The October D.E.A.R.S. Club meeting was very well attended. Thank you to all club members who joined us. We gained 3 new members Welcome to the Club Brad, John and Gregg. 1
The Ride4Ronald Event was a huge success with D.E.A.R.S. proving radio communication for Rest Stop 2/7. Thank you to those who participated and represented our club. 2
Ken drove the van to our location and kept and listened to the radio for any communication needs during the race. 3
Ricardo decided we should put the antenna on the mast of the van. 4
Larry was checking out the poster indicating the bicycle routes and where our rest stop was located on the pathway. 5
Fox News employees assisted with the distribution of the snacks and drinks for our cyclists in the race. 6
Larry explained to Ken why he shouldn t eat the donut in his hand but he was going to eat it anyway! 7
Ricardo and Larry put together the antenna to install on the van mast. 8
Ricardo bravely climbed up and installed the antenna. 9
After testing, we found the antenna worked very well and increased our radio capabilities. 10
Some of the cyclists stopping for a quick snack. 11
And then proceeding on to finish the race. 12
Ricardo took over radio communications and Ken yelled at me to stop taking his picture!! 13
More cyclists coming in for a snack and a little bit of rest. 14
Larry took the camera and I gave him the glaring stare for taking my picture. I hate pictures of me!! 15
16
Another cyclist comes in for a snack. 17
He really wanted Ricardo s sandwich and Ricardo contemplated whether or not he wanted to give it away. 18
Obviously, the answer was no and our cyclist had to see what other type of snack he could find for himself. 19
In the afternoon, Fox News left and Value Pawn employees took over the distribution process. 20
McDonalds provided all the snacks and beverages for the event. 21
More cyclists departing after partaking of some snacks. 22
Can you believe the smile after cycling for 88 miles? Amazing!! 23
Another great smile! 24
And here come more cyclists after 88 miles!! 25
Another friendly cyclist doing an amazing job! 26
Friendly conversation and team support to urge each other to complete the race. 27
Ricardo spent some time talking to a couple of the Rovers for the race. 28
The WD4WDW D.E.A.R.S. club station was on the air for Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19 th. 29
Propagation was not in our favor but we still managed to make approximately 50 contacts on the radio. 30
Our favorite Pirate stopped by the shack to say hello. 31
He even got on the radio and made some contacts!! 32
Kathy talked to Captain Mickey and asked him to join us next year for Talk Like a Pirate Day. He smiled. 33
We hosted our first D.E.A.R.S. net on Wednesday, September 23 at 7 pm with 8 participants. 34
Gary and Lynn Ownsby dropped by and Gary graciously agreed to talk to our club. His Powerpoint presentation is posted on this blog for your reading enjoyment. Thank you, Gary for giving me permission to post it. 35
Gary said I needed to make sure he looked thin if I posted his picture, so with Disney Magic, I made us all look thinner. 36
Thank you to everyone who attended!! Watch for details of our November Club Meeting coming soon! 37
