We have quite a few residents that love getting outside for some fresh air and sunshine. Pictured above are Mildred Etnyre and Emilea Castro with their hats from the Mother s Day Banquet.

On Saturday, August 1, 2015 a group with the Americorp came out to Big Meadows to do some volunteer work. They cleaned up our courtyard, led trivia, ate lunch with the residents, spent some 1 on 1 time with a few residents, had a popsicle and played UNO with the residents. Americorp is a 10 month National Service Program. The group consists of 9-12 team members aged 18-24. They are based out of Vinton, Iowa and travel to 10 Midwest states doing community service work. They spent five weeks camping at Palisades Park here in Savanna where they worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers, YMCA, Jo Davies Soil and Water Conservation, and the Army Depot. They headed out Sunday, August 2 to Chicago to work for the next six weeks. And will be living just north of Wrigley Field! Thank you Americorp for your work here, the residents enjoyed your visit! Our Annual Cupcake Wars took place Monday, August 17. We had six varieties of cupcakes. Pictured to the left top L to R: 1. M&M by Michelle Boyer, 2. peanut butter and jelly, 3. Rumchata both by Jaime Zastrow, bottom L to R: 4. Raspberry Lemonade Cooler (the winner) by Lois Moore, 5. root beer float by Pam Darrow, and 6. tie dye by Becky Wiebenga. Thank you to all those who participated!

We celebrated National Senior Citizen Day Friday, August 21, 2015 with a beach day! We grilled out and had beach themed activities outside for the residents. The residents enjoyed the sun, sand, and shade. What great August weather we ve been having, great for picnics. On Tuesday, August 25, 2015 five of our residents enjoyed a picnic lunch at Old Mill Park in Savanna. They had turkey and cheese sandwiches, potato chips, vanilla pudding, Oreos and bottled water. Pictured below left to right are: Rosemary Shafer, Dennis Rose, Marlyce Yeager, Shirley Eckman, and Bernadine Tenley.
