FISH BITES The Marlins open the second half of their homestand with the first of four games against the San Francisco Giants tonight at 7:10 p.m. LHP Wei-Yin Chen, making his ninth start of the season, is facing the Giants for just the second time in his career. On August 10, 2013, he allowed three runs and five hits over 6.0 innings, with a walk and two strikeouts, in a 3-2 loss at AT&T Park. The Giants are featuring LHP Madison Bumgarner, who in seven previous starts against the Marlins has gone 2-3 with a 4.73 ERA (40.0/21). Miami returned home Friday after going 3-7 on a 10-game road trip to San Diego (1-3), Arizona (0-3) and St. Louis (2-1). The current homestand began with Miami dropping two of three to the San Diego Padres. The Marlins are in a stretch that will see them play 49 games in 52 days from May 25 to the All-Star Break. YESTERDAY'S RECAP Miami dropped a 3-1 decision to San Diego, completing the season series against the Padres with a 2-5 record. After falling behind 3-0 through six innings, Miguel Rojas broke up Clayton Richard's no-hitter with a single to center field. JT Riddle followed and singled to right to score the Marlins only run of the game. José Ureña went 6.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits without walking a batter and striking out five. VS. SAN FRANCISCO The Marlins took the 2017 season series, 5-1, sweeping a three-game series at AT&T Park from July 7-9, and taking two of three at Marlins Park from August 14-16. Miami has gone 10-9 against the Giants at Marlins Park since 2012, and own a 41-51 mark all-time in South Florida. The all-time series is in favor of San Francisco, 106-81. 10'S ACROSS THE BOARD The Marlins offense put up 10-or-more hits in each of the six games against the Giants last season. The six straight games with 10+ hits against any one opponent is the longest such streak by the Marlins since recording an eight-game run against the Orioles from June 22, 2006-May 22, 2015. The last time the Marlins had a streak longer than six games against an NL opponent was in 2009 against the Nationals (nine). - Stats LLC INTERNATIONAL APPEAL Wei-Yin Chen is making his 157th career appearance (153rd career start) with his start against the Giants tonight. Among pitchers born in Taiwan, Chen leads all in innings pitched (898.1), starts, and strikeouts (698). He ranks second in career wins with 54, behind Chien-Ming Wang (68). Wang ranks second in innings pitched (845.2), starts (126), and strikeouts (394). ASTRONOMICAL SPLITS Coming into this season, Wei-Yin Chen hadn't fared much different at home and on the road over his career, posting a home record of 25-16 with a 4.07 ERA (435.2 ip/197 er) in 73 appearances, and road marks of 28-22, 3.73 (427.1/177) in 75 appearances. This season, however, there is a significant difference, as his ERA at Marlins Park is 1.06, while his road ERA is 10.31. It is the largest difference between road/home ERA's in the Majors (9.25), ahead of Jake Faria (8.14/2.70; 5.44). - Stats LLC HOT TICKET Last night Brian Anderson went 0x3 with a walk to snap his career hightying seven-game hitting streak. Since April 20, he has hit.330 (59x179) with 18 multi-hit games. His average in that span ranks seventh in the NL, behind league-leader Brandon Crawford (.376; 62x165). He is hitting.452 (14x31) with three doubles, a triple, one home run and six RBI over his last eight games. THE CLAW Since May 11, Kyle Barraclough has made 12 scoreless appearances (11.2 IP) with just one hit allowed (.028 average against). His streak is the third-longest by a Marlins pitcher this season, trailing Caleb Smith's 15.2 (April 22-May 10) and Jarlin Garcia's 14.0 (April 11-23). SHRIMPIN' AINT EASY Isan Diaz, Miami's no. 7 prospect according to MLB.com, was named the Southern League Player of the Week this afternoon.
