The Cakes are still in search of their first road victory of the season, having dropped all nine away from home. New Orleans has lost nine of its last 12 games at First Tennessee Park after winning 12 of its first 15 in the three-yearold stadium. YESTERDAY S NEWS Nashville scored three times in the tenth inning to defeat New Orleans 7-6 in the second game of the series. Sheldon Neuse tenth inning sacrifice fly brought home the game winning run. The Cakes rallied trailing 4-0 in the sixth innings to score four times, on five hits in the seventh. Eric Campbell hammered his first home run of the season. The Cakes scored a pair in the top of the tenth inning only to allow three in the bottom of tenth to drop their third extra inning contest of the season. The Cakes outhit the Sounds for the second consecuitive game 13-11 in the loss. ON THE HILL Opening Day starter Adam Conley will make his team-leading fifth start of the season this evening. He dropped his first three starts allowing 16 runs in his first three starts allowing 16 runs. In his last outing he worked five innings, spanning five innings in a loss against Colorado Springs. He has allowed 25 hits in 12.1 innings thus far. The 27-year-old split the 2017 season between NOLA and Miami making 20 starts with the Marlins and was 8-8 with a 6.14 ERA and 3-3 with a 5.49 ERA with the Cakes in a dozen starts. FOR STARTERS Baby Cakes starting pitchers have given up only five earned runs in 39.1 innings (1.14 ERA) over the last seven games and opponents are hitting.176 (25x142). Colorado Springs hit.173 (13x75) with one extra-base hit in four games against Cakes starters, and the Dodgers were 9x46 (.196) in two games before Ben Meyer limited Nashville to three hits in 21 at-bats last night. JOHNNY G Johnny Giavotella has reached base safely in each of his first six games with the Baby Cakes, going 3x15 with six walks and an RBI double. He is playing on the same field where he helped Jesuit High School win the 2005 Louisiana state championship. Giavotella went on to earn All-American honors in his three seasons at the University of New Orleans before being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round in 2008. In 27 pro games at the Shrine, Giavotella is batting.337 (33x98) with eight doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI. BULLIED Over the last 15 games, the New Orleans bullpen owns a 5.98 ERA (37 ER/55.2 IP) and has allowed a home run in eight of those contests (nine total) while opponents have batted.314 (72x229). The relief corps is 2-7 during that stretch, during which the pen has suffered four blown saves, including three by James Buckelew. The five blown saves overall are tied with Memphis for second-most in the PCL (Oklahoma City, 6). NOLA S NOLA Austin Nola is riding a five-game hit streak, going 7x18 with two doubles and two RBI. Dating back to last season, Nola is batting.409 (9x22) over his last six road contests. LHP Adam Conley (0-3, 13.14) vs. RHP James Naile (3-1, 1.19)! " # $ $$ 2016: The Z s drop the series finale against Nashville, 7-6, on Chad Pinder s walkoff RBI-double. The loss marks the Z s 200th loss to the Sounds, marking the second team New Orleans has accumulated 200 losses against (Oklahoma City). ROCKY ROAD New Orleans has dropped its first nine road games for the first time in franchise history; the longest previous streak was three in a row (2006 at Albuquerque and 2011 at Nashville). Their 0-7 road trip to open the year was just the fourth time ever the team went winless on a road trip of at least six games, joining a 0-8 trek through Oklahoma City and Colorado Springs from April 28-May 4, 1999 and each of its last two visits through Sacramento and Fresno, going 0-8 in both 2015 and 2017. The winless trip through California last year marked the tail end of a club-record 13-game road drought from July 13-August 1, surpassing the 12 in a row from April 28-May 17, 1999. SIR ISAAC Isaac Galloway s stolen base last night was the 56th of his New Orleans career; only Colin Porter, who swiped 61 bags from 2001-03, has more steals in a New Orleans uniform. He has six stolen bases this season, and is tied for third in the PCL. Galloway has three hits in his last seven at bats after snapping a 0x17 skid during which he had struck out eight times. SLYKE FATHER, SLYKE SON Scott Van Slyke ranks sixth in the PCL with a.449 on-base percentage. Van Slyke leads the club in batting average (.321) and walks (12) and and is tied for the team lead in doubles (3) and home runs (2). RISPY BUSINESS New Orleans had five hits in eleven at bats last night with runners on base. The Cakes are hitting a PCL-worst.231 (40x173) with runners in scoring position through the first 20 games. New Orleans ranked last in the league in each of the last two years, batting.250 with RISP in 2017, and.257 in 2016. JUMBO-LAYA Jumbo Diaz has converted each of his three save opportunities, putting him in a four-way tie for second place in the PCL, while the rest of the Cakes bullpen has gone 2x7. Diaz has surrendered one hit in 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position. STEAL AWAY The Baby Cakes are third in the PCL with 17 stolen bases and have been caught only four times, the fourth-best success rate in the league (80.9%). Isaac Galloway is third in the PCL with six steals. A LONG ROAD HOME New Orleans has surrendered at least seven runs in seven of nine games on the road, posting a 6.25 ERA (53 ER/76.1 IP) while opponents have batted.329. The staff owns a 2.64 ERA (35 ER/ 99.0 IP) in 11 home games and has limited the opposition to a.224 mark. FAMILIAR RELATIONS The Cakes are playing all but one game in April against the same three opponents. NOLA is in the midst of playing 14 straight games against Colorado Springs and Oklahoma City, around a pair of five-game sets against Nashville. NAWLINS NOTES New Orleans is the only team in Minor League Baseball without a road victory... The Cakes have lost all three extra inning games, and lost five times on walk-off s, six total a year ago. NOLA has clinched its eighth non-winning April in the last 10 seasons... The Cakes have struck out at least 10 times in five of last seven games, totaling 73 punchouts in that span... His only previous Opening Day start came in his first full pro season in 2012 with Low-A Greensboro, when he fired 5.0 scoreless innings and fanned seven in a win over Lexington. c d e f g l m n o g p i i i q W-L ERA G IP H R ER BB K 0-3 13.14 4 12.1 25 18 18 9 11 ROCKY START Conley worked a combined 7.1 innings over his first three starts and allowed 16 runs on 20 hits (19.64 ERA). His 1.2 IP against Colorado Springs on 4/10 marked the third time in his last four starts, dating to September 2017 with Miami, that Conley did make it out of the second inning. Š ˆ Œ Š APRIL SHOWERS After a season-opening win against the Mets on 4/8, Conley surrendered 21 runs (18 earned) in 10.2 innings across his final three starts with Miami as his ERA ballooned from 3.00 to 7.53. He was optioned to New Orleans following his 5/8 defeat vs. St. Louis. IN NOLA In his first Triple-A start since July 28, 2015, Conley took the loss on 5/15 vs. Salt Lake after yielding three runs on three hits in 4.1 innings with four walks and four strikeouts. He was locked in a 1-1 game until the fifth when the Bees scored five times, with two of the runs being charged to Conley. NO FLY ZONE Dating back to his 2015 season with New Orleans, Conley had gone 17 consecutive Triple-A starts without allowing a home run until Round Rock s Will Middlebrooks went deep on 6/1. It snapped a streak of 96.0 innings without a homer, since Memphis Ed Easley on May 9, 2015. WIN COLUMN Conley picked up his first win in five starts with the Baby Cakes on 6/6 vs. Memphis, holding the Redbirds to two runs and three hits over 7.0 innings. He did not surrender a hit after backto-back doubles in the third inning, remaining undefeated in seven games in the month of June with NOLA dating back to 2015, posting a 2.06 ERA (9 ER/39.1 IP) and.167 average against (23x137). WILD ONE On 6/22, Conley lasted only 2.2 IP, his shortest start since going one inning prior to a rain delay in his 2016 season debut with Miami. Conley also tossed three wild pitches for the first time in his career, the most by a New Orleans pitcher in nearly two years, a number he would match on 7/7 vs. Oklahoma City. HEATING UP Conley opened July with back-to-back victories in quality starts on 7/2 at Memphis and 7/7 vs. Oklahoma City. He surrendered a combined three runs on nine hits with 13 strikeouts in 13.0 innings, including a season-high eight punchouts of the Dodgers. BACK IN THE BIGS Upon being recalled on 7/18, Conley went 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA (4 ER/20.2 IP) in his first three starts. He set a new career high with 11 strikeouts in defeating the Mets on 8/20 after going without a punchout in 6.1 innings vs. San Francisco on 8/14, becoming the first pitcher since the Cardinals Joe Magrane in 1990 to fan more than 10 immediately following a i game } in which he went at least 6.0 strikeout-free innings. ~ ~ i } g o i y o g c d e f r n s r g t m j u g p i i i q Home Games: 0-2, 10.13 ERA Away Games: 0-1, 18.69 ERA Day Games: 0-0, 16.87 ERA Night Games: 0-3, 12.10 ERA vs. Left-handers:.417 (5x12), 0 HR, 1 BB, 4 K vs. Right-handers:.408 (20x49), 4 HR, 8 BB, 7 K April: 0-3, 13.14 ERA May: -- June: -- July: -- August/September: -- m i g o o n v h p w w w q Innings: 5.0 4/23 vs. Colorado Springs Most Hits Allowed: 8 4/15 at Oklahoma City Least Hits Allowed: 5 4/10 at COS and 4/20 vs. COS Most Runs Allowed: 7 4/5 vs. Nashville Least Runs Allowed: 2 4/20 vs. Colorado Springs Strikeouts: 4 4/5 vs. Nashville Walks: 3 4/15 at Oklahoma City Homers Allowed: 2 4/5 vs. Nashville Winning Streak: -- Losing Streak: L3 4/5 - current Shortest Start: 1.2 4/10 at Colorado Springs Pitches Thrown: 87 4/20 vs. Colorado Springs Win: Loss: Quality Start: Complete Game: Shutout: 7/7/17 vs. Oklahoma City 4/20/18 vs. Colorado Springs 7/7/17 vs. Oklahoma City 7/5/15 vs. Iowa 7/5/15 vs. Iowa j l l j k h k o i y h h y z g W-L ERA G IP H R ER BB K 0-2 6.46 5 23.2 28 17 17 15 13 DATE OPP.
