Game #36 (14-21) Away Games #23 (10-12) RHP Euclides Leyer (2-3, 3.82) vs. RHP Christian Binford (2-2, 3.21) Today s Preview: The Intimidators (A, White Sox) take on the Legends (A, Royals) in the finale of a 3-game series and 7-game road trip. Kannapolis is trying to avoid a sweep and finish this trip with a winning record. The Intimidators, who are 3-3 on this swing through Asheville and Lexington, are sixth in the SAL, 7.0 games behind first place Hagerstown. RHP Euclides Leyer takes the ball for the seventh time as he faces Lexington s Christian Binford, a Top 30 Prospects in the Royal farm system. Kannapolis is 3-3 in day games this season, including 3-2 in road days games. Intimidating Starter: Euclides Leyer, 22, makes his seventh start of the season on the heels of his best outing of the year. He notched a win at Asheville on May 10 in which he worked a season-high 7.0 innings in which he allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six. He has fanned 13 over his last two starts, spanning 12 innings. This is Leyer s first start against the Legends and second against a Royals affiliate (he pitched 6.0 innings of 1-run, 2-hit ball to earn a win against Advanced Rookie Burlington on July 2, 2011, for the Bristol White Sox). Legendary Starter: Christian Binford, 20, makes his seventh start of the season and first against a White Sox affiliate. He has struck out 34 batters while walking nine over 33.2 innings this season. Baseball America rates Binford the No. 26 Prospect in the Royals system. He underwent Tommy John surgery as a high school junior, and Kansas City drafted him in the 30th round of the June 2011 draft. He went 2-3 with a 2.03 ERA (9 ER/40 IP), striking out 31 and walking four over eight starts in his professional debut with Advanced Rookie Burlington in 2012. According to BA, he showed advanced feel for pitching and surprising control [with Burlington], at one point going five straight starts without allowing a walk. Low Hits: The Intimidators managed just three hits on Monday, equaling the fewest hits for Kannapolis on the season. The team collected three hits on April 6 at Lakewood, a 3-2 loss to the BlueClaws. The 3-hit game for the Intimidators comes just two days after a 19-hit barrage in a 10-7 win at Asheville on May 12. Hot on the Corner: Michael Johnson has picked up the pace at the plate, reaching base safely in his last nine games. He went 0-2 with two walks on Tuesday, his second straight two-walk games on the heels of a seven-game hitting streak in which he hit.474 (9-19) from May 4-12. His nine-game on-base streak is the longest current streak by an Intimidator. Johnson has manned third base for the last seven Intimidators games after playing primarily in the middle infield to open the season. Micah on the Move: Leadoff man Micah Johnson added three stolen bases Monday at Lexington, upping his Minor League-leading total to 35 in 42 attempts (.833). He was 2-4 at the plate, upping his average to.323 (40-124) on the year, ninth-best in the SAL. Johnson leads the league with five triples and is tied for the league lead with 24 runs scored. He is 10th in the SAL with a.407 on-base percentage. Baseball America rated Johnson as the White Sox No. 25 Prospect this season, naming him the Fastest Baserunner in the organization s 2012 draft class. The White Sox selected him in the ninth round out of Indiana last June. Cose Coasts: Jake Cose cruised through seven innings Monday, allowing one unearned run on three hits while walking one and striking out a season-high nine batters. Cose is 2-3 with a 1.77 ERA, the seventh-best ERA in the league. He is tied for fifth in the SAL with 40.2 innings pitched. He is second in the White Sox organization in ERA, just behind Winston-Salem s Chris Bassitt (1.71). Big Bad Braulio: Reliever Braulio Ortiz fanned five batters over 3.0 scoreless relief innings on Monday, equaling his season-high of five strikeouts from April 12 against Hickory. Ortiz is now 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 11 games, and he has struck out 26 batters over 18.2 innings of work. Dash-ing Debut: Myles Jaye worked six innings on Monday for the High-A Winston-Salem Dash in his Carolina League debut to earn a win over Myrtle Beach. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six after being promoted from Kannapolis earlier in the day. Legendary Prospects: Lexington s roster features eight of the Kansas City s Top 30 Prospects according to Baseball America, including: (2) Bubba Starling, OF; (5) Raul Mondesi, SS; (10) Miguel Almonte, RHP; (15) Cameron Gallagher, C; (17) Bryan Brickhouse, RHP; (23) Fred Ford, OF; (25) Colin Rodgers, LHP; and (26) Christian Binford, RHP.
