FISH BITES MIAMI MARLINS (30-47) LHP CALEB SMITH (5-6, 4.03) at COLORADO ROCKIES (38-39) GERMAN MARQUEZ (5-7, 5.20) COORS FIELD, DENVER, CO SUNDAY, JUNE 24, 2018 3:10 P.M. ET GAME 78 ROAD GAME 43 (16-26) TODAY'S BROADCASTS TV: FSFL RADIO: WINZ (940AM) / WAQI (710AM) The Marlins and Rockies conclude their season series today with the rubber match of this three-game set at 3:10 p.m. ET. Miami is sending left-hander Caleb Smith to the mound in search of the series and season-series win. He earned a win in his only career start against the Rockies, on April 29 of this season, tossing 7.0 shutout innings and allowing just two hits and a walk, with nine strikeouts. Right-hander German Marquez will get the call for Colorado; he is 0-2, 5.23 in two career starts against Miami. The Marlins opened this 10-day, nine-game road trip in Baltimore (2-1) and San Francisco (1-2), and finish it this weekend in Denver before heading home for a 10-game homestand against Arizona (June 25-28), the Mets (June 29-July 1), and Tampa Bay (July 2-4). YESTERDAY'S RECAP Miami used a five-run seventh inning to propel itself to a 6-2 win over the Rockies yesterday. Derek Dietrich got the Marlins out to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the fourth, but Colorado tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Justin Bour took the lead back with a pinch-hit, RBI single to start the seventh-inning rally, which J.T. Realmuto capped off with a grand slam. Trevor Richards allowed just three hits and two walks over 6.0 innings, striking out eight, to pick up his second win of the year. Richards tied José Fernández (7/23/13) for the third-most strikeouts by a Marlins' starting pitcher at Coors Field, behind Alex Fernandez (10 on 6/8/97) and Ricky Nolasco (9 on 4/24/10). VS. COLORADO Miami is 29-17 (.630) against Colorado since 2012, its best record against any National League opponent in that time. Miami has a 12-10 edge over the Rockies at Coors Field in that time, but a 36-53 record all-time at the venue (42-59 all-time in Denver). The Marlins lead the all-time series, 108-95. A win today would give Miami its seventh straight season-series win over the Rockies. Miami has not lost the season series since going 3-5 in 2008. Additionally, from the Elias Sports Bureau: A win today would tie the longest season-series winning streak in Club history (vs. Toronto; 1997-2009). The longest active season-series streaks in MLB are: Yankees over Minnesota (12, including 2018); Philadelphia over Miami (8, tied 3-3 in 2018); St. Louis over Colorado (8, have not played in 2018); the Dodgers over San Diego (7, LA leads 6-3 this year); and Washington over Arizona (7, including 2018). DYNAMIC DUO Kyle Barraclough and Drew Steckenrider both pitched 1.0 perfect inning yesterday. Barraclough extended his current scoreless inning streak to 17.2 frames, while Steckenrider extended his streak to 14.0 innings. That marks a career-long streak for both pitchers. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it is the first time in Club history that two relief pitchers have had active scoreless streaks of 14.0-plus innings at the same time. DON'T FEED THE BEAR Kyle Barraclough is in the midst of a career-long scoreless streak of 17.2 innings over his last 18 appearances, and a career-long hitless streak of 10.2 innings over his last 11. Also from Stats LLC: Has the longest hitless innings streak by a reliever in the Majors this season. Has second-longest active scoreless streak among all NL pitchers, behind Yoshihisa Hirano (18.1). Has third-longest hitless innings streak by a reliever in Club history, behind Armando Benitez (14.1 in 2004 and 12.0 in 2004). Has allowed just one hit over his last 19 appearances, spanning 18.2 innings. He is the only Major League pitchers since 1920 to record a 19-game span with 15.0-or-more innings pitched and one-or-fewer hits allowed. Since May 1, has limited opponents to a.032 average against (2x63) to lead the Majors (min. 50 BF). Dellin Betances (.110; 8x73) is second, and Aroldis Chapman (.113; 8x71) is third. #KEEPINITREALMUTO J.T. Realmuto has risen to the top of the class since coming off the DL on April 17. For the season, he leads all Major League catchers in hits (68), runs (36), doubles (17), on-base percentage (.365), and slugging percentage (.548), ranks second in average (.308), is tied for second in triples (3), is third in RBI (31) and fourth in home runs (10). Yesterday, he hit his second career grand slam (also, 8/12/15 vs. Boston), the third ever by a Marlin at Coors Field, joining Miguel Cabrera (9/15/07) and Marcell Ozuna (8/22/14). Realmuto has recorded his 100th career double (Friday) and 200th career RBI (yesterday) in this series. STILL FINDING A WAY Brian Anderson went 1x5 yesterday to extend his career-best on-base streak to 20 games, the longest run on the team this season. It is the second-longest active streak in the NL, behind Jose Peraza (22), and the second longest all season by a rookie, behind Jesse Winker (22 from April 10-May 6). Anderson is batting.333 (27x81) with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI, 10 walks to just 15 strikeouts, and a.409 on-base percentage during the streak, which began on June 2. - Stats LLC DIETZ HAVING A HALF Derek Dietrich, who was 1x3 with a home run yesterday, is batting.384 (28x73) since May 31, with five doubles, five home runs, and nine RBI. That is the fourth-highest average in the Majors since that date (min. 64 PA). Dietrich has 75 hits, a new careerhigh prior to the All-Star break, surpassing his former high of 70 in 2016. He also has 20 multi-hit games this year, already just six shy of tying his career high for a single season (2016 & '17). Dietrich is batting.292 (75x257) overall this season, which ranks 17th in the National League. He has homered in two straight games, the fourth time in his career he has homered in back-to-back games (he has never homered in three straight games). LIFE ON THE ROAD OPPONENT O MARLINS VS. Had a solid outing on April 22 at Milwaukee, despite taking a loss. Limited Brewers to two hits and two runs over 6.0 innings (a career high until his next start), with no walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts.
