HANDICAP - 1800 metres: As no other apprentice was available, Stewards permitted B Wallace to ride Split The Faith claiming 2kg and not his full 3kg allowance in this event. B Wallace was fined $200. Prior to the start of the race trainer Mr D Hayes advised that Green Roller would be ridden quiet out of the barriers. Green Roller was slow to begin and settled at the rear of the field. Sapphire Princess jumped away awkwardly. In the early stages Freezy (IRE) over-raced. In the straight Circle The Globe had a tendency to lay out under pressure. After the running of the race C Schofield, rider of Green Roller, fourth passed the post, weighed in more than a half kilogram under his declared weight of 57 ½ kgs. Acting under AR143(a) Stewards disqualified Green Roller as fourth placegetter and amended the placing s to Freezy (IRE) first place, Bec Said No Credit second place, Chateau Latour third place and Split The Faith fourth place, before declaring correct weight. At a later inquiry, apprentice C Schofield pleaded guilty to a charge under AR143 in that subsequent to the race he weighed in more than a half kilogram under his declared weight. Acting under AR143(b), C

Schofield was fined $1500. In arriving at this penalty Stewards were satisfied that it was highly probable that C Schofield failed to include two pieces of lead into his pound pad/lead bag after having weighed out with the lead. A post race veterinary examination of Circle The Globe revealed no abnormalities. Race 2 WELLINGTON R.C. HANDICAP - 2000 metres: Apprentice C Schofield (Friday Hussy) pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding under the provisions of AR137a, the improper riding being that passing the 1400m he deliberately rode his mount in onto Kolokotronis thereby making contact with that gelding and forcing that gelding in off its course. In arriving at this decision Stewards took into account that over approximately 200m prior to this incident Friday Hussay shifted in towards Kolokotronis on two occasions, making contact with Kolokotronis and that on both of these occasions Kolokotronis did shift out towards Friday Hussy. C Schofield had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 3 and to expire at midnight April 28, a total of twenty-seven race meetings (7 city, 20 country). In arriving at this penalty Stewards took into account C Schofield s guilty plea. A post race veterinary examination of Kolokotronis revealed no abnormalities. Race 3 JRA HANDICAP- 1200 metres: Some Class was slow to begin. M Rodd, rider of Felidea which performed below expectations, stated that in his opinion the horse did not appreciate racing inside other runners and would be better suited to 1400m. A post race veterinary examination of Felidea failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 4 SELANGOR TURF CLUB HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Trainer Mr S Brown was fined $100 for failing to produce the identification card for Sea Horse. Titania Star knuckled on jumping away shifted out and brushed Yuleba which shifted out tightening Speedy Holly out onto Lady Blackman resulting in Lady Blackman having to be checked. Shortly after this Talk Of Angels was hampered when tightened for room by Speedy Holly, which had shifted out, and Sheza Single Girl which shifted in away from Navorina. Approaching the 800m Beach Front, which was shifting in, had to be eased off the heels of Sheza Single Girl which shifted out. J Duffy, rider of Talk Of Angels, stated that the filly could not take up a forward position due to the early pace of today s race. J Noonan reported at scale that in his opinion there was something amiss with Navorina. A subsequent veterinary examination of Navorina revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr A Noonan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Navorina racing again. C Schofield rider of Lady Blackman reported that there may be something amiss with the filly. A subsequent veterinary examination of Lady Blackman revealed no abnormalities. Race 5 SANDOWN PARK (UK) HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Sutanoc jumped away awkwardly.

Signal Fire also jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Redangelo. Near the 700m Prussian Power shifted out and inconvenienced Sutanoc. At the entrance to the straight Awaken The Dragon (NZ) had to shift in to avoid the heels of What A Treat. Near the 250m Redangelo had to be eased when disappointed for a run between Prussian Power and Rockshaft which shifted out. Redangelo was then held up for clear running for a short distance. Race 6 BMW HANDICAP- 1200 metres: Prior to the running of Race 3 connections advised that Reigning Lass would be ridden quieter today in an attempt to finish the race off. Reigning Lass over-raced early four wide without cover and weakened in the straight. Trainers Mr B McCarthy and Mr L Oliver were each fined $100 for their late declarations of riders J Beriman on Pixie Eyes and K Mallyon on Suite Succes in this event. Unscrupulous stood flat footed and missed the start by several lengths. Co-trainer Mr C Ledger was advised that the mare must perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an organised trial prior to racing again. Shortly after the start Notice Received (NZ) and Martindale Hall were hampered when tightened for room between Codice Fiscale (NZ) and Al Maisan due to both horses shifting ground. Al Maisan raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, bunscrupulous and Notice Received (NZ) were held up when unable to obtain clear running. D Lane (Unscrupulous) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless being that passing the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of Cinnamon Sticks resulting in that mare having to be checked to avoid his mounts heels, he then continued to ride out and made contact with Reigning Lass resulting in that mare becoming unbalanced. D Lane had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 12 and to expire at midnight April 26, a total of fourteen meetings which is to be served cumulatively with the suspension he incurred at Caulfield on March 30. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Suite Success today, trainer Mr L Oliver stated that he was disappointed in the way the horse was ridden last start at Geelong, and the mare may not have handled the synthetic track, however was pleased with the mare s performance and expected a forward showing today. Mr Oliver added that his instructions to K Mallyon today were similar to that of last start which was to ride behind the speed with cover. He added that with the change of tactics of Reigning Lass which was being ridden more conservatively today, and with the advantage of barrier 1 for Suite Success the mare was able to take up a forward position. Mr Oliver stated that he had supported Suite Success at Geelong and expected a good performance today. Race 7 SPORTINGBET HANDICAP- 1200 metres: On jumping away Electric Fusion and Mareeza came together.

Shortly after the start Coins, which had jumped away awkwardly, then had to be checked when tightened for room between Samuelsson, which shifted out slightly, and Rock Vantage which shifted in away from Bon Vacance. Magnus Reign and Mareeza raced wide without cover. Coins over-race in the early stages. Passing the 800m Rock Vantage had to be eased off the heels of Bon Vacance, which shifted in away from Magnus Reign. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Ephemera was held up for a clear run. On straightening Magnus Reign, which had a tendency to lay in away from Mareeza, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Stars In The Sky (J Mott) which was shifting out under pressure. After taking into account that Magnus Reign was laying in, the Stewards severely reprimanded J Mott and notified him to exercise far more care than he did on this occasion. In the incident Electric Fusion, which was following had to be checked in consequence. Electric Fusion was then held up for clear running until near the 200m. C Schofield reported that Bon Vacance over-raced. A post race veterinary examination of Bon Vacance revealed no abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Bishops Castle (NZ) revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 8 GUINOT INTERNATIONAL HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Skating For Gold jumped away awkwardly and then had to be eased shortly after the start between Northern Edge and Severn Road, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start Roman Eye had to be eased when tightened for room between Northern Edge and Lord Durante, which was taken out by Poitier. In the early and middle stages Roman Eye, Lord Durante and Skating For Gold all over-raced. Near the 900m Skating For Gold, which was over-racing, shifted out and inconvenienced Daybreak. In the middle stages Northern Edge, Beneficiary and Stanzior all raced wide without cover. On the home turn Stanzior, which was laying out, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Secret Toy Bizness which shifted in slightly. A post race veterinary examination of Al Ragno failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Skating For Gold revealed the gelding to have respiratory distress and trainer Ms J Thompson was advised that she must obtain a veterinary clearance together with the satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination prior to Skating For Gold being permitted to race again.
