Greensboro is coming off a shutout win in Lakewood to avoid a sweep, and West Virginia comes to down after consecutive rain outs in Lexington. The Power have lost four straight games and nine of their last 11 entering this weekend s series in Greensboro. The Hoppers and Power are slated to play six total games in 2018. Hoppers Hurlers: Trevor Rogers, 20, makes his third career start and second at home. He has worked 3.0 innings in each of his first two starts, striking out a total of nine batters while walking three in his 6.0 innings of work in 2018. The Marlins selected Rogers in the first round (13th overall) in the June 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Carlsbad (N.M.) High School. The 6 6 left-hander signed for $3.4M following a High-School All-American First Team season in 2017. He entered the season as Miami s No. 5 Prospect according to MLB.com. In his final season at Carlsbad High, he went 11-0 with a 0.33 ERA, 134 strikeouts and 13 walks while throwing three no-hitters. About Last Night: Ryan Lillie tossed a second straight complete-game shutout in a fog-shortened win, 2-0, at Lakewood on Thursday. Play halted in the middle of the seventh inning when the fog thickened. Zach Sullivan drove in the game's only runs in the top of the fifth inning, belting a 2-run home run (2) to score Cameron Baranek. Lillie (4-1) struck out four while walking none and working around three hits in 6.0 innings. He opened by retiring the first 10 batters he faced. Kyle Young (1-2) took the loss, working all 7.0 innings for Lakewood, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Lakewood manager Marty Malloy was ejected in the middle of the seventh, arguing the game should have continued. Lillie Lille!: One night after Lakewood s Will Stewart tossed a complete-game shutout, Ryan Lillie fired his second gem of the season, working all 6.0 innings of Thursday s fog-shortened win in Lakewood. Lillie tossed a complete-game shutout in his previous start as well, a 7.0-inning gem in Game 1 of a May 26 doubleheader at Hagerstown. He is the first Sally League starter with two complete-game shutouts this season and one of only two in the league with two complete games, along with Kannapolis John Parke. Lillie ranks tied for fourth in the SAL with a 0.94 WHIP. Lil ERA in May: Ryan Lillie lowered his ERA to 2.38 this season and finished May with a 1.56 ERA (6 ER/34.2 IP) and 32 strikeouts in six games (six starts). In his last five starts, he is 3-1 with a 0.92 ERA (3 ER/29.1 IP) since May 7. Lillie has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts since May 12, posting a 0.78 ERA (2 ER/23.0 IP) in that span. Scoreless Streak Snapped: When Zach Sullivan hit a fifth-inning home run on Thursday, Greensboro snapped its 20-inning scoreless streak, dating back to the Tuesday s series opener in Lakewood. The Hoppers did not score in the final seven innings on Tuesday, all nine innings on Wednesday, and the first four innings on Thursday the team s longest drought of the season. No Free Passes: For the 10th time in 2018, Greensboro pitching allowed no walks to the opposition in Ryan Lillie s complete-game shutout win on Thursday in Lakewood. The three new inductees will be honored as part of the festivities surrounding the 59th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, scheduled to be played on June 19, 2018, at First National Bank Field, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. This year s class includes three Greensboro natives: a former player in the Western Carolina League, a former mayor and a current executive. Former Hickory Rebels player Ken Free, Former Greensboro Mayor Jim Melvin, and Greensboro Grasshopper President and General Manager Donald Moore will be inducted. A lifelong Greensboro resident who is in his 17th year as President/GM of the Greensboro club, Donald Moore has been recognized as the SAL Executive of the Year four times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013). Under Donald s leadership, the Grasshoppers have received the SAL Club Merit Award five times (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013), the SAL Community Service Award three times (2014, 2015, 2016) and the Bob Freitas Award, given by Baseball America to the best Class-A organization, in 2008. Donald also serves as chairman of the SAL Scheduling Committee and is also the founder and President of the North Carolina Association of Professional Baseball Teams (NCAPBT), which consists of the 10 minor league teams in North Carolina. Moore was inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 for his outstanding service to the community through his work with the Grasshoppers and many other youth sports initiatives he has been a part of in his lifetime. Hoppers Hurlers: Trevor Rogers, 20, makes his professional debut against Kannapolis after being selected by the Marlins in the first round (13th overall) in the June 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Carlsbad (N.M.) High School. The 6 6 left-hander signed for $3.4M following a High-School All-American First Team season in 2017. He is Miami s No. 5 Prospect according to MLB.com. In his final season at Carlsbad High, he went 11-0 with a 0.33 ERA, 134 strikeouts and 13 walks while throwing three no-hitters. NOT A FAN OF BEING FANNED The Grasshoppers struck out a season-high 15 times on Saturday, May 19, against Lakewood. Greensboro previously fanned 13 times in five games this season. May 19 vs. Lakewood 15 strikeouts May 17 vs. Lakewood 13 strikeouts May 12 at Augusta 13 strikeouts May 11 at Asheville 13 strikeouts April 18 at Lakewood 13 strikeouts April 10 vs. Augusta 13 strikeouts LILLIE LILLIE! Ryan Lillie tossed 7.0 shutout innings with eight strikeouts to pitch Greensboro past Augusta in the team s first game at the new SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. The right hander worked around three hits and walked no batters in a 3-1 win for the Grasshoppers. Lillie threw 88 pitches with 62 strikes en route to the win, improving to 2-1. JONES DEBUTS WITH PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS Thomas Jones was named the first weekly award winner for the Grasshoppers this season, winning South Atlantic League Player of the Week honors for April 30-May 6, his first week with the team. He hit.350 (7-20) with a double, four home runs, six RBI, and eight runs scored in five games with Greensboro, starting with his debut on May 2. JONESING FOR OFFENSE When it comes to first impressions, no Hopper has made a bigger or better one than outfielder Thomas Jones, who joined the team May 2. In his first three games with Greensboro (May 2-4), he went 2-for-4 in each game with at least one home run in all contests. In total, he hit four home runs in three games while batting.500 (6-12) with a double and six RBI. The Marlins selected Jones, now 20 years old, in the third round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Laurens (S.C.) High School. WALKING OFF THE SUNS Michael Hernandez gave the Grasshoppers their first walk-off home run of the season on May 2 as part of his career day, driving in four runs in an 10-8 win over the Hagerstown Suns. Hernandez finished 3-for- 5 with a pair of RBI-singles to go along with his game-winning 2-run home run off Jared Brasher with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. It was the Grasshoppers second walk-off win of the season and seventh win in the final at-bats during the 2018 season. IT S MILLER TIME Brandon Miller opened his May 1 start against the Suns by retiring the first 16 batters faced, taking a perfect game one out into the sixth inning in his fifth start of the season. Hagerstown eventually caught up to Miller, chasing him from the game after 5.1 innings pitched. The right-hander took no decision that day, allowing four runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in the outing. EVERYBODY HITS All nine batters hit safely for the first time in 2018 when Greensboro fought off Asheville, 11-7 in 10 innings, on April 29. Infielders Jose Devers and Lazaro Alonso led the 16-hit charge with three hits each as the Grasshoppers batted around in the top of the 10th for a 7-run inning. In the big frame, the team collected six hits, including four doubles, to run away from the Tourists after Asheville rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force the extra inning.

BEGGS BAFFLES BATTERS Dustin Beggs dominated out of the bullpen on April 27 at Asheville, striking out eight batters over 3.0 nearly-perfect innings of work. He struck out the first six batters he faced in perfect sixth and seventh innings. After inducing a groundout to open the bottom of the eighth and allowing a base hit the lone batter to reach against him on the night the righthander fanned the final two batters he faced to close his outing. Greensboro fell to Asheville, 3-2. SHARP STINGER AGAINST THE GREENJACKETS: In their first series against the new-look Augusta GreenJackets, Greensboro was stung early as Malique Ziegler led off the game for Augusta with a first-pitch home run off Hoppers starting pitcher Taylor Braley. The GreenJackets hit two home runs in the opening frame, with Ryan Kirby adding a 2-run blast, en route to a 7-4 lead over the Grasshoppers.
