1 The South Yorkshire School Games Level 3 Badminton Finals Congratulations on securing a place at the Level 3 School Games Badminton Finals. This is a great achievement and something the whole school should be very proud of. The Level 3 Final: Date: Thursday 16 th February 2017 Venue: Concord Sports Centre, Shiregreen Lane, Sheffield S5 6AE Time: KS3 Registration 9am (competition 9am-12pm) KS4 Registration 12pm (competition 12pm-3pm) (Please arrive promptly to allow for registration and to receive your timetable as well as further event information. Please familiarise yourself with the rules and routine formats of the Level 3 finals which can be accessed at along with supplementary event documents and risk assessments. There may be members of the media present, please make the organisers aware on arrival if any member of your team does not have photo/video permission and they will be provided with an ID wristband. On Arrival: There are a limited number of free parking spaces available at the venue for cars and minibuses. Upon arrival, please head to the event registration which is situated in the sports hall; please inform a member of the event team that you have arrived. Once registered you will collect your event t-shirts and congregate with the other teams prior to the competition starting. Spirit of the Games It is a fantastic achievement for the young people to reach the Level 3 School Games and we want to encourage fair play throughout all aspects of the finals. The event will be supported by young leaders & volunteers who without their help and dedication the Games wouldn t be possible! Please respect all decisions of the officials. By registering to attend, your school, staff and participants agree to abide by the values of the School Games.

2 Welfare & Safeguarding: Each team competing at the finals are required to have a nominated Team Manager. Team Managers and additional school staff are responsible for their team members at all times during School Games events including supervision, health & safety, welfare, behaviour and conduct. Team Manager selection is at the discretion of the school. This will usually be a member of the teaching staff and they will have FULL responsibility for the young people in attendance at the Games. Yorkshire Sport Foundation will hold details of each of the team managers in attendance for emergency situations. Therefore, please ensure you have provided your mobile phone contacts prior to the event and during registration. Team Managers are required to collect all relevant personal information for all their participants, including additional staff members. It is a requirement that Team Managers have the following information available to them on the day of the event: Individual emergency contact details for parents including mobile phone contacts Information about the specific care needs of any participants with a disability. Consent will be obtained from the participants parent of any required intimate care needs to be met by staff/volunteers acting in loco parentis at the Games. Information about any medical condition/allergies the children may have where relevant they must supply sufficient medication for the duration of the event that is to be met by the staff acting in loco parentis. Consent has also been requested for any treatment to be administered to the participant in the event of any illness/accident. Photographic and video consent for their team members. Information about transport arrangements for the event. Information about any specific religious/cultural needs e.g. time/space to pray. Please share this information with the school s Senior Leadership Team.

4 Format: Age group(s): Team & squad numbers: Level 3 qualification: Sport organiser: Badminton Rules National Schools Championships Key Stage 3 (Y7,8 & 9) - Boys Key Stage 3 (Y7,8 & 9) Girls Key Stage 4 (Y10 & 11) - Boys Key Stage 4 (Y10 & 11) - Girls Teams of 5 players with any 4 in each match KS3 9am-12pm KS4 12pm-3pm Top two teams per district Richard Morris RULES & REGULATIONS By participating in the School Games finals, schools accept the Rules and Regulations and agree to abide by them, and understand that the decisions made by BADMINTON England are final. School & Player Eligibility Players within the Key Stage 3 competition must be in school years 7, 8 or 9. Players within the Key Stage 4 competition must be in school years 10 or 11 (Years 7, 8 or 9 are not eligible to play in the Key Stage 4 event. If an ineligible player(s) is/are fielded their scores will be awarded to the opposition game love). Team & Match Format If a school has entered two or more teams then the 1st or A Team shall be considered the strongest. A player may only play for one team per round A player may play up into a stronger team provided that they have not already played for another team in that same round A player may not play down into a weaker team if they have already represented a stronger team in a match or have been nominated for a stronger team Players participating in the final must have represented their school in at least one previous round. Teams will consist of 5 players with any 4 taking part in each match. The 5th player can be used in any match and not just as a reserve in case of injury. If a player is injured during a game then that game is conceded, but the 5th player may be substituted for further games in that match. Each match will consist of 5 games: 2 x singles and 3 x doubles, with each player playing 2 games. This is shown in the playing format for a match below: 1st Game: Singles (No.1 ranked player in the team) 2nd Game: Doubles (the 2 players not selected for a singles game) 3rd Game: Singles (No. 2 or 3 ranked player chosen for singles) 4th Game: Doubles (first singles player + either one of non-singles players) 5th Game: Doubles (second singles player + the other non-singles player)

5 For each match a Score Sheet (provided) must be completed and signed by both Team Managers. Team Managers are responsible for ensuring that the results on the sheets are correct. Group winners will be decided as follows: Most matches won - If 2 teams are tied, the winner of the match between them - If 3 or more teams are tied, the team with greater games difference - If 2 teams are then tied, the winner of the match between them - If 3 or more teams are still tied, then the team with greater points difference - If 2 teams are then tied, the winner of the match between them Each game will be 1 set to 21 points, using Rally Points scoring, with no extended scoring or setting. Games may be played to fewer points (minimum of 11 points) if time is restricted If a team cannot play all of the games within a match, then those un-played games will be awarded to the opposition game love If a team cannot play all of the matches within a round, then all of their results will be discounted and the team scratched. Any appeals may be made in writing The winner of each event in each round will progress to the next round. If a team drops out of the Championships at any point then the next best placed team from the last round will progress Regional Finals The winners of the South Yorkshire Finals will qualify for the regional finals.
