2 Page 2 Battle of the Schools By: Rebecca M. Fitch Bulldog News On Thursday, February 12, 2009, there was a basketball game called The Battle of the Schools at Olmsted Falls High School! This basketball game was not only a basketball game it was a basketball game where four schools battle against each other, Falls Lenox against Fitch, and the Middle School against the High School. Teachers played from all four schools! FITCH beat Falls Lenox, and went to the final battle; the HIGH SCHOOL won against the Middle School and also went to the championships! In between games people paid a dollar to take a shot on the court. For the final battle, all you had to do was get a bag of popcorn and a drink and you were set to watch the most intense basketball battle ever! Sadly, Fitch lost the final battle against the High School, but Fitch is very very very GREAT at Basketball!!!!!!!! WHOO HOO!!!!!! Mrs. Zbin organized Fitch s Hoops for Hearts activities. Students participated in Hoops for Heart to raise money for the American Heart Association. In February, 4 th and 5 th grade students came to Fitch and had fun! Some of Hoops for Hear t By: Michaela B. the events were tricks where they taught you how to spin the ball on your finger. We also played Bump which was a game of getting people out. You can do this by getting a basket before the person in front of you. Some stations took place in the gym and others took place in the hallways. Students who participated could have won some of these prizes: a water bottle, a Wii, a pogo stick and lots more. Journey to Play House Square By: Erika R. The fourth graders of Fitch Intermediate School went to Playhouse Square to see the play Mufaro s Beautiful Daughters. There were kids from almost every city around Cleveland. The play was great! There was singing and dancing. When the play was done, everyone clapped and cheered. In my opinion, I wanted it to go on all day. But it was almost time for lunch and if we stayed, we would probably miss the Valentine s Party. That day was fun for everyone.

5 History is fun, History is cool, History is a subject, You do in school. Poetry History By: Taylor H. Comic By: Emily There is Martin Luther King Jr; There is Abraham Lincoln, They all fought, For what they believed in. There is Amerigo Veccpucci, Magellan and Balboa, Christopher Columbus, (Who was kind of kooky.) History! History! It s so much fun. So take your seat, Because the fun has just begun. K-Kids Kids By: Taylor H. Book Review! By: Erika R. On Wednesday February 4, 2009 the K-KIDS made Valentine s Day door hangers for residents in the hospital. The door hangers said things like Happy Valentine s Day! or I love you on them. The patients, I m sure, will love all of them!! The Warriors series is a great series if you like mystery. It is mainly of cats and their problems with the other clans. The different clans are ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan. The author is Erin Hunter, but she actually is three people. The authors didn t want their readers to get mixed up, so they made up a name. In the books, you spend most of your time in ThunderClan. You spend your time learning about Rusty/ Firepaw/ Fireheart/ Firestar. The adventures that they have are thrilling because the authors show a lot of detail so you can have the best visual picture. There are over 20 books and a website. I would give this series 5 out of 5 in ratings.
6 Science Olympiad By: Zach B. This year, our school participated in the Elementary Science Olympiad at Cleveland State University. Science Olympiad is a science competition for kids in 4th-6th grade. The Olympiad consists of many different events relating to Science like Periodic Table, Anatomy, Metric Measurement, and lots of others. We studied for a long time for the Olympiad. We practiced before school, after school, and during recess. We were so excited when the day, February 21, 2009, finally came! We arrived at CSU by bus that Saturday. All of our team was together, including 6th graders, for the first time as we piled into the auditorium for the opening ceremony. After that we went back to our base where we relaxed before our events. During the day we all had our events. Then, the moment we all waited for, the science show and award ceremony! We all ran to the auditorium in excitement! The science show was really cool. There was this scientist who put Mentos in pop, and lots of other cool experiments. Then the award ceremony. We got first place in events like Bugs, Reflection Relay, and lots of others. The final award was the overall trophy! We got 4th place out of 24 schools all over Northeast Ohio!! Congratulations Science Olympiad Team!
