April Edition Of Hawg Wash Official Newsletter of the Quad County Hawg Hunters April 14 Meeting This month s meeting will start at 7:30 and take place at the Plano American Legion 510 E. Dearborn St. in Plano, IL. April Meeting Agenda We will be discussing our results of the Fishing Flea Market. We will also discuss what we will be putting money towards DNR Fisheries this year. We will also have a presentation going over the interesting topics of the Muskies Inc. 50 th Anniversary Symposium that will be given by Duane Landmeier with the help of Dana Smith and Richard Clark. We will first talk about the history of Muskies Inc. Then we will go over some interesting items that biologists talked about at the Symposium. Many of the topics we thought that a lot of our club members could use in an upcoming trip or on a fishing excursion. We will also have 3 Illinois Outdoors News
subscriptions to give away that were donated to the club for placing ads in their magazine. Dick Cole Memorial Breakfast Results Our breakfast was a success again! Thanks for all of the help from everyone that worked the breakfast. Everything went smooth. At one point though we had so many people that we could not keep up on the food and actually had to get more tables out for people to sit down. That is a problem that is great because we are making profits. Pretty busy at the Dick Cole Memorial Breakfast
Club Bumper Stickers Available We now have really nice stickers available for $10 a piece. I will have them at our next meeting. If you cannot make a meeting and would like one just send me a check made out to Quad County Hawg Hunters. (Duane) dlandmeier@frontier.com let me know and I will mail one to you. June 11 Club Outing Shabbona We will be having our club outing at Shabbona on June 11 this year. We will be fishing from 6 A.M. until 12 P.M. Then we will have a lunch at one of the shelters most likely the Somonauk Point one. Bring your own beverage. I am going to invite several chapters to see if we get a better showing this year. Kids Fishing Day June 18 th Maple Lane Farm is the date of the kids fishing day this year. It is a beautiful place to have this event. If you have nieces, kids or grandkids this is just a great time. It is also swimming, petting zoo and many other fun kids surprises.stay tuned for upcoming details. Awards Meeting Recap At our March meeting we had our annual awards banquet. Many people attended. We gave out some nice plaques and had some great raffles. A good time was had by all.

IMA REPORT The winter, quarterly meeting was held Feb., 28th at Bass Pro Shop in Bolingbrook. A letter of thanks from Denny Sands of the Shabbona Sportsman Club thanking the IMA and member clubs for helping repair the retention fencing below the dam was introduced. Quad County contributed $500 to this project. DNR has finalized its wish list for this year. The total amount now including 5 trap nets is $10,555. In order of priority they are seeking the 2nd trailer to haul fish ($4,000), PIT tags and guns for 3 biologists ($4,055) and the trap nets ($2,500). The state cannot fund these projects. As of this writing, other IL muskie clubs have pledged $2,750. FRV, the largest club in IL, has budgeted $3,500 towards 2016 projects. This is in addition to $5,000 for stocking. FRV's Board is considering the amount to be contributed toward these DNR projects. DNR has also requested help in upgrading its booth at sport shows. Locally, it exhibits at the Chicago Muskie Expo, the Schaumburg and Tinley Park fishing shows. Dan Lamkin, FRV's Show Director has volunteered to help redesign their booth. Creel Survey - The 2015 muskie creel survey shows 601 fish were registered. The benefits to the IL muskie program of reporting every muskie caught regardless of size are substantial in helping the biologists plan and manage our fishery. Muskie fishing in IL has never been better because of the emphasis DNR has been giving to the muskie program. Want more and better muskie in IL? Report your catches. This is in addition to reporting to the MI Lunge Log were your report of 30"+ fish contributes to this vast storehouse of individual lake statistics that we each can use every day. You can report to the DNR at ifishillinois.org or by filling out and mailing in a green card. 50 th Anniversary Muskies Inc. Symposium
The Minneapolis Sheraton West near Minnetonka was the site of the 50 th Anniversary Muskies In. Symposium a few weeks back. Richard Clark, Dana Smith and Duane Landmeier represented our club well at the well run event. Hats off to the north Metro and Twin Cities chapters of Muskies Inc. for running the event. There were 40 different fisheries biologist speakers to listen to speak from Sunday to Tuesday. Biologists from all over the U.S. and Canada were there to listen to about your favorite areas etc. This was such useful information on places that you fish normally and new placed to go try. What better person to ask questions about a place than a fisheries biologist that had nothing to hide. The Banquet was on Saturday night with all kinds of raffles. Dana Smith actually won a couple of whiskey musky decanters and a print. The next one will be in 10 or maybe 5 years. If any of you can attend that one it would be highly recommended. This was such a great time meeting people that you would not otherwise see or seeing old friends that you do not see as often as you would like. New Member Please welcome Dennis Miller of Urbana, Illinois to our club. 217-384-7112 cmmiller53@hotmail.com
