Llamas of the Wine Country Harvest Celebration October 4 and 5, 2014 Sonoma County Fairgrounds Santa Rosa, California Llama Association of Southern California 2014 Year End Meeting and Awards Saturday, November 1, 2014 Hosted by Dennis and Tracey Wallace Fur and Feathers Llama Ranch Redlands, CA DO YOU HAVE A PRODUCT TO TELL US ABOUT? If there is a product that works for you, we want to share your opinion. This newsletter editor has recently tried LlamaPel Citronella and Lemongrass Spray. Wiped on with a cloth to the llama s face and ears, or sprayed on their legs, it does repel flies. I like that it is all natural. It leaves their fiber shiny, and soothes irritated skin. And, it smells really good! I found this product at Quality Llama Products. 2

LASC PRESIDENT S MESSAGE JULY 2014 2014 has been a busy time with The Indio Date Festival and Del Mar Show already behind us. The Antelope Valley Fair will be held later in August. In May of this year, Dr. Murray E. Fowler, DVM passed away. He was a true pioneer in many aspects of llama health care, medical research and overall positive development of the camelid community. Our deepest condolences go to the Dr. Murray E. Fowler family. A number of camelid organizations and others have gotten together to dedicate a bench in Dr. Murray s memory at the Sacramento Zoo, where he devoted so much of his time and professional skills. The cost of the bench is $2,500.00. A substantial amount of the money needed has been pledged. The LASC Board of Directors donated $500.00 on behalf of our membership. Below is the proposed inscription on the bronze bench plaque in Dr. Fowler s memory. (Text subject to change contingent upon additional donor participation.) Dr. Murray E. Fowler, DVM Legend for his Leadership and Lifetime Contributions to Camelid Medicine Donated by the Llama Association of North America, International Llama Registry, Llama Association of Southern California, Cal-Paca and Friends As mentioned in my last message to the membership, there has been interest expressed in having a Pack Llama Trial Association (PLTA) pack trials. I have been in communication with PLTA, and although events are slow at this time, the organization is very much enthusiastic and interested in carrying on with the PLTA tradition of promoting and conducting llama pack trials. Currently, there are plans to have a PLTA pack trial in the Cleveland National Forest (San Diego area) sometime this Fall. I will pass on the information as received. Also, we have been active in our Fiber Connection activities. Please contact Barbie Carlson or Nanci Sutton if you would like to share ideas or different venues you would like to see or participate in. Don t forget to take advantage of the LASC website that contains all membership information, services and advertisements. Contact our LASC webmaster, Norma Stevens, at msllama@aol.com regarding website service and advertisement information. To all, enjoy a fantastic Summer. In honor of our Senior graduates, Kaitlynn Virgo planned a Llama Prom with snacks, decorations and music. Lauren Pyle was unanimously crowned Prom Queen. Our llama family enjoyed country line dancing thanks to David Taylor. Thanks to everyone who contributed. It was so much fun! 8
