Jb Descriptin Key Purpse f the jb Supprt ZSL in achieving its missin and strategic aims thrugh the use and advancement f hrticulture, the applicatin and develpment f plant related expertise and knwledge, and by managing ZSL s sites fr bidiversity by wrking within the Facilities Management department. Visitr experience - Maintain and develp amenity areas and exhibits t defined hrticultural standards (planting and maintenance f temperate and trpical herbaceus and wdy stck, lawn and meadw maintenance, hedge maintenance, tree management, prpagatin and cultivatin f temperate and trpical stck). Animal management - Carry ut hrticultural tasks that supprt animal sectins ptimising welfare and husbandry pprtunities (prvisin f frage, prpagatin and grwing f herbs and ther stck in the nursery and glasshuses fr use as frage and enrichment, supply f plants and plant materials fr exhibits and as exhibit furnishings). Bidiversity cnservatin - Carry ut hrticultural tasks that ptimise the site s bidiversity value and functin thrugh apprpriate habitat management (e.g. tree, deadwd and scrub management, meadw management, invasive species cntrl). Educatin, learning and research - Participate in training and further learning (frmal and infrmal) t cmply with legislatin and best practice, and t develp up t date skills and knwledge in z hrticulture. The jb hlder is expected t act in a prfessinal, respectful and cnstructive manner when dealing with clleagues at ZSL and ther rganisatins, cntractrs, suppliers and members f the public. The jb hlder must be able t wrk as part f a team as well as n her/his wn initiative and is expected t prvide caching fr thers if required. ii. Cmmunicatin Cmmunicatin is mstly verbal, but als by phne and email. The jb hlder is expected t regularly check her/his emails t be aware f updates t ZSL and departmental plicies and prcedures and ther cmmunicatins. iii. Liaisn The jb hlder is required t liaise with line management, clleagues, ther departments, and t sme extent with cntractrs, suppliers and members f the public. D. Mental demands i. The jb hlder must be able use her/his skill, experience and knwledge t decide n safe ways f carrying ut tasks in cmpliance with legislatin, best practice and ZSL/departmental plicies and prcedures, and when t cnsult a line manager fr further guidance. The jb hlder shuld have the ability t make decisins and priritise tasks accrding t their imprtance and urgency in cntext f the department s verall peratin. ii. Original thught and prblem slving The jb hlder is expected t participate in discussins during team briefings and meetings in a cnstructive and curteus manner. iii. Cncentratin The jb hlder must be able t fcus n the task in hand when wrking with equipment and machinery, and when handling substances and materials. iv. Flexibility The psitin requires flexibility when planned tasks are superseded by unscheduled changes, r when tasks are interrupted by events that take pririty, such as the need t deal with hazardus situatins, visitr enquiries, r having t accmmdate cntractrs and suppliers. E. Wrking cnditins Wrk will be undertaken utdrs in all weather cnditins and in the z s indr exhibits. The jb hlder must be physically capable f carrying ut the required tasks.
