FISH BITES The Marlins open a 10-day, nine-game road trip tonight with the first of three in Baltimore against the Orioles. Right-hander José Ureña will get the start for Miami. He has never faced the Orioles; he is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA (49.1 ip/20 er) in 14 Interleague appearances, including seven starts (4-2, 4.08 ERA). The O's will counter with right-hander Kevin Gausman, who is making his first career start against Miami. The Marlins are on the road after concluding a 4-3 homestand against the Padres (1-2) and Giants (3-1) yesterday. They also make stops in San Francisco (June 18-20) and Colorado (June 22-24) on this trip. YESTERDAY'S RECAP Miami rallied from a deficit for the third straight game, but unlike the previous two days was unable to get over the hump in a 6-3, 16-inning loss to the Giants at Marlins Park. The Marlins trailed, 3-0, after two frames, but chipped away at San Fran's lead on a solo homer by JT Riddle (1x4) in the fifth and an RBI single by Bryan Holaday (2x7) in the seventh. Lewis Brinson (2x6) tied the game with a sac fly in the ninth, and that would be the last of the scoring for quite some time. It took seven more innings before the G-Men broke through with a three-run rally to put the game away and avoid a four-game sweep. JB Shuck led the offense with a 4x7 day, equaling a career-best with two doubles. Miami's bullpen shut down the Giants for 10.0 innings before Elieser Hernandez, who posted a career-long relief outing of 5.0 innings, was touched for the winning runs. It was Miami's third game of 13-plus innings this season, tied with the Cubs, Cleveland, and St. Louis for the most in the Majors, according to Stats LLC. TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today transferred LHP Chris O Grady to the 60-day disabled list, placed LHP Caleb Smith on the bereavement list, optioned Ben Meyer to Triple-A New Orleans, recalled Merandy Gonzalez from Double-A Jacksonville, and returned from rehab and reinstated Brett Graves (#53) from the 60-day disabled list (left oblique strain). Graves' first appearance will be his Major League debut; he was selected by Miami from Oakland in the second round of the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft last winter. VS. BALTIMORE The Marlins and Orioles are facing off for the first time since Miami took a three-game set, 2-1, at Marlins Park from May 22-24, 2015. Miami has a 20-7 lead in the all-time series. Miami's.741 winning percentage against the O's is the fourth-best of any Interleague match-up, lower only to the White Sox over Cincinnati (.800; 16-4), Detroit over the Cubs (.762; 16-5), and San Diego over Minnesota (.750; 15-5). - Stats LLC STRETCH ARMSTRONG The Marlins are in a stretch that will see them play 49 games in 52 days from May 25 to the All-Star Break. They are 7-13 thus far, winning three of their last four and six-of-10. LIFE ON THE ROAD Miami is 26 games into a stretch in which the club will play 25-of-35 games on the road between May 18 and June 24, the end of this road trip. The Marlins are currently 10-16 overall during the stretch, and 6-10 away from South Florida. By the end of the current road trip, Miami will have played 55.1 percent (43-of-78) of its games on the road, third most in the Majors. Only Tampa Bay (55.8; 43-of-77) and Baltimore (55.3; 42-of-76) will have played a higher percentage away from home by June 24. - Stats LLC Also by the end of this trip, Miami will have traveled 22,063 miles. Only Boston (22,803) and Seattle (22,336) will have traveled farther through June 24. - Stats LLC Miami wraps up its road schedule at NL West ball parks when it closes out this road trip at Colorado next weekend. Of the 10 Eastern division teams in either league, only Boston will finish its west coast trips faster, wrapping up in Seattle on June 17. Philadelphia and Toronto (10 each) will have the most remaining after June 24, while Washington and Tampa (three each) will have the fewest. #KEEPINITREALMUTO Since coming back from the 10-day disabled list on April 17, J.T. Realmuto leads all Major League catchers in hits (56), runs (30), doubles (13), batting average (.303), on-base percentage (.368), and slugging percentage (.519), and is tied for the lead in triples (3). PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK Bryan Holaday, who posted his first multi-hit game of the season yesterday against San Francisco, also threw out his ninth consecutive runner attempting to steal a base when he caught Mac Williamson attempting to steal second base to end the fourth. It extended Holaday's Club record for consecutive baserunners caught stealing, and is the longest streak in the Majors since Miguel Montero also threw out nine straight in 2011. The last catcher to throw out 10+ consecutive runners was Jose Molina, who had a streak of 11 in 2008. - Stats LLC RUMBLE YOUNG MAN RUMBLE Brian Anderson has appeared in all 69 games for the Marlins this season - the only rookie to appear in each of his team's games in 2018. Anderson leads all qualified Major League rookies in games, at-bats (260), average (.304), runs (39), hits (79), multi-hit games (23), and on-base percentage (.379); ranks second in walks (26), doubles (18), and slugging percentage (.435); is tied for second in RBI (33); and is tied for third in triples (2). Leads all National League players 25-younger in hits, in front of Ozzie Albies (75). He has recorded four outfield assists in just 40 games played in right field, leading all rookie outfielders in assists. The four assists are the most by a Marlins rookie since Marcell Ozuna (8) and Jake Marisnick (5) in 2013. Is on pace to record 112 hits before the All-Star Break, which would be the most ever recorded by a Marlins rookie and would be the third-most by any Major League rookie since 2000 (Ichiro-133 in 2001; Hideki Matsui-114 in 2003). Alex Gonzalez currently holds the Franchise record with 99 in 1999, while Gaby Sanchez ranks second with 95 in 2010. He is also on pace to record 47 first-half RBI, which would tie Bruce Aven (1999) and Mike Jacobs (2006) for the second-most by a Marlins rookie, behind Dan Uggla (51 in 2006) INTERLEAGUE NOTABLES The Marlins own the third-most wins (185) all-time in Interleague Play among National League clubs, behind Washington (192) and the Mets (187), and they have the sixth-best winning percentage (.495; 185-189), behind the Mets (.507; 187-182), St. Louis (.506; 174-170), Atlanta (.497; 181-183), the Cubs (.497; 170-172), and Washington (.496; 192-195). Miami's offense is the all-time leader among NL clubs in Interleague runs (1,726), hits (3,392), doubles (677), and RBI (1,637). It will be his first career start against the O s. He is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA (49.1 ip/20 er) in 14 career Interleague games (seven starts). In the starts, he has gone 4-2 with a 4.08 ERA (39.2/18), and as a reliever is 0-0, 1.86 (9.2/2). Over his last five Interleague starts, is 4-0 with a 4.82 ERA (28.0/15). In three career starts at AL venues, he is 2-1 with a 7.31 ERA (16.0/13). Has won each of last two starts (5/23/17 at OAK & 7/26/17 at TEX) despite allowing 11 runs combined (6/5) over 10.0 innings. It snapped a skid of 14 consecutive team losses in his starts, dating back to September 26, 2017, the longest streak in Club history. Picked up the win despite allowing a season-high 10 hits, and surrendering four runs. Allowed four runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out three, over 5.0 innings. On April 3, held Boston to one run on four hits over 7.0 innings.
