4 15 JENN BROOKS Junior D Claremont, CA Yrs International Play: Invited to train with the Australian National Team camp in Spring, 2007 with teammate Mariko Strickland and played the summer with the U20 Australian National Team. LBSU 2007: Appeared in 10 games off the bench for the Big West champion 49ers, starting three times at defender... started matches at UC Davis, at CS Nothridge and against CS Fullerton, playing a career-high 66 minutes in the win over CS Northridge... fired off 45 minutes in her first career start at UC Davis, a 1-0 win... also played 36 minutes against Wyoming at home and 33 minutes against CS Fullerton. LBSU 2006: Appeared in two matches on the season. St. Lucy s High School: A 2006 graduate of St. Lucy s Priory High School (Glendora, CA) and was part of the 39th-best recruiting class nationally... four-year letterman in women s soccer... named the MVP of the Sierra League her senior year and the Defensive Player of the Year... earned first team All-Inland Valley in 2005 and was named second team All-CIF... team won the Sierra League in her freshman and senior seasons... also ran on the 4x400m relay team for two years as part of the league-winning squad. Club: A member of the Rancho Santa Fe Attack club team and is a pool player in the premier Australian U-20 national team. 5 7 LINDSAY BULLOCK Sophmore MF Manhattan Beach, CA LBSU 2007: Part of Big West s top recruiting class for the third straight year and the nation s 27th-best recruiting class... one of three players to start all 20 games, all at midfield, finishing third on the team with five goals on 34 shots... nine times played the entire game, including a career-high 104 minutes in the 2-1 win over Oklahoma at home... didn t take long to score her first career goal, tallying the game-winner in the team s second game, in the 94th minute, to beat Utah 1-0 on September 2... scored again against Middle Tennesse, before tallying three goals in the team s eight Big West games, scoring the first goal in a 3-1 win at CS Northridge in October, followed by the first goals against Cal Poly in a 3-1 win on November 2, in the 12th minute, and the team s final tally of the season, in the 83rd minute, to make it 2-1, in the Big West semifinals. Mira Costa High School: Four-year letterman in soccer... named the 2005 and 2007 Bay League Most Valuable Player... named the league s Offensive Player of the Year in scored 12 goals and added 11 assists as a sophomore, 17 goals and 15 assists as a junior and 15 goals and eight assists as a senior... club team, Infinity, were ranked No. 1 nationally and were Surf Cup semifinalists and Blues Cup finalists... played for Infinity from 2005 to Mustangs were three-time league champions from 2005 to honor roll student. 6 20 DANA FARQUHAR Senior MF/F/D Redlands, CA Yrs LBSU Career: Three-year starter, spitting time between the midfield and front and most recently the backfield... has played in all 60 games in her career, starting 53, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists for 22 career points... also has 3 game-winning goals... ranks eighth all-time in career assists and just outside the top-10 in career points... second team All-Big West as a sophomore and is a two-time Big West Player of the Week. LBSU 2007: Played in all 20 games, starting 19, splitting time between midfield and forward to start the year, before moving to defender... scored two goals and added two assists... both goals were eventual game-winners, as her first score from Kim Silos and Mariko Strickland in the 14th minute against Baylor led to a 3-0 triumph; while her score in the 71st minute from Kim Silos and Hayley Bolt gave the 49ers a 1-0 win at UC Davis on October 7... also had an assist in the win over Baylor... other assist came in the 11th minute in a pass to Lindsay Bullock setting up the first of three scores in a 3-1 win... played all but two minutes of the final six matches of the season. LBSU 2006: Second team All-Big West selection, one of five players honored for the Big West Champions... fourth in the Big West in assists (4), tying teammate Hayley Bolt, while also scoring four goals, to give her 16 points on 24 shots on the season... scored her only game-winner in the season-opener at Oregon in the 81st minute, taking an assist from Kim Silos and Sarah Strohl to give the 49ers a 1-0 win and earning Big West Player of the Week honors... second goal came at Eastern Washington on September assisted on the game-winner in the 73rd minute at UCSB on October 6 in the 73rd minute. Arrowhead Christian Acaedmy: A 2005 graduate of Arrowhead Christian Academy (Redlands, CA)... 7 25 CAT GRAY Senior D La Palma, CA LBSU 2007: Starting defender for the last half of the season, starting seven of 16 matches overall and seven of the last eight (all in conference play)... scored one goal and added an assist... defense produced the third-lowest goals against average in school-history (0.89) to go along with seven shutouts... defense also allowed a record-low 164 shots for the Big West Champions... played a career-high 80 minutes in her second start of the season, at CS Northridge... scored the first goal of what would be an exciting back-and-forth win at Pacific, finding the back of the net in the 40th minute to cut the Tigers lead in half, at 2-1 in an eventual 3-2 win... her only assist came on the game-winner against Cal Poly, to Mariko Strickland in the 63rd minute to make it 2-1 in an eventual 3-1 victory. Long Beach CC: Two-time first team All-South Coast Conference pick at nearby city college... scored one goal and added three assists as a sophomore after help lead the Vikings to a state championship and No. 1 national ranking in 2005, finishing the season at anchored a defense as a freshman that posted 18 shutouts and allowed just 12 goals in 22 games... scored one goal and added six assists... named the team MVP in 2006 and the defensive MVP in Kennedy High School: Four-year letterman in soccer... team captain as a senior... three team league champions from 2003 to was named first team all-league as a senior and was a second team selection as a junior. 8 4 SAHAR HAGHDAN Senior F/MF Palmdale, CA Yrs LBSU Career: Has started 55 of 56 matches in her career, starting every game her first two years (40 matches), before being bothered by a leg injury in earned first team All-Big West honors as a sophomore, after being an honorable mention pick as a freshman... has 12 career goals, which is ninth all-time, while her 12 career assists is fifth all-time... in all, has tallied 36 career points, tied for seventh-best all-time... also has four career game-winners, two as a freshman and two as junior, fifth-best all-time. LBSU 2007: Hampered by a leg injury but still managed to start 15 of 16 games on the season, at the forward position, scoring two goals and added five assists, tied for second on the team... came on at the midway point of the season, scoring the game-winning assist against Wyoming on September 30, in the third minute, before picking up the game-winner herself in the 51st minute on a pass from Hayley Bolt in Northridge... two games later she had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 win over UC Riverside in the 24th minute, before scoring the game-winner three games later, against UC Santa Barbara on in the season finale in the 61st minute. LBSU 2006: Named first team All-Big West... ranked ninth in the Big West in goals (6) and 10th in overall points (10)... assisted on the 1-0 game-winner against Tennessee-Martin on September 17 in the 75th minute and another 1-0 game winner in the 73rd minute at UCSB... scored two goals in the eventual 3-2 win over CS Northridge on October 1, scoring in the 3rd and 18th minutes... scored the 49ers only goal in a 2-1 double overtime loss to Cal Poy in the Big West Semifinals, scoring in the 67th minute. LBSU 2005: Honorable mention All-Big West... one of eight starting freshman, tallied four goals and four assists over 20 starts... tallied the game-winner over Idaho State on September 2 in the 79th minute... had two goals and an assist as part of a 3-0 win over UC Davis on October 21, scoring in the eighth and 54th minutes... this came after getting an assist three days earlier in the team s 2-0 win over Idaho. Highland High School: Soccer Buzz Top-100 recruit, one of four 49ers in the top-100, on the 15th-ranked recruiting class in the nation... a 2005 graduate of Highland High School (Palmdale, CA)... named the Golden League s MVP in also earned AVsports.com s Antelope Valley s Athlete of the Year in 2003 and set the single-season record for goals with 28 in 2003 and the career record with 66. Club: Played for the Infinity Club Team and was a part of the Cal South team from 2002 to 2005 and were regional ODP champions from 2003 to 2005 and 2004 national champions... won the U16 national championship in 2003 and 2004 in the SoCal FUTSAL Championships (five to a side). LBSU 2006: Appeared in 11 matches with one start as a freshman defender... the 49ers set the school-record for shutouts with played in a season-high 54 minutes in the 0-0 double overtime tie at Cal Poly and played 56 minutes in the 1-0 win over Portland State in her only start. North Torrance High School: A 2006 graduate of North Torrance High (Torrance, CA) and is part of the 39th-best recruiting class nationally... was a four-year letterman in soccer for Eric Miseroy and was a three-time letterman in track and field in the long jump, 100 and 200-meters and 4x100-meter relays... named first team All-CIF as a senior... team reached the quarterfinals of the CIF Playoffs in 2005 and And Finally: Daughter of Michael and Christine Hubbard... majoring in psychology. 5 YERALDY HURTADO Junior MF Ventura, CA Yrs LBSU Career: Has appeared in 32 matches in her two-year career, scoring two goals and adding an assist for five career points... has one career game-winner. LBSU 2007: Appeared in 13 matches, all off the bench, scoring one goal on four shots... played a season-high 24 minutes against UC Santa Barbara in the 2-1 win on November 4... lone goal came in the 76th minute to put the contest away, when she scored unassisted in the 3-1 win over Cal Poly on November 2. LBSU 2006: One of a handful of freshmen on the squad, appeared in 19 matches with nine starts... only goal came on September 8 against Utah State in San Francisco, taking a ball from prep teammate Sara Baca and scoring in the 40th minute... assisted on Hayley Bolt s goal in the 22nd minute of the 2-0 win against Pacific on September 29 to open up Big West play... took 14 shots on the season. Buena High School: A Top-50 recruit, according to Soccer Buzz... part of the 39thbest recruiting class in the country... just the third-ever top-50 recruit in schoolhistory... the 2006 graduate was prep teammates with Sara Baca, as the duo won the CIF title in named the 2005 CIF Division-II Offensive Player of the Year... also named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas prep All-American team... was a two-time first team All-CIF pick and was twice named Channel League Offensive MVP... twotime first team all-league as well. 10 3 KRISTEN KIEFER Sophomore F Mission Viejo, CA LBSU 2007 (Soccer): Named second team All-Big West... started 14 of 18 matches on the season, scoring six goals and adding five assists, both second on the team... missed about two weeks of the season after injuring her right ankle in the closing minutes at Pacific on October 5... after scoring six goals over her first 12 matches, ranking near the top of the conference, did not score again on the season... scored two goals against Middle Tennessee as part of a 5-1 win on September the next match, also in Oklahoma, she had two assists, to earn a spot on the All-Sooner Classic team... began her collegiate career with a goal and an assist at CS Bakersfield on August 31, scoring the first goal of the contest in the eventual 5-0 win... had back-to-back goals in wins over Wyoming on September 30 and at Pacific on October 5...ranked third in the Big West in points (17) and goals (6) and fourth in assists (5). LBSU 2008 (Track): Competed as a freshman on the 49er track and field team... set a season-best in the 100m hurdles at the championships before earning All-Big West honors with a bronze in the 400m at qualified for the Big West Championships in both hurdles as well as the 4x400m relay and the long jump qualified and ran in the NCAA Regionals in the 400m hurdles. Capistrano Valley High School: Lettered three years in soccer and four years in track... named first team all-league in 2005 and 2007 and was All-South Coast League honorable mention in team leader in goals scored all three years... in track, was a two-time league champion in the long and triple jumps and the 300-meter hurdles, earning Female League Athlete of the Meet in 2006 and twice named all-county in 2005 and 2006 in 300m hurdles... first won league in 2005 in the long and triple jumps... set school records in the 100-meter hurdles (13.9) and 300-meter hurdles (42.7), long jump ( )... the 300-meter hurdle time was also a league record... played for the SoCal Blues and the U18/19 Premier teams... honor roll student and a scholar athlete. 11 17 JULIE MEGORDEN Junior D Los Alamitos, CA Yrs LBSU Career: A starter throughout her career on the backline, she has started 33 of 37 matches, tallying two assists (both in 2005)... part of a record setting defense which has posted 24 shutouts over the last two years... recovering from surgery on her right knee, practicing with the team during fall workouts LBSU 2007: Played the first six matches of the season, starting four, before getting injured against Oklahoma on September 14 and missing the rest of the season... team posted two shutouts to start the season and had three one-goal losses at top-25 opponents. LBSU 2006: Started all 20 matches for the Big West Champions, at defender... one of four players to start all 20 games... the 49ers posted a record 13 shutouts, ranking 19th nationally in goals against average, while setting a school record (0.64)... the 49ers allowed just two goals over the first eight matches. LBSU 2005: Starting freshman defender for 13 of 17 games played... tallied two assists on the year, both to prep teammate Hayley Bolt, in the fifth minute against San Jose State on August 30 and in the 70th minute to tie the game at UNLV on September defense set a school record for shutouts (11) as she was one of eight freshman starters. 12 24 JANET MENDEZ Sophomore F Palmdale, CA LBSU 2007: Appeared in 10 games with a single gaol at CS Bakersfield to open the season on August 31, when she played 26 minutes... also played 39 minutes off the bench at Clemson on September 7 and 29 minutes at CS Northridge on October scored the final of five goals in a 5-0 win in Bakersfield, tying the school-record for goals and margin of victory. International Play: Is a current member of the U20 Mexican National Team... The sophomore-to-be Janet Mendez started and played 72 minutes for the Under-20 Mexican National Team this past summer, as Mexico finished third at the CONCACAF Regional Championships at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico... Mexico defeated Costa Rica 3-2 in penalty kicks, as the Mexicans took a lead in the 28th minute, before Costa Rica tied it in the 48th minute. Both teams traded goals in overtime, before Mexico won on penalty kicks... with the win, Mexico qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Chile in November. Canada won the championship, defeating the U.S In pool play, Mexico defeated Cuba 7-0 and Trinidad 3-0. Mendez did not play against Cuba, but played 56 minutes against Trinidad. Highland High School: Four-year letterman in soccer at Highland High, playing with current 49er Sahar Haghdan... named the team s most valuable offensive player in 2005 and was a scholar-athlete... played for the Arsenal Club Team.
