2 Bike Tire Valve Types The 4MyCycle Mini Bike Pump is equipped to cater for the two popular bike tire valve types. These are: A) Presta B) Schrader The following will assist in identifying the valve type used on your bike: Presta versus Schrader: (Courtesy Wikipedia) Presta valve stems are 6 mm diameter, whereas Schrader valve stems for bicycle tyres are 8 mm, thus requiring a larger diameter hole in a bicycle rim. While not a concern on wider bike rims, it will weaken a narrow wheel rim, precluding their use on (road) racing bicycles. The Presta Valve Commonly found on Road Bikes: The Schrader Valve Commonly found on bikes with wider rims such as Mountain, Hybrid, BMX and Cruiser Bikes 2

3 The 4MyCycle Mini Bike Pump head is easily configured for either Presta or Schrader Valves. ** IMPORTANT NOTE The 4MyCycle Mini Bike Pump comes factory-delivered in Schrader configuration. The simple steps for conversion between valve formats involve the following: 1. Undo the Knurled Nut (the Mouth ) of the pump head, 2. Remove the Valve Top and the Valve components. 3. Align these two items to suit the format you require (see diagrams on the following pages) 4. Re-insert these components back into the Pump Head, 5. Screw the Knurled Nut (the Mouth ) of the pump head back into place. No special tools are required all the changes can be made with your own fingers. The Knurled nut needs only be finger tight to ensure an airtight seal. Please see the following pages for a detailed description, diagrams and photographs of the components and the orientations required for both Presta and Schrader formats. 3

4 Configuration details for Presta/Schrader Valves The following pages are provided to assist owners to clearly identify components of the 4MyCycle Mini Bike Pump - and clarify component orientation requirements for both Presta and Schrader valve formats. A graphic which appears on the rear of the packaging that comes with the 4MyCycle Mini Bike Pump, is a diagram of the components in the order of assembly for each of the two valve types (Presta and Schrader). The diagram is shown below with added numbering to assist in identifying the items: The items by number are as follows: 1. Mouth Section the Knurled nut 2. Dust Cap 3. Seal Ring an O Ring (fits on knurled nut above the screw threads, directly under the knurled section of the nut) 4. Valve Top a Rubber housing (cross section view) 5. Ensure that the pump head is well seated over the tire valve. 2. Raise the wrench lever to lock the pump head onto the tire valve. Then commence pumping to inflate your tire, supporting the pump head and tire valve with your hand as shown. Once your tire is inflated as desired, remove the pump by: 1. First unlocking the pump head from the tire valve by lowering the wrench lever. 2. The pump can then be removed from the tire valve. DO NOT remove the pump by the use of force before lowering the wrench lever, as this can damage both the pump components and the tire valve stem. 7
