July - August 2016 Rockin' Times Hotline 773.467.0177 * E-mail: cwcjc@jitterbugchicago.com * Website: www.jitterbugchicago.com Joanne Kokalj President Well another Sweet Home Chicago is now just a great memory; if you attended this year then I don t even have to tell you what a great party it was. For those of you who did not attend at least one of the days, then you missed out on a really fun event, not to mention supporting our club. The ticket price was $80, which is very reasonable for all that you get. We have had guests tell us that we could easily charge more for all that we put into this weekend great music and workshops, lots of food, entertainment, a beautiful ballroom, a very nice hotel. You cannot go anywhere and get all of this over a weekend, so don t miss out next year. Sweet Home Chicago is one of the best, well-run and classy events around. We received so much positive feed back about the weekend; many people told us that it was the best one ever. Things went smoothly from the board s stand point, although like anything there were a few glitches here and there that we will address for next year. So, mark your calendars for next year, June 29, 30th and July 1st, we will be back at the Westin for our 17th annual dance party. Financial information about Sweet Home Chicago will be provided in a future newsletter. Right now I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help us over the weekend. As I have said before, there is a lot of work involved in running a three day event, so we sincerely appreciate all of our volunteers. I also want to thank the entire board for all of the many, many hours that they put into this event. We start working on our dance party months before the day actually arrives, and work many, many hours while we are there. Thank you also to several people who go above and beyond every year for our party. Mike and Debbe Lapina, Gloria Medel, Vicky and Joe Konewko and Ralph Dahma. I also want to thank Sue Hosek for the book she put together to help people find restaurants and things to do in the Itasca area. And finally to all of you who came to Sweet Home Chicago this year, thank you for supporting our club s weekend event, I hope you enjoyed it and had a great time. Coming up on July 16th is our annual open board meeting. This is the time for you to come and ask questions or make suggestions. Remember, if it hasn t appeared in the newsletter or hasn t been announced at a dance or sent out on constant contact, than it is a rumor. People sometimes like to think they are in the know and that is how rumors get started. So come on out to the meeting and hear it directly from the people that do know. Mark your calendar for August 20th this is our oldies night with Mike Hartman, one of our biggest dances of the year. Enjoy the rest of summer! See you at the dance, Joanne

RETURNED CHECK POLICY There will be a $20.00 service fee for any returned checks to the club. MAY 2016 RECAP April 30, 2016 ending balances - Checking Account $18,935.36, Money Market Account $12,656.36. The Baseball Dance had a profit of $129.92 and the Swing into Spring Dance had a profit of $129.30. Discussed: Discussed the SHC volunteer sheets and vendors. Confirmed having an Evening Snack instead of the Late Night Buffet and what will be served. Discussed our SHC Hospitality. Discussed the rising costs at the Chevy Chase Country Club. A discussion of having a picnic again was brought up. Voted to begin giving away dance passes instead of a bottle of champagne at our dances at the ALH. Cash Raffle tickets are going well. Constant Contact, Facebook, SHC advertising and emails were discussed. JUNE 2016 RECAP May 31, 2016 ending balances - Checking Account $24,328.45, Money Market Account $12,656.58. The SHC Convention expenditures still need to paid. Discussed: Acknowledged the one-year re-election of the positions of Secretary, Volunteer/Hospitality and Technical Director. Regarding SHC, we did discuss the problem of not having enough rooms available at the Westin for Saturday night, July 2nd. The Hyatt Place does have rooms and we will make this information available. Discussed doing something different this year by having dance cards and then have a drawing. Discussed a way to honor Gary Chaney by playing one of his favorite songs and have the members of the ABA Hall of Fame start a snowball dance. At this time, we would also acknowledge Gloria Medel receiving this year s George Baer Award. Verified the compensation we will give to the DJs at this year s SHC Convention. Susan Hosek volunteered to prepare a book of things to do and places to eat. She will have this available at SHC. Confirmed everything that would need to be done for our Hospitality at SHC. Making sure there will be enough power in the ballroom this year. Went over the SHC volunteer sheets and there was still a need for 50/50 volunteers. The Cash Raffle is going well. Constant Contact, Facebook are good and the final SHC email to the out-of-towners will be sent. At the ALH, if the speakers are not placed on the stands, it seems as if the music does not carry to the back of the room. This will be discussed further.
