In September each year the band progresses from learners to performers. We ease in with home game performances but eventually put the show on the road and perform at various local invitational band competitions. For the Marching Giants to be successful, our rehearsal process must be strictly adhered too and performance expectations must be raised. In short: To reach the next level as a band we must increase the intensity and desire to be the best at practice. Expect more from yourself and others. Make sure your music is all memorized and prepared, you must fully understand your visual responsibilities, and you must move in a way that exhibits a high level of training. The staff and upperclassmen expect more from you in September. Buckle down and work out the fine details quickly in rehearsals. Let s see how far we can take our show this season!! 10 Sat Mini Camp 9a-5p 5:30 Picnic/Bonfire/ Games

Instructions located on: giantbands.com Page 4 B E N D A V I S I N V I T A T I O N A L The Ben Davis Band Invitational will take place on October 1st, 2016. At trophy presentation time, we are proud to present trophies to our winning groups based on their performances. It has been a long-standing tradition that these trophies are sponsored by either businesses or individuals (many times as a tribute). Trophy sponsorship cost $30 per trophy. If you know of a business that is interested in sponsoring a trophy (or if you are interested in sponsoring one as an individual or family), please let Mr. Cole at 988-7198 know immediately. These sponsorships help to defray the cost of the trophies and allow individuals and businesses to be recognized in the program and over the PA at trophy presentation time. Specific trophies (i.e. Class D Best Percussion) may be requested and we will do our best to grant those requests. Marching Giants Opening Contests Set The Marching Giants will open the competitive season at Concord High School on September 17th then at Greenwood High School & Avon High School on September 24th. We then host a large invitational at Ben Davis on October 1st. We count on our fans and families to be at the shows in mass to cheer us on! DONATIONS NEEDED The band is in need of bottled water donations so it can be available at practice, games, and performances. If you can help out by donating a case of water, it would be truly appreciated. We are also in need of spray on sun screen and quart size zip lock freezer bags for ice packs in the tunnel. If anyone would like to send in a donation, please drop it by the band office. There has been a very positive desire for individual improvement developing within the Marching Giants this season. So much so that we have decided to set aside time for leaders to work with their sections or individuals if they so choose. Wednesday Night 6:45-7:30 will now be referred to as Remediation Night. That will be a regular time when students can stay looking for extra help, a leader can call a voluntary sectional, or staff can address individual needs of members. These Wednesday sessions will be volunteer in nature. If you plan to stay, the expectation is that you are working. Otherwise, please plan to go home at 6:30. Individual Practice Day The band room will be open on Mondays each week through-out the year after school until 5:30 for kids to practice individually. This means alone. Please do not view this as an opportunity for more social time. However, Mr. Cole will be here until 5:30 every Monday for your practice needs. Study Tables If you are staying after school waiting for practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you are expected to remain in the band room and study.
