Hello and Happy New Year! A big welcome to the Derbyshire Dales Walking for Health Guide with plenty of opportunities to make and keep those new resolutions Entry Level Walk: Up to 30 minutes Suitable for people who have not walked much before, are working to be more active, or are returning from injury or illness. The walks are on flat ground or gentle slopes with mainly firm surfaces with no stiles. Very Easy Walk: 30 75 minutes Suitable for people looking for gentle exercise, to lose weight and have a more active lifestyle. Routes are chosen to ensure the walks are on good surfaces and designed to increase your heart rate. Easy Walk: 60 90 minutes The walks will suit walkers who would like to go that bit further. Walks may include stiles and slight uphill and downhill on rougher terrain. 3 Moderate and Long Progression Walks: 90 120/120 180 minutes Longer, more challenging walks which are likely to include stiles, uphill and downhill walking on rougher terrain. The table below sets out the regular weekly walks around the district. If walking from a Leisure Centre, the route is chosen on the day. Whitworth Park, Darley Dale - Wellbeing Nordic Walking Fridays 11.00am Meet outside the Whitworth Centre Café, park in the free Whitworth Centre Car Park off the A6. A Wellbeing session is for walkers with medical conditions, mobility issues and those recovering from injury. Nordic Walking poles are freely available during the sessions and can be booked out at other times. Ashbourne Weekly Walks Wednesdays 10.30am, Long walks: 120 180 minutes Meet at Ashbourne Leisure Centre and share cars to go on the best walks in the southern Dales and beyond. Fridays, Moderate Walks: 90 120 minutes Meet at Ashbourne Leisure Centre. We sometimes walk from the Leisure Centre and sometimes car share to a starting point within a 10 minute drive from the Leisure Centre. Tideswell Wednesday Moderate Progression Walks, 9.45am Tideswell walks usually (except January) meet on the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday of the month at Fountain Square, adjacent to the public toilets. We also share cars to walk further afield. Moderate 90 120 minute walks around Tideswell and the surrounding area. More challenging walks which are likely to include stiles, uphill and downhill walking on rougher terrain. Jan Feb March Wednesdays 9.45am no 17 7 21 7 21 Youlgrave Tuesday Easy Walk, 60 90 minutes, 10.30am Meet at Coldwell End Car Park in the village for an easy walk around Youlgrave area, Birchover and Stanton in Peak. Walking on the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesday of the month. We also share cars to walk further afield. Jan Feb March 9 23 13 27 13 27 Wirksworth Weekly Walks Meet at Wirksworth Leisure Centre Reception Mondays 2.00pm Very Easy Walks (30 75 minutes) 6 Easy Walks (60 90 minutes) A choice of 2 walks a very easy walk or a slightly longer easy walk you choose depending on how you feel on the day. Meet at Wirksworth Leisure Centre Reception - Wednesdays 9.45am Moderate Progression Walk (90 120 minutes) We share cars to walk further afield from different starting places.

The Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health Matlock Fridays 2.00pm Weekly We usually meet at the DFMH Base at Unit 7, Lime Tree Business Park, Lime Tree Road, Matlock DE4 3EJ at 1.45 for a 2.00pm start for local Easy walks for 60 90 minutes with a friendly group. Sometimes we meet up further afield for a different walk please ring Becky on 01629 761225 for details The Farming Life Centre Thursday Walks 1.15pm A gentle monthly afternoon walk, on Thursdays. Meet at 1.15pm for a 1.30 2.30pm walk, with the opportunity for refreshments and a good chat afterwards! Our walks are short and Easy on good surfaces but may involve some stiles or ascents/descents over a short distance. In the event of extreme weather conditions, please contact Pauline beforehand on 07538 785666 to confirm the walk is going ahead. 22 February 2018 Rowsley, approx. 2 miles Meet and park in the free car park at Cauldwell s Mill. The walk follows a hidden footpath besides the Derwent river with the chance of seeing a kingfisher if we are lucky. Cakes etc at the Cauldwell s Mill café and a chance to browse the craft shops. 22 March 2018 Chelmorton approx. 2 miles Street parking in the middle of the village somewhere near Primitive Hall. This walk takes in aspects of this pretty ribbon village and some of the surrounding farmland, good paths under foot. We will take refreshments at the Brierlow Bar Café and Bookstore. Roll and Stroll walks are fully accessible, wheelchair friendly and led by qualified walk leaders. Disabled parking, cafes and refreshments, picnic areas and accessible toilets are always available. Park in the free walker s car park round the back by Bamfords Auction House. Come and join us on at least 3 or 4 beautiful different length walks. Options include: up on to Rowsleymoor wood, and down into Chatsworth Estate via the Russian House and Carton Lees, Rowsley to Bakewell (return by bus), Rowsley to Darley Dale and on to Matlock along the cycle trail, bus to Chatsworth House and return, and Rowsley up to Stanton House Farm, Stanton Moor and return. Some routes can offer shorter options too with buses.

Monthly Dementia Friendly Walks in Whitworth Park, Darley Dale Second Tuesday afternoon of the month at 1.30pm 2.30pm 9 January, 13 February, and 13 March and so on We have teamed up with Making Space (Derbyshire Dementia Support Service) to offer these Dementia Friendly short walks around the lovely Whitworth Park. These wheelchair friendly easy walks link into the Activity Groups and Carer Support Groups that Making Space currently organise. These walks will enable those living with dementia and carers supporting loved ones to enjoy gentle exercise, good company and the great outdoors. We guarantee a warm welcome and a programme of walks designed specifically for you at your pace (30 60 mins) If you need someone to support you, please don t come on your own as unfortunately we can t offer any additional support. Park in the free car park at the Whitworth Centre off the A6 Fortnightly Hurst Farm Easy Walks Mondays 9.30am 11.00am Meet at Hurst Farm Community Centre, 6 Hazel Grove. Come and join us for a nice friendly walk usually (except January) on the 1 st and 3 rd Monday of the month. Walking s great for meeting new people and putting a smile on your face. Start at a pace that s right for you and gradually build up as you get more confident. Tea and Coffee afterwards. Bring your Gold Card as we may hop on a bus into Matlock. Jan Feb March Mondays 9.30am 8 22 5 19 5 19 New Matlock Weekly Workplace Lunchtime Walks 12.30 If you work in Matlock and fancy a brisk 30 minute walk around Matlock you are very welcome come and join us on Mondays and Thursdays. Meet at Derbyshire Dales District Council Town Hall reception (lower Bank road).
