The Baby Cakes look to win their second series in a rowthe Cakes dropped three of four meetings last year at the Shrine, but swept a four-game set in their last visit to Sin City, August 12-15, 2016. YESTERDAY S NEWS The Baby Cakes offense erupted on Wednesday evening in Las Vegas piling up season highs in runs, hits, doubles, and triples in a 16-4 victory over Las Vegas 51s. The Cakes scored runs in each of the first four innings, capped by a season-high eight run fourth inning to give New Orleans a 16-1 advantage. New Orleans starter Pablo Lopez impressed in his Triple-A debut, he worked six innings allowed three runs on six hits in a victory. The Cakes got a big offensive day from former Las Vegas infielder Eric Campbell, he picked up four hits and four RBI. The Cakes matched their season high in runs with 16, finished with a season high 20 hits, eight doubles and three triples in the game. ON THE HILL Jarlin Garcia makes his first career start for the New Orleans Baby Cakes, after a solid start to the season with the Marlins. The left-handed pitcher held a 4.41 ERA (25 ER/51.0 IP) in 12 appearances (six starts) for the Cakes big league affiliate. Garcia s last start came in a loss against the Chicago Cubs on May 7th at Wrigley, where he yielded seven earned runs on three homeruns in 4.0 innings pitched. Prior to that start, Garcia held a 1.09 ERA (3 ER/33.0 IP) in six appearances, before going on to give up 22 earned runs over his final six appearances with the Marlins. FAREWELL TO CASHMAN FIELD - This is the final trip to Cashman Field, where New Orleans owns a 27-26 all-time record, and was the site of the 1998 Triple-A World Series win over Buffalo to clinch the city s first professional championship. The Baby Cakes have yet to duplicate the success they had in the 1998 season. HOT SOUP Over his last 34 games, dating to April 26, Eric Campbell is batting.369, third-best in the PCL in that span, while his.457 on-base percentage trails only Sacramento s Austin Slater (.462). Campbell now has a team-leading 36 RBI on the season, after driving in four RBI for the second time last night. In 269 games with Las Vegas over parts of four seasons, Campbell batted.322 (289x897). Campbell is 10th in the PCL in batting average, at.323 (52x161). DEAN OF HITS Austin Dean added another hit yesterday making his average.308 in Triple A, and has 7 hits in his last 22 at bats spanning five games. Dean was hitting.420 (34x81) in 22 games with AA Jacksonville and was named April s Southern League Player of the Month after pacing the circuit in batting average, hits, total bases (53), slugging percentage (.654) and OPS (1.120). His.353 overall batting average places 11th in all of MiLB, and he is hitting.345 (19x55) in 14 games since moving into the leadoff spot. HITS, HITS, & MORE HITS - The Baby Cakes recorded 20 hits last night, the most since May 8, 2015 at Memphis. All of the starters had hits and six of the nine had multi-hit efforts. Both Eric Campbell and Cristhian Adames tied the Baby Cake season-high tally with four hits each, while Magneuris Sierra and Cito Culver both recorded three hits against the 51s pitching staff. LHP Jarlin Garcia (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Cody Martin (0-1, 5.40)! " # # # 2008: A fielding error by Oklahoma first baseman Chris Davis allows the winning run to score in the bottom of the 10th of the Zephyrs 3-2 win. With one out and the bases loaded, Jose Valentin s chopper up the first base line gets past Davis, allowing Anderson Machado to score the winning ng run. DOUBLES GALORE - Cristhian Adames hit three doubles, the first time a Cakes player has done so since Matt Dominguez smacked three doubles at Nashville on April 12, 2012. Adames now has 11 on the season, tied with Isaac Galloway for the team lead. The Baby Cakes also recorded eight doubles as a team, tying the Baby Cakes single game record. MAGNIFICENT MAGGY Magneuris Sierra collected two extra-base hits last night (a double and a triple) and has a hit in seven consecuitve games, his longest hit streak of the season. Over his last 14 starts, Sierra is batting.344 (20x58), and his three-hit effort last night was his 17th multi-hit game, good for the team lead. ARMS RACE Over the last nine games, Baby Cakes starting pitchers own a 3.33 ERA (19 ER/51.1 IP) and have seven quality starts in that span, with only Dillon Peters falling shy in both of his starts.
