Race 1 SPORTINGBET PLATE- 1000 metres: Arctic Reign, which was slow to begin, was tightened for room by Nakusha which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in. Miracle to Me was slow into stride. Calypso Queen raced wide throughout. Near the 400m Nakusha was hampered when racing tight to the inside of Denpasar, which was taken in slightly by Calypso Queen. V Duric, rider of Nakusha which finished last, reported that the filly which was having its first start, raced greenly when in behind horses and after receiving minor interference near the 400m gave ground from that point. A subsequent veterinary examination of Nakusha revealed no abnormalities.
C Symons, rider of Miracle To Me, reported that his filly raced very greenly. Race 2 FAREWELL TO SHAMROCKER HANDICAP - 2500 metres: Heaven s Riches stood flat footed and lost considerable ground (four lengths). Stewards interviewed Mr R Laing, trainer of Heaven s Riches, regarding the horse s manners at the start. Mr Laing made application to remove the blinkers and norton bit from Heaven s Riches which he said would be an acceptor at Sandown next Wednesday. Stewards acceded to this request but informed Mr Laing that should Heaven s Riches be slow at Sandown it is most likely that Stewards will take further action. Between the 600m and the 400m Apres was held up for a clear run. Near the 400m Beer Garden was hampered when tightened for room between High Kingczar and Apres, which was initially taken in by Prinsen which shifted in before being straightened by its rider. High Kingczar lost its off hind plate in running. G Boss, rider of High Kingczar which led and weakened to finish at the rear of the field, could offer no explanation for the performance other than on pulling up he noticed that it had lost a plate and had suffered an abrasion to its near hind leg. When questioned by Stewards, J Kissick rider of Apres, advised that he was instructed to hold the gelding up for as long as possible as Apres races best when ridden in this manner and may be suspect at the 2500m. He added that whilst he had an opportunity to shift three wide at the 700m and place Aggregator (NZ) (first placegetter) four wide, he was mindful of the instructions given but in hindsight felt it may have been to his advantage to have done so. Stewards questioned A Forbes, rider of Prinsen, regarding the horse being positioned further back this evening than compared to its previous start. A Forbes advised that he was instructed not to bustle Prinsen out of the barriers and the expectation was that it would maintain a handy position. However, Prinsen lacked leg speed from the barriers and was then caught in a position behind outside horses going forward and for his reason got further back than expected. Race 3 PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES PLATE - 1600 metres: Demonstrable and Goddess Pele both jumped away awkwardly. Benzaiten and Laughing Lad bumped on jumping away. Near the 1300m Demonstrable and Prince Valiant raced tight for a short distance between Sea Of Choice and Walloon Region. M Rodd, rider of Goddess Pele, reported that his mount was difficult to ride out in the straight due to it laying in.
L Nolen, rider of Laughing Lad which was disappointing, could offer no explanation and a post race veterinary examination of Laughing Lad revealed the colt to have mild respiratory distress. Race 4 ART SERIES HOTEL GROUP HANDICAP - 1600 metres: Silver Trinket was slow to begin. Good Thinking was slow into stride. Near the 1300m Good Thinking raced awkward for a number of strides between High Aims and Cash Rules. Near the 800m turn Good Thinking shifted out abruptly away from the heels of Cash Rules. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Scarletini tonight, J Mott explained that from its wide barrier draw in a small field with little early speed in the race, and as Scarletini was stepping up in distance, he allowed the filly to take up a forward position. Race 5 ESSENDON MAZDA 55 SECOND CHALLENGE HEAT 14-955 metres: Prior to correct weight D Moor rider of Fab Fevola, second placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards were also satisfied there were no grounds for an objection. It was established that near the 50m Fab Fevola shifted out slightly and made contact with King Cotton. Paaratte Pat and Broken Jaw were both slow to begin. The Minister was slow into stride and took up a position at the rear of the field. Fab Fevola jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and was bumped heavily on the hindquarters by Broken Jaw. In the early stages Melba raced wide. Jayconi raced wide without cover. Race 6 HAFELE HANDICAP- 1000 metres: Reigning Lass, No Manners and Dashing Shadow were all slow to begin. Shortly after the start My Option shifted in and made contact with Oamaru Princess. No Vanity and Gold Rust raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn and the early part of the straight Pixie Eyes was held up when unable to obtain a clear run before shifting out and obtaining a run near the 100m. Prior to straightening Reigning Lass had difficulty obtaining a clear run.
Approaching the 200m Reigning Lass and No Vanity were tightened for room between Gold Rust and Extreme Impact which shifted out away from No Manners after being initially taken out slightly by that mare. J Winks, rider of Extreme Impact, was notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances. Passing the 200m No Manners, which had been held up for a clear run, checked out across the heels of Pixie Eyes which had shifted out. A post race veterinary examination of No Vanity revealed no abnormalities. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Dashing Shadow had the thumps and Oamaru Princess had a slower than normal recovery. Race 7 SUNGOLD TOUR OF VICTORIA HANDICAP - 1533 metres: After the running of Race 4 connections advised that Hell s Kitchen would be ridden forward tonight. Hell s Kitchen raced worse than mid-field despite the efforts of its rider to race closer. Prior to correct weight S Vella rider of Hell s Kitchen, third placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards were also satisfied there were no grounds for an objection. It was established that Hell s Kitchen raced neatly between Ladramahs and Freshwater Storm (NZ) for some distance approaching and passing the 800m. Freshwater Storm (NZ) and Fierce Command raced wide without cover. Green Edge hung in approaching and rounding the home turn. Anlon was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and until near the 100m. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported Fierce Command to be suffering mild to moderate heat stress and mild respiratory distress. Race 8 JOHN PARASKEVAS HANDICAP - 1600 metres: Crystalised (NZ) jumped away awkwardly. In the straight Kasmaher hung in. G Boss, rider of Crystalised (NZ) which performed below expectations, reported that the mare over-raced in the early stages and this had a detrimental effect on Crystalised s (NZ) chances today. A post race veterinary examination of Crystalised (NZ) revealed no abnormalities. I Gundogdu, rider of Chiquada (NZ) which finished toward the rear of the field, reported that the mare has come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of Chiquada (NZ) revealed the mare had sustained a laceration to its off hind leg and trainer Mr B Jenkins confirmed that Chiquada (NZ) would now be spelled.
