Kannapolis has now won seven in a row, matching the longest streak since April 2011, a streak that started in Lakewood against the BlueClaws. Today the Intimidators send Erik Johnson to the mound for his first start of the season. The White Sox selected Johnson in the second round of the 2011 draft (80th overall), and he entered this season rated by Baseball America as the White Sox No. 13 Prospect in the system. The right-hander helped lead the California Golden Bears to the 2011 College World Series as a junior. Triple Threat: The addition of second rounder RHP Erik Johnson to the Intimidators roster has now put the White Sox top three selections from the June 2011 First Year Player Draft in Kannapolis. Top pick outfielder Keenyn Walker (47th overall) opened the season with Kannapolis, and third rounder RHP Jeff Soptic joined the roster last week from Extended Spring Training. The Intimidators roster also features 2011 fifth rounder LHP Scott Snodgress, seventh rounder catcher Kevan Smith and ninth round pick LHP Matt Lane. Winning Streak: The Intimidators seven-game winning streak matches a streak from April 10-15, 2011. If the Intimidators win today, they will have their longest winning streak since a 12-gamer from August 15-27, 2009, when the team won the Northern Division 2nd Half and made the SAL Post-Season. About Last Night: Kannapolis beat Lakewood 10-7 in win its seventh straight. Down 7-6 with one out and runners on the corners in the bottom of the eighth, Lakewood reliever Jim Birmingham's throwing error to second base allowed the tying run to score from third. Bill Rice reached on an infield single to load the bases. David Herbek, Garis Pena and Keenyn Walker all drew bases loaded walks off Birmingham to pull ahead for the first time, 10-7. Bryan Blough (1-1) worked a scoreless eighth inning and gave up a leadoff single in the ninth before striking out the final three batters to slam the door and earn the win. On The Mark: Right fielder Mark Haddow extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a 3-run home run (4) in the fifth inning to pull the Intimidators within a run against Lakewood on Thursday. Haddow is two games shy of equaling the longest hitting streak of the season in the SAL (West Virginia s Alen Hanson: 16 games). Haddow is batting.431 (22-51) in that time and.330 (64-194) on the season, the seventh-best average in the league. It s the third hitting streak by an Intimidator of at least 10 games this season (Rangel Ravelo and Ross Wilson each have accomplished the feat in 2012). Haddow has reached base in 18 straight home games, dating back to April 20 against Lexington. In those 18 games at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, he is batting.415 (27-65) with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 14 RBI. When Walker Runs: Keenyn Walker, the White Sox top draft pick in 2011 (47th overall), stole two bases on Friday night, giving him 29 stolen bases on the season, the second-most in the SAL (Lexington s Delino DeShields Jr. has 32). Walker stole third base on Friday night, the seventh time he s swiped third in 2012. Saved By The Blough: Closer Bryan Blough earned his first win of the season with two scoreless frames to finish Friday s game, striking out the final three batters to end the game. He has recorded saves in his three previous appearances before Friday. Despite early season struggles -- he was 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA (7 ER/10 IP) and failed to convert all four save opportunities in seven games in April) he has been dominant in 11 appearances since, posting a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/14 IP) and holding opposing batters to a.133 average (6-45). Games Decided In Final At-Bats: Kannapolis rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take their first lead of the game thanks to three bases-loaded walks by Lakewood s Jim Birminghamg. Kannapolis is now 8-9 in games decided in the final at-bats this season. This is the first time this year the Intimidators have rallied from five runs down in the ninth. One-Run Wonders: The Intimidators won their 10th 1-run game of the season Thursday, improving to 10-5 in 1-run games this season, tied for the third-best winning percentage in the league in those games.
