Besides improvements to the Club`s facilities your Management Committee has been looking at the bowling activities to include the shorter version of the game of bowls that appeal to the younger generation. Trialing this in 2017 proved to be very successful. It is essential to the Club that this direction continues. Community Bowls has been low in numbers lately and much thought must be given to combine this previous successful game of bowls to twilight bowling of the shorter version of bowls. It is common to say you learn from experience but you can also learn from the experience from the very successful clubs. It is absolutely necessary that we have different types of membership for example, Traditional Bowlers, Jack Attack Bowlers and Twilight Bowlers. It is just as essential that the Traditional Bowlers and the Twilight Bowlers, (Community Bowlers) be full members of the Club. This would allow this group to play at any time. Jack Attack Bowlers would be members that could progress to Full Members of the Club. This is proving to be a successful path taken by other clubs. Progress to install the lift is as follows. Rockhampton Bowls Club Inc. Newsletter. Page 3
The lift well will be completed by the end of January. The lift will be built and delivered to Rockhampton by early February and installed by the end of February. Other work completed or to be completed is. The air conditioners upstairs will be operational by the end of January. The larger guttering and downpipes has been completed. The larger electrical mains will be connected to the clubhouse in the next week or so. It would be advisable not to start on any new projects for the next six months or so and allow the club to consolidate their finances. This would also allow the new committees to complete the next 5 year plan. This plan must be started this month and completed by mid February. O n th e ro a d w it h M ic h e ll e L a n d ry M P Happy New Year! I hope your Christmas break was relaxing and enjoyable. I spent Christmas with family and enjoyed some relaxing downtime. The end of 2017 was especially busy, with the final sitting week of Parliament and a number of events throughout the electorate. We delivered a Tropical Pines Yeppoon Pineapple to every Senator and Member in Parliament - including the re-elected leader of The Nationals, Barnaby Joyce - to showcase our wonderful region. I was blown away by the incredible artworks on display at the Yeppoon carpark facade art unveiling. The indigenous work was inspired by Darumbal elder Doug Hatfield s 1989 painting Turtle Hunters. There are also other fabulous artworks on display in the carpark and along the Coast from many locals including Edward Clark, Bill & Luke Gannon, Martin Schlick, Mark Cations, Simon McLean and the Yarn Bombers.
