Passing the finishing post the first time, Elldami was steadied when tightened in onto Blue Ribbon by Baqaat (USA) (G Boss) which shifted in before being straightened. G Boss was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Vittoria (NZ), first placegetter, raced wide without cover from the 1000m. J Beriman (Vittoria (NZ)) was issued with a reprimand for failing to ride her mount out to the winning post at least hands and heels. D Dunn (Elldami) reported after the race that he was of the view that his mount jarred up. K Mallyon, rider of Champagne Love, advised after passing the 800m her mount felt short in its action and therefore she elected to ease Champagne Love out of the event. A post race veterinary examination of Champagne Love revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Ms M Wells was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Champagne Love racing again. Race 2 1PRINT.COM.AU HANDICAP - 2040 metres: Kinesthetic was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 8.45am and trainer Mr L Corstens will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it.
Prior to the start of the meeting trainer Mr M Young advised that it was his intention to have Hell s Kitchen ridden closer this evening. Hell s Kitchen was ridden accordingly. Fabriano jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the finishing post the first time, Freshwater Storm was restrained to allow Magical King (NZ) to go forward and lead. Another Blue Boy over-raced in the middle stages before being allowed to go forward passing the 1200m to lead. Approaching and rounding the home turn Fabriano was held up until near the 200m. Approaching the finishing line Magical King (NZ), second placegetter, shifted out under pressure and had to be eased off the heels of Fresh Light. This necessitated N Hall, rider of Magical King (NZ), to stop riding over the concluding stages. Race 3 ALTERNATE RAILWAY ST ALBANS STAKES (Listed) - 1200 metres: M Rodd, rider of Vero Beach, reported that the colt raced greenly throughout the event. N Hall, rider of Judicial Rock, which was eased down from the home turn, advised that Judicial Rock felt short in its action. A post race veterinary examination of Judicial Rock revealed the filly to be slightly lame in the near hind leg and trainer Mr L Corstens was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the filly racing again. Race 4 PRINTHOUSE KERRY GILLESPIE PREMIUM HANDICAP - 1200 metres: B Rawiller was fined $200 for accepting a ride on Summer Gem when found to be overweight. At the start Sweetener shifted out and made contact with Dane Opera. Also at the start Bon Vacance, which was slow to begin, was then tightened for room between Sumakaray, which shifted out, and We Own An Angel which was taken in by Sheza Single Girl. In this incident We Own An Angel also had to be checked. In the early and middle stages Bon Vacance had a tendency to over-race. Spitfire Lady raced wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn Dane Opera was eased when tightened for room between Summer Gem and Sweetener which both shifted ground. On the latter part of the home turn until passing the 100m Sweetener was held up for clear running. Near the 100m Bon Vacance knuckled and lost its balance.
After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Sheza Single Girl had been galloped on the near hind leg. A post race veterinary examination of We Own An Angel revealed the filly to be significantly lame due to being galloped on the near hind leg and had also lost its near hind plate and the stable were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the filly racing again. On reviewing the video footage it was established that We Own An Angel shifted in marginally near the 800m when racing tight to the inside of Dane Opera and as a result Sweetener, which was racing greenly, appeared to have to be checked to avoid the heels of We Own An Angel which may have been the likely cause of the injury to We Own An Angel. Race 5 ESSENDON MAZDA 55 SECOND CHALLENGE HEAT 17-955 metres: Trainer Mr P Moody was fined $50 for presenting Dream Face to race without a tongue tie which is a part of the mare s declared gear. Honey Flower was a late withdrawal by order of Stewards at 7.40am. Lateva jumped away awkwardly. Shezzam was slow to being. Carry To Fortune raced three wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn D Holland, rider of Shezzam, dropped his whip. Near the 130m Lady Melksham was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of B Egan (Lateva). Race 6 SPORTINGBET ALISTER CLARK STAKES (Group 2) - 2040 metres: Every runner participating in this event underwent pre-race blood testing for post race analysis. M Rodd (Sheer Talent) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he permitted his mount to shift in thereby tightening the running of Hvasstan which was forced in across the rightful running of Bass Strait (NZ) which had to be checked severely. M Rodd had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight March 16 and to expire at midnight March 28, a total of fourteen race meetings (four city, ten country). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the careless riding was in the high range, Mr Rodd s guilty plea and forthright evidence, the fact that this is M Rodd s first suspension in almost twelve months. Also in this incident Gerontius was hampered as a consequence. A post race veterinary examination of Bass Strait (NZ) revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to its off hind fetlock and pastern.
Race 7 ADAPT AUSTRALIA ABELL STAKES (Listed) - 1200 metres: Every runner participating in this event underwent pre-race blood testing for post race analysis. After the running of Race 1 trainer Mr J McLean advised that Youbolt would be ridden quieter tonight from the wide barrier. Youbolt settled last and failed to make ground in the straight. Eight Bills and It Is Written both raced wide without cover throughout. On the point of the home turn Parthian, which was held up, attempted to shift out from behind Eight Bills and in doing so bumped It s Crunch Time which then made contact with Go The Knuckle which got unbalanced. Parthian then shifted back in to relieve the pressure. D Smith (Loveyamadly) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that at the top of the home straight he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of Utah Saints which had to be checked severely. In laying the charge Stewards concede there may have been some slight shift from It Is Written. D Smith had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight March 19 and to expire at midnight March 28, a total of eleven race meetings (four city, eleven country). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D Smith s guilty plea and recent record and the careless riding was in the mid-range. C Newitt, rider of Freereturn, advised that the gelding was not suited to racing inside other runners. Race 8 MITCHELTON WINES HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Prior to correct weight J Kissick rider of First Print, fifth placegetter, lodged an objection against Daybreak, fourth placegetter, alleging interference over the final 100m. On the evidence it was established that near the 50m First Print shifted in and bumped Daybreak, Daybreak then shifted out over the concluding stages taking First Print wider on the track. It was also noted in this incident that Cyclone Andy had to be eased to avoid the heels of First Print approaching the winning post. In these circumstances the Stewards could not justify an alteration to the placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared. Lord Durante was slow into stride. After passing the 1000m Magnus Reign had to be restrained off the heels of Reigning Lass and this resulted in Tycoon Rob (NZ), which was following, having to be checked to avoid that horse s heels. First Print in consequence had to be checked off the heels of Tycoon Rob (NZ), shifted out forcing Cyclone Andy wider on the track. Poitier raced three wide without cover. Cyclone Andy raced wide without cover from the 600m.
Lord Durante was unable to obtain clear running from the 400m until the finish and went to the line untested. On the point of the home turn First Print shifted out to improve its position and bumped Cyclone Andy which forced Littlebitaluck wider on the track. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Undercurrent was held up for clear running. Approaching the 100m Aussie Public, when weakening, had to be steadied off the heels of Daybreak which shifted in. M Rodd, rider of Reigning Lass, explained that in his opinion the mare did not appreciate today s track conditions and did not let down under pressure as expected.
