debut season. Up and onwards!!!

5 THE OPPOSITION: Somerdale Wanderers Today s visitors are Somerdale Wanderers of the Bristol and Suburban Football League. They currently sit 4th in Division 3 with 13 points from their opening 6 games. On Saturday they ran out emphatic 8-3 winners against Filton Athletic Reserves. Somerdale are a new club this season, being formed from last year s Fry s Club Old Boys Reserves setup. Under their old name they had a very successful 2016/17 season. As well as gaining promotion from Division 4 as runners up they brought home some silverware by winning the Len Bartlett Memorial Cup. A 90th minute winner from Tom Lambert gave them a 2-1 victory over Bedminster Cricketers, gaining revenge after defeat to the same side in the previous year s competition. Somerdale have had a very impressive run in the Intermediate Cup so far this season, without a goal conceded so far. They were 8-0 winners over South Park Rangers in the 1st Round, followed by a 9-0 victory over Porlock Reserves in Round 2. Last season they fell at the first hurdle, losing 3-1 to Highbridge United A. We extend a warm welcome to all Wanderers players and staff and look forward to an entertaining match here at Henhayes. 6 FEATURE: The Beginnings of Crewkerne Rangers By Mark Holton, Chairman Last season we covered how the makings of Rangers started back in 2004 when Scott Isaacs, with the help of the current club committee, took over Haselbury to stop them from folding after their management team left. A mixed 3 seasons followed and the decision was made to take a break for a year and prepare to form a new club. In this feature we look at how Rangers came to be. In the intervening season several of the Rangers squad, including myself, Scott and Steve Bryant, played for Hinton St George. It was a fun season, but behind the scenes planning for the start of a new Crewkerne club was well underway. We first had to decide a new name for our new club, but with seemingly endless possibilities this proved to be a tough decision. With most of the committee being Man Utd fans we thought Crewkerne United wouldn t let us be taken seriously. Crewkerne Alexandra was also suggested, but the original name as put on our application was Crewkerne Wanderers. However we'd agreed to change this to the Rangers name we know now shortly after. So in the summer of 2008 was the long awaited Perry Street League AGM. I recall being nervous going to the meeting. I was desperate for our application to be accepted, but I knew there would be opposition. At most AGMs the entry of new teams goes without incident and are usually unanimously accepted. However, there had been a lot of attention on our application in the build up with other clubs having reservations. We were asked to provide a list of players that were going to play for us in the following season - difficult to do in May! Nevertheless we'd provided the list and it was down to my Dad, Steve, to stand up and put forward our case. Luckily for us Bob Brunt, and the rest of the Perry Street committee at the time, supported our application which settled the nerves. Despite some votes against we were accepted into the league by majority vote. Finally there it was, our new club was in! After choosing a name for a new team comes the choice of kit colours. While some people see colours as temporary, we wanted to find an identity that we would stick to - and therefore colours that would become synonymous with Rangers in years to come.
7 Firstly, we needed a sponsor and fortunately The Swan Inn were very keen to support us and buy our first ever kit. A combination of budget and brand choices brought us to some near-end-of-line Adidas kits available in a limited selection of colours. Out of these, we discounted colours used by other local teams and also red (given the United based reasoning I mentioned earlier). This reduced the possibilities to 4; pink, orange, sky blue or white. Club Treasurer and kit washer Sue ruled out white given her experience of washing the Haselbury kit years previous. Orange was also the colour of the away kit we had used before and planned to use again, so that was out too. For some time pink seemed a favourite given it's uniqueness, and the sky blue similarities to Man City and the Argentina national team (memories of that match in '98 still looming) was edging the balance. However, eventually we agreed that sky blue was the best choice as historically Crewkerne have always played in dark blue, so sky gives a nod to this heritage while also being different from the already existing Crewkerne Town FC strip. This has turned out really well, not many suppliers do pink kits! Everything was now in place to start playing. In the next feature we'll look at how the 2008/09 season panned out. New Colts Kit A couple of weeks ago the kit for our new Colts side arrived. The kit matches the style of all other Rangers teams and was worn by Lee Gillman s Yeovil League Division 2 side for the first time in their 1-1 draw with Milborne Port A two weeks ago. As usual, the kit was supplied by Yellowbox in Yeovil and they did a great job as ever with the printing and embroidery. The kit is proudly sponsored by Quinn Building Products, one of the UK and Ireland s most diverse and experienced manufacturers of construction products. Established in the 1970 s, Quinn Building Products manufactures a wide range of premium building materials including high-performance rigid insulation, aerated thermal blocks, cement, hollow-core precast flooring and stair systems, and a range of related aggregate building products. A huge thank you to Quinn Building Products for supporting our club with this new kit. We rely on support from businesses like this to carry on doing what we love, playing football! If any other companies would like to get involved with our club please contact Chairman Mark Holton by mark@crewkernerangersfc.co.uk
