Moon Drops - began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn (500m) before shifting out to obtain clear running inside the 400m. Chaff Bandit - dipped shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover. Thunder Cloud - held up rounding the home turn (500m) before shifting out to obtain clear running inside the 400m. Red Is The Rose - rider Regan Bayliss was of the view that the filly would be better suited on a track with more give. Club Tropicana - rider Chris Symons said that the filly had difficulty running out todays distance and may be better suited placed in races of a shorter distance with speed on. Race 2 - M & D Dillon Constructions Handicap - 1400 metres: Taylahs Secret - rider Brandon Stockdale could offer no explanation for the performance which was below market expectations. When questioned, trainer Mr Pat Carey explained the mare had an uninterrupted preparation leading up to todays event and was presented fit to race today. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. A swab sample was also taken for analysis. Race 3 - MyPunter.com.au Handicap - 1400 metres: Bossy Miss - connections advised would be ridden back from the wide gate in an effort to finish the race off; settled at the rear of the field. Failed to negotiate the turn at the 800m, got its head up and shifted out and had to be checked severely to avoid the heels of Miss Sydney and in the process inconvenienced Effortless Power. Rider Brian Higgins said his mount jumped away awkwardly and was then unable to display the necessary speed to take up a forward position and in his view the mare had not backed up from its last start at Ballarat on January 31 st. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 4 - Thoroughbred Club Handicap - 1200 metres: Comic Set - fractious in its starting stall prior to the start. Another Coldie - raced wide without cover. Kaching - had to be eased and shift out near the 200m when having some difficulty obtaining clear running. Held up when making ground over the concluding stages. When questioned, apprentice Ben Thompson said he was instructed to try and have his mount mid-field, bearing in mind the colt was first up from a spell over 1200m. He added that when the start was effected his mount jumped awkwardly with its head up and was then checked when tightened for room between Casque and Dazzys Day, both of which shifted ground. Trainer Mr Ciaron Maher explained that the colt had not had a jump out leading into todays race and he expected it to finish the race off, given the short distance of 1200m today and confirmed the instructions that were given. Race 5 - Ladbrokes up for the Challenge Handicap - 1300 metres: Malaise - rider Craig Williams said his mount is a three year old colt which was taking on older and more experienced horses today, however he was pleased with the manner in which his mount fought through to the finish. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 6 - OTI Tour of Victoria Distance Series - 2100 metres: Anuradha - late withdrawal by order of Stewards at 7.45am and trainer Mr Ryan Balfour was fined $300 for failing to scratch by the prescribed time. Treasure Map - tightened for room near the 1800m by Gold Seal, which shifted in and away from Quarry Rock (NZ) which also shifted in before being straightened. Duke Of Boneo (NZ) - tightened for room near the 1800m when initially taken out slightly by Spur On Gold and then Deliberate shifted in before being straightened. Gilago - unable to improve its position rounding the home turn (500m) and then had difficulty in the early part of the straight before gaining clear running passing the 200m.
Playful Rosie - apprentice rider Beau Mertens stated that, despite his efforts, his mount raced too keenly in the early and middle stages and his chances were then lessened when pressured by Our Bazaar passing the 1400m. Race 7 - Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 1600 metres: Vantaggio - connections advised would be ridden quieter from the wide gate; settled midfield with cover. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported the gelding had heat stress. Musee Des Arts - got unbalanced on the point of the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the straight. When questioned, apprentice Brandon Stockdale explained that it was not the prerace plan to get back in the field today but as the race unfolded in the early stages, he was left with no option but to go back or be caught wide without cover. No Commitment (NZ) - when questioned, rider Ben Allen explained that he did get further back than planned but reiterated the gelding raced closer at its last start due to no speed in the race.
