Stewards' Reports Print Melbourne Racing Club @ Caulfield Date: Saturday December 30 2013 Track: Dead 4 (Races 1-4); Good 3 @ 2.52pm (Races 5-8) Penetrometer: 5.53 Weather: Fine Rail: +9m entire circuit Stewards Panel: Mr T Bailey (Chairman), Mr J Hitchcock, Mr W Hadley, Mr K Salt & Mr D Torpy Riding Changes / Jockey Information Race Horse Rider Replaced By Reason 6 Jayconi J McNeil J Beriman Dual engagement 7 Adjuster B Egan D Stackhouse Overweight 8 Isopach N McLean R Wheeler Indisposed 8 Paige s Boy M Walker D Stackhouse Dual engagement Medical Certificate produced today: K Mallyon Must produce Medical Certificate prior to riding again: N McLean Did not attend meeting: B Egan, N McLean General The Stewards today conferred with Assistant Trainer Mr T Haydon, who was representing the Peter Moody stable, with regard to the training of Tax Evader which had recently been transferred to their stable. Based on the advice from Racing Queensland Stewards that Tax Evader had been a late scratching at Eagle Farm on November 15, after having reared in the barriers, its nomination had subsequently been refused under AR50 as this was the sixth occasion that the horse had been barred for barrier misdemeanours. Queensland Stewards further advised that they subsequently lifted the embargo on Tax Evader after receiving a submission from the owners that Tax Evader would be transferred to Victoria for future racing. Mr Haydon gave the Stewards the undertaking that Tax Evader would trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in Victoria before it accepted for a race. Race 1 FLEMINGTON EQUINE CLINIC PLATE - 1000 metres: Shining Mane jumped out at the start and carried My Lucky Strike outwards.

Orujo and Idle Dreams were both tightened and lost their positions at the start when Zulu Land shifted ground outwards. It s About You (NZ) raced green throughout. Due to the tempo slackening between the 600m and the 400m Orujo improved between the running rail and to the inside of Shining Mane, and as a result Orujo ultimately ran out of sufficient racing room when negotiating the turn near the 500m and had to be checked severely. This resulted in Zulu Land, which was following, also having to be checked and at the same time receiving some pressure from Trailofdestruction which shifted in when it had to be restrained off the heels of My Lucky Strike, also due to the tempo of the race slackening. Also in this incident Lock And Load had to be checked to avoid the heels of Trailofdestruction. Due to this incident Lock And Load then shifted out forcing It s About You (NZ) wider on the track. After questioning the riders involved it was established that M Zahra (My Lucky Strike) and M Walker (Shining Mane) were the ones in control of the speed of the race and they were reminded of their obligations under the provisions of AR137(d) that is an offence to reduce the speed thereby causing interference, either directly or indirectly, to another horse. In arriving at this decision the Stewards took into account that it was a field of two year olds, the majority of which were having their first race start. Orujo laid out in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of Orujo revealed no abnormalities other than a slow recovery and a swab sample was taken for analysis. It s About You (NZ) hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of It s About You (NZ) revealed no abnormalities. Trailofdestruction laid in in the home straight. Race 2 LEIGH THOMAS GIFT - 1700 metres: Unique Dream was slow to begin. Girl In Flight, Pageant and Unique Dream all over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 400m Speed Gonzales shifted ground outwards taking Pageant wider on the track. Girl In Flight was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight behind Collins Street before obtaining clear running. Approaching the 300m Girl In Flight brushed with Speed Gonzales when attempting to obtain clear running. D Oliver (Pageant) could offer no real excuses for the performance of the colt today other than he was obliged to race wide. A subsequent veterinary examination of Pageant revealed no abnormalities. Race 3 CRV HOSPITAL HELPING HAND PLATE - 1400 metres: Made Of Ice was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.37pm when it was found to be lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr P Moody will submit a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding racing again. Betting deductions - doubles bets 11 cents in the dollar. The start of this race was delayed slightly to avoid a clash with the thoroughbred meeting at Hawkesbury. Gold Cufflinks was hampered at the start when Gracious Prospect shifted ground inwards.

Astra Delight was slow to begin. Essential Element was inclined to get its head up and over-race in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 900m Essential Element which was over-racing was steadied away from the heels of Gracious Prospect and shifted wider on the track carrying Countersnip outwards. Countersnip then raced three wide until approaching the 700m. I m Ready For This raced three wide without cover throughout. By The Grace raced keenly in the middle stages. Gold Cufflinks laid in in the home straight. S Baster (Gracious Prospect) was fined $200 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven times forehand prior to the 100m, which is two times more than permitted. S Baster was further severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m in a forehand manner. A post race veterinary examination of Essential Element failed to reveal any abnormalities and trainer Mr D O Brien indicated that Essential Element will now be gelded and sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of I m Ready For This failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 4 THE CFV GREAT STRIDES HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Academy Jack stood flat footed and missed the start by four lengths. Trainer Mr D Short was advised that a formal warning will be placed on the gelding s record and should it reoffend, further action may be taken. Academy Jack over-raced in the middle stages. Near the 200m Rockpecker laid in and had to be straightened by its rider to avoid the heels of The New Boy. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Disciple today, C Newitt was concerned that given the lack of speed on paper, that it may have been beneficial to try and ride the gelding closer than normal however his instructions were to ride Disciple in its normal pattern and he settled exactly where he was instructed to, that being three pairs back off the speed. C Newitt was of the view that the race wasn t run to suit, as the gelding needs plenty of speed in the early stages, which then allows him to finish the race off and this did not occur today. Assistant trainer Ms J Hales was also of the view that Disciple wasn t suited with the lack of early speed and would be recommending to trainer Mr C Waller to continue Disciple s campaign in Sydney where there tends to be more speed on in the races. A post race veterinary examination of Disciple failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. The track was upgraded from Dead 4 to Good 3 at 2.52pm after the running of this race. Race 5 CARPET CALL HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Crucial underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed suitable to race. Prior to commencement of the meeting it was established with connections that Counted (NZ) would be ridden more forward with cover if circumstances permit. Counted (NZ) settled behind the leader with

cover and was ridden accordingly. Rider D Stackhouse was of the view that the mare was not suited with the change of tactics today and failed to finish the race off as a result. A post race veterinary examination of Counted (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Aurora Lights (NZ) was restrained from its wide gate at the start to take up a position at the rear of the field. Counted raced keenly in the middle stages. Sensational Report raced wide without cover. Oasis Rose laid in rounding the home turn and in the home straight. When questioned S Wynne (Sensational Report) explained that the mare had been most unlucky at its last two starts due to wide barrier draws and as a result, given both runs were at Moonee Valley, she was obliged to give up too much ground in the early stages. Ms Wynne added that in her view the mare performed in accordance with its most recent starts but was benefited today with a better barrier draw and therefore was able to ride the mare closer. D Oliver, rider of Oasis Rose which performed below market expectations, stated he was instructed to ride the mare quiet which is consistent with its normal pattern, however was one paced and of the view it may be better suited ridden closer. A post race veterinary examination of Oasis Rose revealed no abnormal findings. Race 6 EAST MALVERN COMMUNITY BANK HANDICAP - 1100 metres: She Can Skate underwent a veterinary examination behind the gates and was passed suitable to race. General Offer jumped awkwardly and as a result rider D Smith was hit in the face. Like Bolt was slow to begin. King Buddy had to be momentarily steadied after the start when tightened between Jayconi and Infinite Energy. Amaethon laid in in the home straight. General Offer, when making ground passing the 200m, was held up before shifting wider on the track to obtain clear running. S Baster (Rifleman) reported that the gelding raced much closer than was intended as it pulled hard in the early stages and it had lost a race plate during the event. R Wheeler (She Can Skate) said that his mount had every chance during the running of the race however was the first horse beaten and was of the view that the mare had come to the end of its preparation and it would be going for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of She Can Skate failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. A post race veterinary examination of Cascabel failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Race 7 CFV AMBASSADORS PLATE - 2000 metres: Prior to the running of Race 6 co-trainer Mr M Ellerton advised that Twilighting would be ridden closer today as it wasn t the pre-race plan to get so far back at its last start. Twilighting settled third last.

W Egan was replaced as the rider of Adjuster by D Stackhouse due to being overweight. The Stewards at tonight s Cranbourne meeting will interview W Egan as to the circumstances into the reason why he accepted the ride when overweight. Prior to correct weight C Newitt rider of Extra Zero, second placegetter, lodged an objection against Electric Fusion being first placegetter, alleging interference over the final 150m. On the evidence it was established Extra Zero was racing tight to the inside of Electric Fusion and near the 100m slight contact was made between the two horses. The Stewards were of the opinion that Extra Zero did not lose any momentum, nor was it disadvantaged in anyway as a result of the slight contact near the 100m and therefore could not justify an alteration to the placings and the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared. Near the 1800m Flashy Fella (NZ) was obliged to surrender its position when tightened for room by Multilateral (USA) and Keep Cool (NZ), which was taken in by Post D france (NZ) which was shifting in and away from Adjuster despite the efforts of its rider. No action was taken as the Stewards were satisfied there was no rider error involved. Passing the 1600m Keep Cool (NZ) had to be restrained for some distance to avoid the heels of Post D france (NZ) and this resulted in Me Hungi, which was following, having to be checked off the heels of Keep Cool (NZ) when over-racing. Me Hungi then shifted in abruptly making contact with the running rail and then continued to over-race for some distance. Constant Force pulled hard passing the 1400m. Adjuster over-raced in the middle stages. Minnie Downs raced three wide without cover. Near the 400m Minnie Downs was buffeted between Adjuster and Constant Force. C Newitt was questioned regarding Extra Zero leading today, as opposed to its normal racing pattern and he explained that his instructions depended on whether the gelding jumped away cleanly or not. He said Extra Zero had a habit of missing the start however the gelding jumped well today and therefore he rode his mount to take up a forward position. C Symons (Multilateral (USA)) reported that it wasn t his intention to have Multilateral (USA) so close to the speed however put this down to the gelding having been freshened up after its last start. S Baster (Post D france (NZ)) reported that the gelding was disappointing and the stable had expected a forward showing given it had trialled well during the week. A post race veterinary examination of Post D france (NZ) revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 8 BALLYMORE STABLES HANDICAP - 1700 metres: After the running of Race 5 it was established with connections that Freshwater Storm would be ridden more forward today due to being up in distance. Freshwater Storm settled sixth just off the speed. Evie Rose jumped outwards at the start and bumped with Angelology (NZ). Near the 1400m Harveys True Heart and Angelology (NZ) both began to over-race Evie Rose raced wide without cover from the 1200m.

Leveraction over-raced in the middle stages. Near the 100m Parishon (NZ) was disappointed for a run before switching over the heels of the tiring Royal Island. C Newitt (Harveys True Heart) reported that it wasn t his intention to lead but was left with no other option in the early stages but to go forward. S Baster (Royal Island) was of the view the gelding did not back up today having its third start in almost as many weeks and in his view is better suited on softer tracks. A post race veterinary examination of Royal Island revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. D Dunn (Backstedt) explained that it wasn t the intention to ride the gelding so close today but was left with no other option in the early stages but to press on and go forward. A post race veterinary examination of Backstedt revealed no abnormalities. D Oliver (Murcielaga) said that his mount raced flat. A subsequent veterinary examination of Murcielaga failed to reveal any abnormal findings and a swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination of Murcielaga revealed no abnormalities. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported Isopach was lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr B James was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to the gelding racing again.
