Raced wide without cover from the 1000m. Atlantis Dream (NZ) checked passing the 1400m when tightened for room by To Be Honest which was taken in by Evie Rose (Jye McNeil). A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormal findings. To Be Honest passing the 1400m had to be steadied when taken in to avoid the heels of Evie Rose which was shifting in. From that point over-raced before settling passing the 1000m. Lady Melksham rider Katelyn Mallyon reported the mare was very disappointing and a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be short in front. Spirit Of Heaven (NZ) apprentice Regan Bayliss was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare today. He explained the pre-race plan from the wide draw was to be neutral in the early stages however his mount jumped very well and he was left with no other option but to go forward as his alternative was to sit extremely wide without cover. Apprentice Jye McNeil (Evie Rose) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that he shifted in near the 1400m, when insufficiently clear of To Be Honest which in turn was taken in across the rightful running of Atlantis Dream (NZ) resulting in Atlantis Dream (NZ) being checked. Jye McNeil had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 19 and to expire at midnight August 27, a total of eight race meetings (three metropolitan, five provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jye McNeil s guilty plea and good record and that the careless riding was in the low range. Race 2 LEGACY 2014 BADGE APPEAL HANDICAP - 2000 metres:
Unchain My Heart slow to begin. Molon Lave slow to begin. Shifted out abruptly away from the running rail near the 1300m and became unbalanced. Darlimurla Star was pulling hard and had to be restrained near the 1400m and then shifted out to avoid the heels of Lord Durante. Steven King (Lord Durante) was severely reprimanded for not being fully clear of Darlimurla Star when shifting in. Kindergarden Kid (USA) raced wide without cover in the early and middles stages before going forward passing the 1200m to sit outside Regaliti. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 3 BEVERIDGE WILLIAMS PLATE - 1600 metres: Felidea slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and shifted in near the 300m to obtain a clear run. Digitalism when making ground had to be steadied approaching the finishing line when disappointed for clear running. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Fulgur (GB) rider Craig Newitt could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Royal Island Regan Bayliss reported after the race that in his view the gelding had come to the end of its preparation after weakening in the straight and the stable confirmed the gelding would now be spelled. Race 5 WINSLOW GROUP REGAL ROLLER STAKES (Listed) - 1200 metres: Pillar Of Creation was steadied at the 100m when disappointed for full running between Jemerica which was shifting out and Desert Jeuney, which shifted in to gain running on the inside of Moment Of Change. James Winks (Desert Jeuney) was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise more care.
Race 6 LISTER QUEZETTE STAKES (Group 3) - 1100 metres: Tycoon Peri fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. After being re-loaded, Tycoon Peri was again fractious and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.24pm and trainer Mr Ken Keys was advised the filly must gain further approval at a jump out prior to racing again. All monies invested on Tycoon Peri to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3.24pm: 3 cents in the dollar for the Win #12, 6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12, 3 cents in the dollar for second place #3, 4 cents in the dollar for third place #7 and 3 cents in the dollar for double bets. Sabatini tightened for room shortly after the start between Sunset Rock and Empress O Reilly (NZ) which both shifted ground. Lexgetready over-raced during the middle stages when being steadied to avoid heels. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the straight and went to the line not fully tested. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a wound to its near hind leg and was referred to the Caulfield Equine Clinic for treatment. Empress O Reilly (NZ) held up for clear running from the 300m until near the 150m. Race 7 KS ENVIRONMENTAL VAIN STAKES (Group 3) - 1100 metres: Jabali trainer Mr M Price was fined $50 for presenting the colt to race without a tongue tie. Began awkwardly. Rider Damien Oliver could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance; a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and Stewards will follow up with the stable in the coming days. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. Nordic Empire fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Zululand proved difficult to load and will be required to gain further approval at a jump out prior to racing again. Disappointed for clear running from passing the 100m until approaching the finish line. Just For Starters slow to begin. Honest Lee when racing keenly shifted out to a four wide position without cover to avoid the heels of Get The Nod near the 600m. Stingray held up for clear running rounding the home turn until straightening and again near the 200m had to shift out across the heels of Get The Nod to obtain clear running to the line. Race 8 BACK TO CAULFIELD P B LAWRENCE STAKES (Group 2) - 1400 metres: Kincaple (NZ) slow to begin. Brambles (NZ) slow to begin. Got its head up in the middle stages when racing ungenerously. Puissance De Lune raced wide without cover in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.
Race 9 AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE HANDICAP - 1100 metres: Bonaria Trainer Mr Pat Hyland was reprimanded for failing to notify that the concussion plates had been removed from the mare; in assessing penalty Steward took into account Mr Hyland has not had a gear infringement since 2007. Held up for clear running at the top of the straight until shifting out across the heels of Bloomingdale Miss near the 200m. Tightened for room between the 900m and the 700m. Flash Of Doubt underwent a veterinary examination behind the start and was passed suitable to race. Got its head up near the 600m when being steadied to avoid the heels of Divine City when the tempo steadied. Divine City had to be checked passing the 600m to avoid the heels of Danestroem. Bloomingdale Miss tightened for room between the 900m and the 700m. Esprit s Choice tightened for room between the 900m and the 700m. Danestroem severely checked near the winning post. Chad Schofield (You re So Good (NZ)) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that between the 900m and the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in, initially tightening the running of Bloomingdale Miss which then shifted in and made contact with Esprit s Choice; and then permitting his mount to continue to shift in unnecessarily crowding Bloomingdale Miss in onto Esprit s Choice which had to surrender its rightful running and this also caused tightening to Bonaria. Chad Schofield had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 18 and to expire at midnight September 18, a total of thirty-one race meetings which is one calendar month. The Stewards deemed this incident to be in the high range. Chad Schofield (You re So Good (NZ)) was further found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that near the winning post he permitted his mount to shift in tightening the running of Danestroem causing that horse to be checked severely and making contact with the running rail. Chad Schofield had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 18 and to expire at midnight September 1, a total of fourteen race meetings and is to be served concurrently with the suspension incurred above. The Stewards deemed the incident in the mid-range.
