5 2. Executive summary 2.1 Key findings Teachers wrk hard t create warm and supprtive classrm envirnments, where students feel safe and are supprted t learn. Teachers wrk t build students' beliefs in their wn capacity t learn. Psitive relatinships characterised by mutual trust and respect exist between staff members and students. The schl gives attentin t student care and wellbeing. Strng cllegial supprt is apparent. Parents and families are valued as partners in student learning. A number f parents and staff members describe an attachment and lyalty t the schl and what it is aiming t achieve within the cmmunity. The schl leadership team has develped a strategic imprvement agenda. The imprvement agenda pririties include elements f quality teaching and learning, including Explicit Instructin (EI), classrm artefacts, alignment, classrm bservatins, reading, writing and numeracy, and learning envirnment including attainment, attendance and behaviur. The schl leadership team recgnises the imprtance f cnsistent, research-based teaching in all classrms t ensure that every student learns successfully. Teaching staff express that they understand the classrm expectatins identified in the Teaching and Learning Handbk. Teaching staff identify that the full range f schl identified practices underpinning the schl s pedaggical apprach is nt yet fully understd, especially in regard t hw the varius framewrks and strategies fit tgether. The schl has a team f highly capable staff wh plan and implement well aligned curriculum and assessment prgrams. The schl leadership team recgnises the imprtance f cnsistent, research-based teaching in all classrms t ensure that every student learns successfully. Practices assciated with implementatin f schl expectatins vary acrss the schl. Year 7 and Year 8 teachers f English plan and implement class-based literacy lessns supprted by teacher aides r a c-teacher. C-teaching is recgnised by teachers as an effective strategy t target the range f student needs. Cnsistently implemented schl-wide appraches t target the literacy needs f students are nt yet established. 5
6 The schl is using the Psitive Behaviur fr Learning (PB4L) framewrk as a means t imprve the behaviur f students. Within the framewrk, the schl defines behaviurs, explicitly teaches expected behaviurs, defines cnsequences fr inapprpriate behaviurs, and celebrates apprpriate psitive respnses frm students. As yet, PB4L strategies are nt thrughly and cnsistently applied in all classrms. 6
7 2.2 Key imprvement strategies Narrw and sharpen the Explicit Imprvement Agenda (EIA) and determine the pririties and assciated schl-wide strategies based n a thrugh and cllabrative investigatin f the schl data regarding student academic achievement, attendance and behaviur. Initiate cllabrative schl leadership team planning prcesses t identify a sharp fcus fr the cnsistent implementatin f schl pedaggical appraches. Develp a plan fr the staged implementatin f key schl pedaggical appraches acrss the schl t include structured and fcused prfessinal learning pprtunities t ensure cnsistent practice as identified in the Teaching and Learning Handbk. Identify, apply and mnitr explicit and cnsistent appraches t existing literacy interventin prgrams. Implement and mnitr high expectatins fr cnsistent, schl-wide implementatin f PB4L. 7
