Game #48 (16-31) Away Game #29 (12-16) RHP Kyle Hansen (0-1, 7.88) vs. LHP Colin Rodgers (3-2, 2.48) Tonight s Preview: One day after allowing a cycle for the first time in franchise history, the Intimidators (A, White Sox) look to snap the team s most recent three-game losing streak in Game 2 of a 3-game series against the Legends (A, Royals) at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. It s the fifth losing streak of at least three games Kannapolis has endured this season. Kannapolis is 13.0 games back of first-place Hagerstown with 20 games left in the first half, seventh in the SAL Northern Division standings. Lexington is 5.5 games back in the Southern Division, sixth in the standings. The Legends are won all four contests against Kannapolis this season. Intimidating Starter: Kyle Hansen, 22, makes his fourth start of the season on the heels of his first career quality start. He struck out a career-high seven batters over a career-long 6.0 innings allowing a run on five hits at Hickory on May 23. The 6 8 right-hander joined the Intimidators on May 5 from Extended Spring, making his first appearance out of the bullpen May 6 against Greensboro, recording a six-out save while striking out four over 2.0 hitless innings. The White Sox picked Hansen in the sixth round of the June 2012 draft out of St. John s University in Queens, NY where he was a First-Team All-Big East selection as a sophomore and a Second-Team All-American by Baseball America in 2010. He led St. Dominic High School (Oyster Bay, NY) to their first state championship as a senior and was twice named First-Team All-State. Hansen is the younger brother of Boston s 2005 first-round pick Craig Hansen, who pitched in the Major Leagues with the Red Sox and Pirates from 2005-09, going 4-9 with a 6.32 ERA in 95 relief appearances. Craig is currently in the Mets system. Legendary Starter: Colin Rodgers, 19, makes his ninth start of the season and first against the Intimidators. He is coming off a loss against Asheville on May 22, allowing two runs over 4.0 innings. The Royals farmhand is 2-1 with a 1.33 ERA (3 ER/20.1 IP) in four starts during the month of May. Baseball America rated Rodgers the No. 25 Prospect in the Royals farm system entering this season after he going 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 11 starts with Advanced Rookie Burlington in his professional debut. Kansas City selected Rodgers in the third round out of high school in the June 2012 draft. According to BA, his calling cards are guile and deception. He rarely throws back-to-back fastballs at the same velocity. About Last Night: Raul Mondesi hit for the cycle, going 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Legends in a 7-4 win over the Intimidators on Monday. Kannapolis starter Brandon Brennan suffered his league-leading eighth loss and sixth straight, allowing five runs over 5.0 innings while striking out five. Legends starter Christian Binford worked 7.0 strong innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out six. Mondesi Cycles: Lexington s Raul Mondesi is the first player to hit for the cycle against the Piedmont/Kannapolis franchise, dating back to 1995. Mondesi, the No. 5 Prospect in Kansas City s organization and the son of the 1994 NL Rookie of the Year by the same name, tripled in the first inning, homered in the third, stretched for an infield single in the fifth and doubled down the line in the sixth to complete the feat, finishing 4-4 on the night. The 17-year-old stand out has now hit three home runs over his last two games. The Piedmont/Kannapolis franchise boasts three cycles in team history, with the most recent taking place July 15, 2012, when Bill Rice hit for the cycle in Greensboro. Kiss It Goodbye: Micah Johnson launched his second home run in as many games and his third of the season, a two-run shot to tie the game 4-4 in the fifth inning on Monday in Lexington. Johnson now has seven career home runs, hitting three last season with Advanced Rookie Great Falls. Two of his three home runs this season have been game-tying shots. Runner Like No Other: Micah Johnson leads all Minor League Baseball with 45 stolen bases this season. He is batting.318, 10th best in the SAL. He crossed the plate on Monday for his league-leading 46th run scored third-most in the Minors, and his five triples lead the circuit. Mashing in May: Michael Johnson went 2-4 on Monday to bounce back from Sunday s 0-5 performance, upping his average to.320 (40-125), ninth best in the SAL. During the month of May, he ranks fourth in Minor League Baseball in on-base percentage (.505) and eighth in average (.397), including seven-game and 10-game hitting streaks this month. Cose Coasts: Jake Cose thrived Friday with a career-high 13 strikeouts over 6.0 innings against Hickory. His previous came Aug. 26, 2012, when he fanned 11 over 7.0 innings for the Advanced Rookie Bristol White Sox against Burlington, his last Appalachian League start before earning a late-season promotion to Kannapolis. Cose made his team-leading fourth quality start Friday, allowing three runs on five hits over 6.0 innings. His ERA (1.95) ranks third in the league, and he is now tied for fourth in the SAL in strikeouts (59). Cose also ranks fourth on the circuit among starters in highest strikeout/9 IP ratio (10.48). Radio Broadcasts: Tonight s game can be heard through the Lexington Legends broadcast network through lexingtonlegends.com with Keith Elkins on the call.
