FISH BITES The Marlins open the final leg of this 10-day, nine-game road trip tonight with the first of three games against the Rockies at Coors Field. Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen will make the start for Miami. He is 1-1 with a 7.07 ERA (14.0 ip/11 er) in three career starts against the Rockies, including a 4-1 win in his 2018 debut back on April 28 (5.1 ip, 4 h, r, er, 2 bb, 3 so, hr). The Rox will counter with Jon Gray, who is 1-2, 6.75 (21.1/16) in four careers starts against Miami. The Marlins opened this 10-day, nine-game road trip in Baltimore (2-1) and San Francisco (1-2), and finish it this weekend in Denver before heading home for a 10-game homestand against Arizona (June 25-28), the Mets (June 29-July 1), and Tampa Bay (July 2-4). WEDNESDAY'S RECAP Miami scored twice in its final at-bat, but it was one less than it needed in a 6-5 loss to the Giants at AT&T Park. The Marlins got out to a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by Miguel Rojas (3x4), but a five-run sixth by San Fran put the game just out of reach. Brian Anderson (3x5, RBI) also had a three-hit game for Miami, Starlin Castro was 1x4 with two RBI, and Cameron Maybin and Derek Dietrich were both 2x2. TODAY'S TRANSACTION The Marlins today placed José Ureña on the 10-day disabled list (retro to June 21) with right shoulder impingement and returned from rehab and reinstated Nick Wittgren (right middle finger contusion) from the 10-day DL. In three rehab appearances between Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans, he allowed two runs (two solo home runs) over 3.0 innings with no walks and three strikeouts. VS. COLORADO Miami is 28-16 (.636) against Colorado since 2012, its best record against any National League opponent in that time. Miami has an 11-9 edge over the Rockies at Coors Field in that time, but a 35-52 record all-time at the venue (41-58 all-time in Denver). The Marlins lead the all-time series, 107-94. NOTHING COMES EASY Miami is in search of its fourth straight season-series victory over the Rockies, and is 16-7 against them since 2015. Despite the distinct edge in favor of the Marlins, the games have typically been close, with 15 of the 23 match-ups being decided by three runs or fewer, and Miami holding a 3-1 lead in one-run games. The Marlins have a.278 team average and.436 slugging percentage in that time, compared to.254 and.399 for Colorado, respectively. The clubs are much tighter in on-base percentage (.341 for Miami;.340 for Colorado) and even with 22 home runs apiece. - Stats LLC DON'T FEED THE BEAR Kyle Barraclough tossed a perfect ninth inning Monday night, extending his career-long scoreless streak to 16.2 innings over his last 17 appearances, and his career-long hitless streak to 9.2 innings over his last 10. Also from Stats LLC: Tied with Victor Arano (March 30-April 22) for longest hitless innings streak by a reliever in the Majors this season. Has second-longest active scoreless streak among all NL pitchers, behind Yoshihisa Hirano (17.1). Has fourth-longest hitless innings streak by a reliever in Club history, behind Armando Benitez (14.1 in 2004 and 12.0 in 2004) and Ryan Webb (10.1 in 2013). Has allowed just one hit over his last 18 appearances, spanning 17.2 innings. He is one of just two Major League pitchers since 1920 to record an 18-game span with 15.0-or-more innings pitched and one-or-fewer hits allowed, joining Antonio Bastardo, who did so from May 27-July 15, 2011. Since May 1, has limited opponents to a.033 average against (2x60) to lead the Majors. Dellin Betances ranks second at.110, while three players are tied for third at.113. #KEEPINITREALMUTO J.T. Realmuto has risen to the top of the class since coming off the DL on April 17. For the season, he leads all Major League catchers in average (.307), hits (62), runs (32), and slugging percentage (.524), is tied for the lead in doubles (15), ranks second in on-base percentage (.364), is tied for second in triples (3), tied for fourth in home runs (9), and ranks sixth in RBI (27). STILL FINDING A WAY Brian Anderson went 3x5 on Wednesday at San Francisco to extend his career-best on-base streak to 18 games, the longest run on the team this season. It is the second-longest active streak in the NL, behind Jose Peraza (21), and the second longest all season by a rookie, behind Jesse Winker (22 from April 10-May 6). Anderson is batting.352 (25x71) with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI, 10 walks to just 13 strikeouts, and a.434 on-base percentage during the streak, which began on June 2. - Stats LLC DIETZ HAVING A HALF Derek Dietrich, who was 2x2 with a double off the bench on Wednesday at San Francisco, is batting.369 (24x65) since May 31, with four doubles, three home runs, and seven RBI. That is the fifth-highest average in the Majors since that date (min. 61 PA). Dietrich has 71 hits, a new career-high prior to the All-Star break, surpassing his former high of 70 in 2016. He also has 19 multi-hit games this year, already just seven shy of tying his career high for a single season (2016 & '17). Dietrich is batting.285 (71x249) overall this season, which ranks 20th in the National League. TEAM WORK Miami, led by Brian Anderson (36) and Justin Bour (33), have seven players with 25+ RBI this season. That is tied with Atlanta, Boston, Houston, the Dodgers, the Yankees, and Oakland for the most such players in the Majors this year. Lewis Brinson (28), Miguel Rojas (28), J.T. Realmuto (27), Starlin Castro (27), and Derek Dietrich (25) are also on the list for Miami. Began season on DL (left elbow strain). Made two rehab appearances at Single-A Jupiter, allowing just one run over 7.2 innings, with just one walk and 11 strikeouts. In first appearance, April 17 vs. Lakeland, allowed one run and three hits over 2.2 innings. In second start, April 22 vs. St. Lucie, tossed two-hit, 5.0-inning complete game. Struck out seven without issuing a walk. Made season debut on April 28 vs. Colorado, earning a win after allowing just one run on four hits (one home run), two walks, and a hit batter over 5.1 innings, with three strikeouts. Did not earn his second win until his last start, on June 16 at Baltimore. Completed 6.0 innings in that start for the first time since going a season-best 7.1 innings on May 26 vs. Washington, a span of three starts (did not complete 5.0 in between those outings).
