It s the first of 16 meetings between the in-state rivals in 2013. The Intimidators send White Sox 2012 fourth round pick Brandon Brennan to the mound to face Hickory s Connor Sadzeck. Last season, the Intimidators and Crawdads were rained out on Opening Day, forcing a double-header the following Saturday, which the Crawdads swept. Kannapolis earned its first win of 2012 with a walk-off win over Hickory in the series final on April 8. Alone at the Top: Kannapolis is in first place in the SAL Northern Division at 5-2, a full game ahead of Delmarva, Greensboro and Hagerstown (4-3) and tied with the Southern Division s Asheville and Charleston for the league s best record. It s the fist time that the Intimidators have been in sole possession of first place at least one week into the season since April 28, 2011, when the team was 14-6, a half-game up the standings. Tommy Thompson managed the 2011 squad to within a game of the SAL Playoffs. Intimidating Starter: Brandon Brennan, 21, makes his second start after taking no decision on April 6 at Lakewood. In that outing, he lasted 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and keeping the Claws two runs on five. The White Sox selected Brennan with their fourth round pick in last summer s draft out of Orange Coast College where he went 11-1 with a 1.25 ERA in his final season. He enters this season rated by Baseball America as the No. 23 prospect in the White Sox system. He has not yet faced a Texas Rangers affiliate in his career. Hickory s Hurler: Connor Sadzeck, 21, makes his second start of the campaign after taking no decision at home against Greensboro on April 6. He gave up three runs on four hits to the Grasshoppers over 5 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out three. The Rangers selected Sadzeck in the 11th round of the June 2011 draft out of Crystal Lake Central (Ill.) High School. He went 1-4 with a 4.06 ERA in 15 games (15 starts) for Short-Season Spokane in 2012. About Last Night: Kannapolis notched a series win at Delmarva with a 4-2 victory at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. Euclides Leyer worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs while scattering eight hits and striking out six. Zachary Fisher broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth with a two-out, two-run double to put Kannapolis ahead for good. Delmarva cut the lead to one before Kannapolis reliever Braulio Ortiz slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth, inducing a game-ending double play to secure the victory. King Kiser: Despite an 0-3 night in Delmarva on Wednesday, Kale Kiser still drove in a run to maintain his league-lead with 12 RBI. The left fielder ranks second in average at.455 (10-22), second in slugging percentage (.727), and tied for third in on-base percentage (.500). The switch-hitter has driven in a run in six of the Intimidators seven games this season. Myles Ahead of the Rest: Kannapolis SP Myles Jaye is tied with just four other arms with a SAL-best two wins on the season. Jaye earned a victory on Tuesday, limited Delmarva to two runs over 5.0 innings while striking out five. Can t Catch Kanny: Intimidators leadoff man Micah Johnson drew a walk to open Tuesday s game then stole second and third, giving him Sally League-best six stolen bases on the year. Teammate Adam Heisler, the Intimidators No. 2 hitter, swiped a bag as well on Tuesday, his fifth of the season, second-most in the SAL. As a team, Kannapolis has 16 stolen bases this season, one behind league-leader Asheville (17).
