MARLINS MINUTE Miami is playing the second game of this three-game series at the Mets, their final series of 2018. Were swept in Washington on the first leg of this final road trip of the season, Monday-Wednesday. Miami is finishing up a 2018 campaign that saw them play the sixth-hardest schedule in the Majors, with opponents combining on a.512 winning percentage. Baltimore played the toughest (.529), followed by Texas (.520), Cincinnati (.515), San Diego (.515), and the Angels (.514). Trevor Richards is making his 25th start of the season tonight. Is making his second start against the Mets. Allowed six runs in 5.0 ip on September 12 at Citi Field. Will oppose LHP Steven Matz, who has gone 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA in seven career starts vs. Miami. Is undefeated in his last four starts against the Marlins. YESTERDAY'S RECAP The Marlins defeated the Mets, 8-1, in the series opener. José Ureña held the Mets to just one run in 6.0 ip for his fifth straight victory. SS Miguel Rojas tied his career high with four hits (third time). 1B Peter O'Brien (2x5) collected his third multi-hit game in his last four contests and scored twice. 3B Brian Anderson (2x3) reached base four times and extended his hitting streak to a season high-tying seven games. JOSÉ'S HOT HAND With last night's win, José Ureña went undefeated in his last seven starts of the season, dating back to August 19. Went 6-0 with a 1.80 ERA (45.0 ip/9 er) and 26 strikeouts, holding opponents to a.176 batting average over the stretch. Among Major League starters (min. 37.0 ip), his ERA is tied for sixth-lowest since Aug. 19. Finished September 5-0 with a 1.20 ERA (30.0/4). Became the fourth Marlins pitcher to win five games in the month of September, joining Pat Rapp in 1995 (5-0), Aníbal Sánchez in 2006 (5-1), and Javier Vásquez in 2011 (5-0). His six-game winning streak to close the year is his longest career winning streak and the longest by a Marlins pitcher since José Fernández won eight straight from April 28-June 5, 2016. It is tied for the third-longest active streak in the NL. Went 9-5 with a 3.70 ERA (116.2/48) over his final 21 starts of the season after opening the year 0-7 with a 4.55 ERA (57.1/29) over his first 10 starts. OH BOY, O'BRIEN! Hialeah, Fla., native Peter O'Brien has reached base safely in 13 of his last 15 games, with hits in 10 of the contests. Has posted a.340 batting average (16x47) with four doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI and six walks over the 15-game span since September 13. His.586 slugging percentage in September is ninth highest in the National League. ALL AROUND ANDY Brian Anderson leads all Major League rookies in games (155), at-bats (585), runs (87), on-base percentage (.359), and average with RISP (.367); ranks second in hits (161), doubles (34), walks (62) and multi-hit games (46); ranks third in average (.275) and slugging (.403); ranks tied for fourth in triples (4); and ranks fifth in RBI (65). His 161 hits are the most by a Marlins rookie since Chris Coghlan in 2009 (162) and are tied with Mark Kotsay (1998) for the fourth most ever by a Marlins rookie. Only Hanley Ramirez (185 in 2006), Jeff Conine (174 in 1993) and Dan Uggla (172 in 2006) had more hits in their rookie season with the Club. His 87 runs are the third-most all time among Marlins rookies behind Hanley Ramirez (119 in 2006) and Dan Uggla (105 in 2006); His average with RISP is currently tied with Kevin Millar (.367 in 1999) as the second-best by a Marlins rookie in Club history, behind Miguel Cabrera (.375; 2003). AGAINST THE METS Miami is returning to Citi Field for the second time in the last two weeks for this three-game series to close out the season. Miami is 7-10 vs. the Mets this season, but have gone 7-6 after the starting the year 0-4. Are 4-4 in Queens, taking two of three May 21-23 and dropping three of four Sept. 11-13. Are looking to win the road season series for the second straight year (went 5-4 at Citi Field in 2017). BOSTON BIRTHPLACE AVISTON, IL BORN MAY 15, 1993 OPENING DAY AGE 24 CONTRACT STATUS SIGNED THROUGH 2018 ACQUIRED SIGNED AS MINOR LEAGUE FREE AGENT ON JULY 2, 2016 Trevor Richards will make his 25th and final start of the season for Miami in game two of this three-game set against the Mets. On the season, has posted 4-9 record and 4.66 ERA (119.2 ip/62 er) with Miami. Has also made six starts at Triple-A New Orleans, going 3-2 with a 2.06 ERA (39.1/9). Has established professional single-season highs in appearances (30), starts (30), innings pitched (159.0), and strikeouts (159). He previously had 146.0 innings last season between Single-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville. From June 23 to August 8, allowed 15 total runs over 48.0 innings pitched in nine starts for a 2.81 ERA. Has allowed 26 runs over his last seven starts covering 33.2 innings. From July 8 to August 8, recorded six straight starts with four-or-fewer hits allowed. It tied the second-longest such streak in Marlins history, behind a stretch of eight consecutive games by Dan Straily from April 11-May 20, 2017. In last start, September 23 vs. Cincinnati, tossed 7.0 shutout innings with three hits allowed, one walk and nine strikeouts. Over three previous starts, had surrendered 16 runs (14 earned) and 16 hits over 11.1 innings pitched. The 7.0 innings equaled the longest start of his Major League career, as he tossed 7.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed, one walk, and two strikeouts in third career start, April 14 vs. Pittsburgh. On August 22 vs. the Yankees, did not receive a decision despite allowing just two runs on three hits and three walks (one intentional), with nine strikeouts, over 5.1 innings. On August 14 at Atlanta, surrendered five runs on a season high 10 hits and two walks, with three strikeouts, over 4.1 innings. Prior to that start, had made six consecutive starts with four-or-fewer hits allowed (22 total). Went 2-0 with 0.75 ERA (12.0 ip/1 er) in four Spring appearances (two starts) with Miami. Had contract selected on April 2 and made his Major League debut that night against Boston. He went 0-2 with a 4.94 ERA (23.2/13) across five starts in his first stint with the Marlins. Tossed 7.0 shutout innings with just two hits allowed on April 14 vs. Pittsburgh, and tossed 4.2 shutout innings, with a career-high 10 strikeouts, on April 25 at the Dodgers, his final start before being optioned back to NOLA. In the Pittsburgh start, became the first Marlins rookie starter to work at least 7.0 innings and allow two or fewer hits since Justin Nicolino on September 26, 2015 vs. Atlanta (7.0 ip, 2 h). He became just the 15th pitcher in Club history to do so (22nd time).
