A Somerset School Affiliate August 24, 2012 From the Green House IN THIS ISSUE Parents, As tropical disturbances develop in the Caribbean and spin northward, we should review the school s inclement weather policy. Please remember, CCA will close school for weather whenever Orange County Public Schools close. OCPS has direct communication with state and local emergency officials; therefore, we will follow their lead. The official news outlet for OCPS is Channel 13 on Bright House. During inclement weather they cover any information about the status of OCPS Operations. Parents, Progress Book login letters have been sent home with the students today. These are all active and up and running. Principal s Address WOW!! What a great first week of school! We got everyone here, we got everyone fed, we got everyone home! Actually, we did a lot more than that! In between the dropping off and picking up procedures, there was a lot of instruction going on! And there is a lot more to do. While we are certainly still looking at ways to streamline and provide safety and comfort during the pick-up process-new routes, awnings, carpet over the asphalt-we are moving on to what comes between getting your students here and getting them home. I appreciate those who have shown patience, support and gratitude during our first week. Expect lots of rain next week, probably wind, maybe thunder and lightning too! Please equip your child with rain gear, umbrellas-we will do our best to keep them dry and safe. Some parents are still not following correct procedures-dropping off in the middle of the street, dropping off way too early, picking up way too late, walking up some days but not others. We have worked very hard to put procedures together to make this as smooth as possible. We are still working to make it better. And by the way, the 2 bald men, who happen to be the Mayor of Belle Isle and the City Manager (both fingerprinted) have taken time from their busy days to help us with all of this. They provided signage, cones, time, awnings, rugs to come, and lots of sweat equity! We could not have done this without them. In the next few weeks, when we all finally begin to get IDs, the bald guys will be wearing them too! Thanks to those families that turned in both agreement forms-cornerstone and OCPS. If you receive a letter saying that we still need yours-it must be turned in prior to school beginning on Monday, August 27.Students will not be allowed in class without them. OCPS requires theirs and we require ours. If we sent you a letter by mistake, please forgive us. We had 2,000 or so to look through Friday and could certainly have made errors. Could you print and sign another one please? We so appreciate all of this! Again, thank you for turning those in! Teachers are working on their new websites and the Cornerstone website will be ready to launch after Labor Day! It is very exciting to see this being built! Schedule changes are complete! We will begin the new ID process next week. Our new building is being readied for students to enter the doors soon! Our first football game and volleyball game this evening with a pep rally to kick the sports season off in style!!!! While all of this is very exciting, the most exciting things are going on in the classrooms. Our gold medal teachers are amazing and our students are learning! The administrative team looks forward to begin visiting classes and seeing the teachers and students in action. We are moving forward to bigger and better things-empowering, not enabling!!! More face time, less facebook time!!!! 20121-2013 School Year-Here We Come!!!! Dr. Renee Pancoast, Principal
