3 1.3 Review methdlgy The review was cnducted by a team f three reviewers. 4 2. Executive summary 2.1 Key findings Students, teachers and parents speak well f the schl. The tne f the schl is psitive and friendly. The schl presents as calm and classes are rderly and purpseful. There is a psitive, caring relatinship between staff, students and parents. The schl has develped an imprvement agenda which includes schl-wide targets fr imprvement. The principal and leadership team are cmmitted t finding ways t imprve n current student utcmes. The schl s imprvement agenda as identified in the Annual Implementatin Plan 2015 includes: imprving reading utcmes fr students, Schl Wide Psitive Behaviur Supprt (SWPBS) and increasing the percentage f students achieving in the Upper Tw Bands (U2B). Schl leaders have analysed schl perfrmance data with staff and are aware f trends in student achievement. The leadership team cmprises the principal and tw deputy principals. Supprting this team is a Head f Curriculum (HOC), Head f Special Educatin (HOSES), Literacy Cach and Learning and Engagement Cach. The majrity f these persnnel are currently in acting rles. This team is cnstantly in the prcess f team building thrugh the changever f key persnnel. Leadership staff have basic rle and respnsibility statements t infrm day-t-day practices. The schl has a range f curriculum prgrams and dcuments, including a recently develped schl-wide reading strategy. The schl utilises Curriculum int the Classrm as the significant resurce t deliver the Australian Curriculum. There is sme evidence that the schl s curriculum plan, schl-based prgrams and framewrks cnsistently influence classrm practice. The schl is delivering research-based strategies fr schl imprvement which include Gradual Release f Respnsibility, The Big Six reading strategies and Wrds Their Way. There is a frmal prcess f teacher bservatin and feedback acrss the schl. Sme frmal mentring and caching practices have been established and are being implemented at this time. Teachers indicated that they are pen t receiving feedback n their teaching thrugh a frmal schl-wide prcess. 4
5 Nn-attendance is an issue fr a number f students acrss the schl. In 2014, 22.5 per cent f students attended less than 85 per cent and 15.4 per cent f students attended between 85 and 90 per cent. The schl has an attendance target f 93 per cent. There have been sme strategies intrduced t address attendance, such as a breakfast club. At this time the schl des nt have a whle schl apprach t address attendance issues. The schl has a Respnsible Behaviur Plan fr Students that explains the schl s behaviur expectatins and prtcls. This dcument has been cllabratively determined with staff and parent input. SWPBS is the practive strategy adpted by the schl t supprt students wellbeing, behaviur and learning. The schl prvides a range f psitive incentives t acknwledge apprpriate behaviur. The schl has established and develped beneficial partnerships with lcal businesses, cmmunity rganisatins and individuals t imprve pprtunities and learning utcmes fr students. The schl has maintained a relatinship with a great number f cmmunity rganisatins such as The Spt - cmmunity service, Greenbank RSL, St Gerge Bank, Brisbane Sprint Stable, Park Ridge Pirates AFL, AFL Queensland, Lgan City Cuncil, Lgan West Cmmunity Art-share Alliance, Griffith University, Early Years Centre and the Benevlent Sciety. 5
6 2.2 Key imprvement strategies Ensure that the clearly articulated whle schl imprvement agenda is narrw and sharp and is accmpanied by apprpriate targets, timelines, apprpriate resurcing and prfessinal develpment fr all schl persnnel. Build the capacity f the leadership team in terms f instructinal leadership in line with dcumented, clearly articulated and cmmunicated rles and respnsibilities f schl leaders and supprt team. Further develp a systematic whle schl apprach t building teacher capacity fcused n high quality prfessinal develpment linked t the schl s imprvement plan with caching, mentring, feedback and supervisin prcesses. Review the schl s Respnsible Behaviur Plan fr Students fr currency and effectiveness t determine its fit fr purpse in Sustain and embed the nging implementatin f SWPBS t supprt and enhance student wellbeing, behaviur and learning. Cllabratively review the schl s curriculum framewrk including a develpmental scpe and sequence dcument aligned t the Australian Curriculum. Develp a whle schl attendance strategy t enhance attendance and student engagement thrugh cllabratin with parents and cmmunity t refine this prcess. 6
