FISH BITES Miami wraps up its seven-game road trip today with the finale of a three-game series at Nationals Park. The Marlins have lost their last five series, after going a stretch of 15 straight series without a series loss from June 5 to July 29. Following today's game, Miami will enjoy an off-day on Monday before beginning a six-game homestand vs. the Yankees (2 G) and the Braves (4 G). Will begin a stretch in which the Marlins play 12 of 14 games at home from August 21-September 5. José Ureña is making his team-leading 25th start of the season and third against the Nationals this season (1-0/3.00). Will be just his second career start at Nationals Park (also, Aug. 28, 2017 - L, 4.0 ip, 5 h, 4 er, 3 bb, 4 k). YESTERDAY'S RECAP Miami snapped their six-game losing streak and 12-game road losing streak with a 7-5 win at Washington. 1B Derek Dietrich put the Marlins on the board with a second-inning solo HR. SS JT Riddle (3x4) recorded his second straight multi-hit game, tying his career high with three hits and four RBI. Riddle tied the game in the fifth, put the Marlins ahead in the sixth, and put the Marlins ahead again in the top of the ninth. OF Isaac Galloway hit a bases-loaded, two-run, go-ahead single in the top of the 10th. LHP Wei-Yin Chen held the Nats to 2 ER in 5.2 innings, with both runs coming on a two-run homer by Trea Turner. Brett Graves recorded his first career save with a scoreless bottom of the 10th, retiring Washington's 3-4-5 hitters. VS. WASHINGTON The Marlins are making their second trip to Nationals Park. Dropped three of four during their first stop in D.C., July 5-8. Miami's win in the series finale halted a 14-game losing streak vs. Washington (their longest against any single opponent) and an eight-game losing streak in the Nation's capital. Have won three of their last four against the Nats and four of the last seven. UP NEXT... VS. THE YANKEES The Marlins are hosting the Yankees in Miami for the first time since 2015. Are 12-14 all time against New York-AL, including a 9-5 record at home. Have won their last four home games against the Yankees, including a two-game sweep June 15-16, 2017. The two teams split a two-game series at Yankee Stadium, April 16-17. EXTRA BASEBALL Last night's win in extra innings was the Marlins' first extra-inning contest on the road this season. Miami is now 8-4 in extrainning affairs this season, winning each of their last five extra-inning games. Last season, Miami went 6-5 in their 11 extra-inning games (3-2 at home; 3-3 on road). Have played their most extra-inning games since 2014 (21). OH MY STARLIN Starlin Castro has collected at least 10 home runs for the eighth straight season, making him one of 18 players to reach the plateau in each season since 2011. Only two other middle infielders have accomplished the feat - Asdrubal Cabrera and Ian Kinsler. Castro also has 134 hits in 2018, surpassing the 130-hit mark in each of his first nine Major League seasons. He joins a list of five other players who debuted in the last 20 years to record 130+ hits in each of his first nine Major League seasons. Also, Carlos Lee (14, 1999-2012); Robinson Cano (13, 2005-17); Ichiro Suzuki (13, 2001-13); Albert Pujols (12, 2001-12) and Mark Teixeira (9, 2003-11). DEAN DINGER Austin Dean collected his first Major League hit in Friday's loss at Washington, a seventh-inning solo home run off Trevor Gott. Dean became the 11th Marlin in franchise history to homer for his first MLB hit, first since John Baker on July 10, 1998 at Dodger Stadium. Dean was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans and made his Major League debut starting in left field, becoming the ninth Miami player to make his Major League debut this season. On Monday, Dean was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for August 6-12. ROAD WELL TRAVELED J.T. Realmuto (.302) and Derek Dietrich (.301) rank 16th and 17th in road avg. among NL hitters this season, respectively. Since May 20, Dietrich ranks second in Major League Baseball in road average (.359; 51x142), is tied for second in runs (32) and ranks third in on-base percentage (.439), slugging (.648) and OPS (1.087). Has hit 11 of his 15 home runs this season away from Marlins Park. Realmuto ranks 11th in the NL on the road this season with a SLG of.541. PROVING HIS WORTH Brian Anderson leads all Major League rookies in games (124), at-bats (480), runs (65), hits (133), average with RISP (.392), and on-base percentage (.354); ranks second in multi-hit games (38), three+-hit games (8), and RBI (54); is tied for second in doubles (26); ranks third in average (.277), slugging (.400), and walks (47); is tied for third in triples (3); and tied for 12th in HR (9). On the defensive side, he leads all rookie outfielders with a.994 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 176 total chances. He also owns 8 outfield assists, most among all ML rookie outfielders and just two off the Major league lead shared by MIL Lorenzo Cain, CIN Billy Hamilton, SEA Mitch Haniger and PIT Starling Marte. He is on pace for 172 hits this season, which would rank as the second-most by a National League rookie since 2008, behind Corey Seager's 193 in 2016, and would be ninth-most by an NL rookie since 2000. He recorded 109 hits before the All-Star break, tying Rocco Baldelli for the second-most by a Major League rookie since 2003, behind only Hideki Matsui (114 in 2003). He is the only Marlins rookie in franchise history to record 100+ hits prior to the break. Anderson recorded 101 hits over his first 92 games of the season. Since 1958, 34 rookies have recorded 100+ hits in 92-or-fewer games and went on to win Rookie of the Year honors, including most recently Aaron Judge (2017), Corey Seager (2016), Carlos Correa (2015), José Abreu (2014), Mike Trout (2012) and Buster Posey (2010).- Stats LLC WELCOME BACK Miami-Dade County students are Just Gettin' Started tomorrow as school is back in session. Over his career, has gone 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA (34.1 ip/16 er) in 10 appearances (four starts) against the Nationals. This afternoon will mark his third start against the Nats this season; he allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and season high tying seven strikeouts on May 25 at Marlins Park, and followed with 6.0 shutout innings in July 29 win at Marlins Park. In last start, August 15 at SunTrust Park, made one pitch before being ejected after hitting Ronald Acuna Jr. According to Stats LLC, he was the first starter in the live-ball era to hit a batter on the only pitch he threw. The only other starters to hit the only batter they faced were Bob Shaw (1965), Scott Elarton (2001) and John Lackey (2009). Was handed six-game suspension on Thursday and is currently appealing. Suffering from the lowest run support average of any starter in the Majors (min. 20 GS) at 2.79. Only four starts this season has he left the game with more run support than runs allowed, and he has allowed three-or-fewer runs 12 times. Snapped streak of 14 consecutive home starts without a win on July 29 vs. Washington. Allowed just one hit and four walks, with five strikeouts, over 6.0 scoreless innings.
