New Orleans has dropped eight of 13 meetings with Colorado Springs this season, including three of four at Security Service Field from June 3-July 3, despite hitting.31 (44x142) across the four games. The Zephyrs need to win four of their final six contests to secure their second winning campaign in the last nine years, joining 212. YESTERDAY S NEWS Michael Reed belted a grand slam as part of a six-run first inning for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, who cruised to a 13-5 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday night. The Sky Sox poured it on over the first three innings, scoring 11 times. Z s starter Dylan Axelrod opened the game by allowing three consecutive one-out hits and walking the bases loaded to set the stage for Reed s slam. The Zephyrs cut the lead in half in the second as Elliot Soto hit his first triple of the season to score Isaac Galloway and Don Kelly before coming in on Cole Gillespie s groundout to make it 6-3. Colorado Springs batted around in the third as part of a five-run onslaught that would chase Axelrod from the game. Tyler Bremer pitched 3.2 innings of solid relief despite allowing both of his inherited runners to score on a one-out double to Andy Wilkins to cap the third inning rally. The Sky Sox tacked on solo runs in the fifth and seventh, while New Orleans mustered just two runs over the final seven frames. ON THE HILL Kendry Flores takes the ball for his 16 th start with New Orleans this season. Flores suffered the loss in his last start as he gave up four runs and nine hits over seven innings. His two big mistakes came in the form of home runs to Drew Robinson and Preston Beck, marking the first time since June 22, 214, that Flores had surrendered two big flies in a start. Flores is in search of his first win since July 19, going -3 in six starts with a 5.6 ERA (21 ER / 37.1 IP) in that stretch. He has struggled away from Zephyr Field, posting a 1-2 record with a 5.4 ERA (23 ER / 38.1 IP) in seven starts on the road compared to a 2.92 ERA in eight starts (16 ER / 49.1 IP) at home. SNAPPING THE AXE Dylan Axelrod coughed up 11 earned runs on 12 hits to the Sky Sox yesterday over just 2.1 innings pitched. His 11 earned runs allowed are the most a single Zephyrs hurler has given up in a start this season, and he tied a franchise record for individual earned runs given up in a start (Brian Lawrence, July 24, 21, and Brian Stokes, April 22, 28). Axelrod s 12 hits allowed are also tied for the most a single Zephyrs pitcher has given up in a game this season. AUGUST RISE The Zephyrs have clinched a winning record in the month of August for just the second time in the past decade, despite posting its highest team ERA of any month in 216 (4.32). A win tonight would tie their second best record in August in franchise history (The club also went 18-12 in 213). New Orleans best record for the month was set in the team s inaugural campaign in The Big Easy, when the Z s went 21-1 in August. RIDDLE ME THIS After being named a 216 Southern League Postseason All-Star yesterday, J.T. Riddle singled in a 1x4 effort to extend his hitting streak to nine games, tied with Robert Andino for the second-highest streak among Zephyrs hitters this season. He has a hit in 1 of his first 11 games since being promoted from AA Jacksonville. Going back to June 23, when he began a 25-game hit streak with the Suns, Riddle has hit safely in 41 of his last 44 games, compiling a.337 batting average (58x172). Riddle s 122 hits are fourth among Marlins farmhands behind Destin Hood (127), Jupiter/Jacksonville s Brian Anderson (125) and Jupiter s John Norwood (124). TOMAS THE TRAIN Tomas Telis has hit safely in 16 of his last 19 games, going 26x74 (.351) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs and 1 RBI. He is five plate appearances shy of qualifying for ranking seventh in the PCL batting race with a.312 mark. Telis has eight multi-hit efforts in his last 13 games and 3 on the year, tied with Robert Andino for second-most on the club. ROSTER MOVES The Marlins have recalled right-hander Jake Esch, who will make his MLB debut tonight against the Mets. Reliever Ryan Chaffee has rejoined the team from Double-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. He pitched in one game during his last stint with New Orleans, allowing four runs over 2.2 innings pitched against Salt Lake City on August 16. The Z s have also activated reliever Drew Steckenrider, who spent the last week on the disabled list with a left calf strain. The Zephyrs roster is now at capacity with 25 players. NAWLINS NOTES The Zephyrs allowed 17 hits last night, matching a season-high, while their 13 runs given up is the most the team has allowed in a game this season. The eight-run loss also tied a season-high for the Z s largest margin of defeat (April 11 at Iowa and July 5 vs. Round Rock) Elliot Soto collected his first career triple in Triple-A, and his third three-bagger in the last four seasons Tomas Telis bounced into the Zephyrs 11 th double play in their last five games, and their league-leading 133 rd of the season Nefi Ogando has hurled 1.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

216 SEASON 15 KENDRY FLORES Height: 6-2 Weight: 175 Bats: Right Throws: Right Born: 11/24/1991 Age: 24 Resides: Azua, Dominican Republic CUBS HANDCUFFED On 4/2 vs. Iowa, Flores retired the first 13 Cubs batters before settling for a no-decision. In three career starts against Iowa, Flores is 1- with a.92 ERA (2 ER/19.2 IP) and has limited the Cubs to a.152 average (1x66). TOUGH TO BREAK Flores numbers in threatening situations have been phenomenal this year. With runners on base with two outs, he is allowing hitters a.179 (12x67) average, with runners in scoring position he is surrendering a.216 (21x97) clip and in RISP with two outs, sluggers are just 6x41 (.146). FINALLY VICTORIOUS Kendry Flores surrendered only one earned run in four of his five starts to start this season, but had yet to pick up a victory this year until he did so against Round Rock on Saturday. Flores tossed a quality six innings, giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out four. PROMOTION Flores was called up to Miami on 5/14, taking the hill for the Marlins that night against the Nationals. He went three innings, allowing just one hit and three walks before leaving the game with a shoulder injury. REHAB TRAIL After almost five weeks on the disabled list, Kendry Flores made two rehab starts before returning to a full workload. He returned to the field on June 2 for Class A-Advanced Jupiter, going five innings against Bradenton, where he allowed just two hits. He pitched six days later for Double-A Jacksonville, tossing 5.2 innings of one run ball, scattering seven hits with four strikeouts against the Mississippi Braves. IN RELIEF Kendry Flores saw his first Triple-A relief action on 7/14 against Fresno, tossing four innings while surrendering two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. He last pitched in relief for the Marlins in 215, when he went 1-1 in six appearances. HOMEY FEELING Kendry Flores has much preferred the confines of Zephyr Field this season, posting a 2.92 ERA in eight starts (16 ER / 49.1 IP) at home versus a 1-2 record with a 5.4 ERA (23 ER / 38.1 IP) in eight starts on the road. 216 SEASON W-L ERA G IP H R ER BB SO 3-5 4. 17 87.2 96 44 39 36 68 216 SPLITS (AAA) Home: Away: Day Games: Night Games: vs. LH: vs. RH: 2-3, 2.92 ERA 1-2, 5.4 ERA -, 2.45 ERA 3-5, 4.2 ERA.288 (44x153), 6 HR, 16 BB, 32 K.278 (52x187), 1 HR, 2 BB, 36 K 216 HIGHS/LOWS (AAA) No. Opp Innings: 7. 8/26 vs. Round Rock Most s Allowed: 1 7/1 at Colorado Springs Least s Allowed: 3 7/19 vs. Sacramento Most Runs Allowed: 7 7/1 at Colorado Springs Least Runs Allowed: 7/19 vs. Sacramento Strikeouts: 7 8/21 vs. Oklahoma City Walks: 4 4x, (Most recent: 8/16 at SL) Homers Allowed: 2 8/26 vs. Round Rock Winning W2 Losing L3 current Shortest Start: 3.2 4/1 at Omaha Pitches Thrown: 111 8/26 vs. Round Rock LAST TIME (AAA) Date Opp Win: 7/19/16 vs. Sacramento Loss: 8/26/16 at Round Rock Quality Start: 8/8/16 vs. Memphis Complete Game: --- Shutout: --- CAREER vs. OPPONENT W-L ERA G IP H R ER BB SO -2 5.95 4 19.2 25 15 13 5 8 DAY BY DAY STARTS Date Opp Result Dec IP H R ER BB SO HR Run Supp. Notes 4/1 @OMA W 7-4 -- 3.2 5 1 1 4 4 2 Shortest career AAA start 4/15 OMA L 3- L, 1 5. 4 2 1 2 3 Z s home opener 4/2 IOW W 3-2 -- 6.2 5 1 1 5 1 2 Tied longest AAA start w/o decision 4/25 @NVL W 4-3 -- 5. 6 3 3 1 5 1 Exited trailing 3-1 5/2 @OKC W 3-2 -- 5. 5 1 1 2 3 1 2 Fourth start allowing just one ER 5/6 @RR W 3-2 W, 1 6. 5 2 2 3 4 3 Ended streak of seven winless GS 7/1 @CSP L 13-7 L, 2 4.1 1 7 5 2 3 4 Most hits allowed since 6/27/13 7/6 RR W 9-3 W, 2 5.2 4 2 2 1 5 1 9 Most run support this season 7/19 SAC W 3- (7) W, 3 5. 3 2 4 3 1 st B2B wins since 6/26-7/1/15 7/24 @OKC L 5-3 -- 6. 5 3 2 4 3 1 3 Then season-high 14 pitches 7/29 IOW W 7-5 -- 4. 6 2 2 4 5 7 95 pitches/55 strikes 8/8 MEM L 2- L, 3 6.1 7 2 1 1 5 2 nd QS in last three GS 8/16 @SL L 9-3 L, 4 5.1 7 5 5 4 2 1 Tied most ER given up in Triple-A GS 8/21 OKC W 5-3 -- 5.2 7 3 3 1 7 3 Season-high 7 K s 8/26 RR L 4-2 L, 5 7. 9 4 4 1 5 2 2 First time giving up 2HR since 6/22/14
