Miami added another run in the seventh when Brian Anderson scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Derek Dietrich. JT Riddle put the game out of reach with a two-run, pinch-hit home run in the eighth, and Starlin Castro added another insurance run with two-out RBI single. Dean tallied his first career three-hit game, and Anderson, Castro, and Magneuris Sierra added two hits apiece. THE BRAVES Tonight begins the second meeting between the division rivals in the last week, as Miami was swept in a four-game series at SunTrust Park from August 13-15, and the final meeting of the 2018 season series. The Marlins have dropped six straight to the Braves and trail the season series, 3-12. The six straight losses to the Braves are the most since a six game slide from May 15-August 8, 2015. BACK ON THE BUMP Elieser Hernandez is making his sixth start of the season tonight and first since June 26 vs. Arizona. Over his first three starts of the season, the young Venezuelan went 0-2 despite a 2.40, allowing just four runs over 15.0 innings pitched. Over his last two starts, however, he is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA (7.0 ip/7 er). NOT SHORT ON POWER With his three-run home run last night, Miguel Rojas added to his single-season career best, eclipsing a previous high of one in each of his first four seasons. He now has 10 home runs on the season and is the first Marlins shortstop to record 10+ home runs since Jose Reyes hit 11 in 2012. HOME FIRES BURNING Over their last 10 home games since July 28, the Marlins have posted a 2.63 ERA (96.0 ip/28 er) to mark the lowest ERA among National League staffs (third in MLB) at home in that span. They have limited opponents to a.205 average against, tops in the NL and third in the Majors to Boston (.202) and Oakland (.202). Starters have allowed three-or-fewer runs eight times, including six starts of two-or-less runs allowed, and posted a 2.65 ERA (57.2/17), while the bullpen has allowed 11 runs over 38.1 innings pitched for a 2.58 ERA. PROVING HIS WORTH Brian Anderson leads all Major League rookies in games (127), at-bats (493), runs (68), hits (137), average with RISP (.385), and on-base percentage (.357); is tied for first in multi-hit games (39); ranks second in walks (50), three+-hit games (8), and RBI (54); is tied for second in doubles (26); ranks third in average (.278) and slugging (.398); is tied for third in triples (3); and tied for 12th in HR (9). He is on pace for 173 hits this season, which would rank as the second-most by a National League rookie since 2008, behind Corey Seager's 193 in 2016, and would be 10th-most by an NL rookie since 2000. He recorded 109 hits before the All-Star break, tying Rocco Baldelli for the second-most by a Major League rookie since 2003, behind only Hideki Matsui (114 in 2003). He is the only Marlins rookie in franchise history to record 100+ hits prior to the break. Anderson recorded 101 hits over his first 92 games of the season.
