1 U P C O M I N G E V E N T S FRV BOD Meeting Wednesday February 6th. Location TBD! ` FRV NEWS CAST F E B R U A RY Chain O Lakes Ice Fishing Derby February 9th- 10th! February 13th club meeting featuring Gregg Thomas and Tony Grant February Issue What s Inside Board - General 2 February speakers are Tony Grant and Gregg Thomas Challunge on the Chain Entry Form Take a Kid Fishing FRV Calendar of Events From the Membership Circle Chain O Lakes Ice Fishing Derby Members Only Contest Standings Members Photos Hopefully we all can welcome in February. As I am writing this column it is -26 outside and Muskie fishing is one of the furthest things from my mind! But you have to look on the positive side of the situation and within a month many of you will be making trips down to Southern Illinois and Kentucky and you will be putting fish in the boat! Within two months the Chain will be open and we all will be out there, giving it our best to try and catch some of those elusive April muskies. We all will be trying those $50.00 plus baits that we bought at one of those show we all visited over the winter. Now all of that sounds like fun. Much better than the -26 temps I experienced today on my way into work. So what is going on with the club? That is a good question. First, this is the 1 st newsletter that we will be sending out via . This change will save the club about $2,000 in That is potentially $2,000 more that we can put into our stocking and youth activities. Hopefully our little experiment will be successful and you all can experience the master pieces that Rich Gallagher puts together monthly is all of its color. Secondly, we will be attempting to ramp up our Fishing Contest participation. Having monthly giveaways at the meetings, posting more pictures on social media outlets like Facebook and Instagram. Lastly, making a big giveaway at the 2020 Banquet to one or more of the people that participated in the contest during I will have more details at the February and March meetings. The third enhancement we will be making is promoting our outings and events. It is my goal to getting an annoying on to your screens once a week all year around. These s will be promoting our Outings, Banquet, Tournament and Youth activities. These will be the three bigger changes that I hope the BOD can bring to the club in this New Year. On March 23 rd we will holding our annual awards and fund raising Banquet. Steve Kroll has a great line-up of prizes that will be available for this event. The last I looked, the prize list was in excess of $25,000 and growing. This event sells out every year. Seats are limited, so sign up soon. More details are available in this newsletter. Regarding our outing schedule. Here is what we have planned for st event / outing will take place on May 4 th. This will be a youth event that will be new to the club. Our plan is to have approximately a dozen or so kids out on boats fishing for the morning. We are looking for guide boats for the event. If you are interesting in helping and being one of those guide boats, please contact Jeff Henderson our Youth Director. 2nd outing will be our tournament that will be held on May 18 th. More information in this newsletter. 3 rd outing will be our trip to Lake of the Woods, July 13 th to the 20 th. We again be hosted by Sunset Lodge on Oak Island. There will be more details available at the meeting. 4 th event is something we will bring back to the club. It will be our Cancer benefit tournament that will be help on September 14 th on the Chain. The event will be hosted by Time to Bite. More details to follow. 5 th outing will be our 5 th annual Trip up to Crivitz Wisconsin to fish the High Falls and Calderon flowages. The event will be hosted by Popp s Resort. The outing will have openings for 12 people. Again, more information to follow. 6 th outing will be our 4 th annual Sucker Fest. This year we will be making a change over to the Hayward area. The event will be hosted by Garmisch Resort on Lake Namakagon in Cable, WI. This event will also be limited to 12 people. More information to follow. As you can see we have a busy schedule ahead of us in Hopefully you and your friends will be able to attend one or more of these events. The friends you will make at these events will last you a lifetime. On top of that you just might learn a like bit more about Muskie Fishing. As always, if you have ideas about how we can improve the club, where changes are needed, please feel free to contact me. We are always looking for ways to improve the FRV experience. Until next month, be prepared and be safe. Dan Koniewicz

6 P A G E 6 FRV MUSKIES INC. FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER "Some Interesting Historical Trivia". In 1920 a new lure was introduced by the F. B. Hamilton Company of Pasadena, California. Medley's Wiggly Crawfish. They said: "you should have one in your bait box to be sure of a catch! Medley emphasized to potential buyers, adding that "if fish are biting they will take this lure. They take it when they won't take others. Featuring two double hooks and a lip just below the line tie at its tail, this 3-inch long, shallow-diving crankbait bait, also has glass eyes and an impressive paint finish. (Impressive paint finishes still helps sell lures)! Listen to this, Henry Medley (invertor of this lure) whittled the first Wiggly Crawfish from pine and made the metal lip from a Prince Albert Tobacco can. How many of you older guys remember Prince Albert Tobacco cans? Some of us do! It came in 12 colors and the manufacture claims it is the best lure in the world "Wow". Those old time lure companies made a lot of claims about their product something we don't see in today's market on that scale. Can I say FRV is the best Muskie Club in the area, well maybe? Can I say we have the best members around, I think-so. Can I say we have the best meetings well, I think that is true! We owe a lot of thanks to our members, the meeting turn-outs have been great, the raffle sales good and the meetings are fun (when Chandler's makes our regular room available). See You-all at the Feb. 13th meeting! I hope you enjoyed my historical trivia! Frank Lucido Membership Director
