The han lever on one sie of the hub whih reates a lamping fore via a am when you lose it. 2. The tightening nut on the other sie of the hub with whih the preloa on the threae ro (quik-release axle) is set ENLSH OWNER S MNUL 2017 ROD BKE ENLSH 21

12 Do not touh the brake is iretly after having stoppe, e.g. after a long own-hill rie, you may burn your fingers! lways let the brake is ool own before opening the quik-release. Safastening of a omponent with a quik-release Open the quik-release. You shoul now be able to rea Open (a) on the lever. Make sure the omponent to bastene is in the aurate position. For more information see the hapters justing the SCOTT bike to the rier an Wheels an tyres an the manuals of the omponent manufaturers on this SCOTT info CD. Move the lever bak, as if to lose it. Now you shoul be able to rea Close on the outsie of the lever. When you start losing the lever you shoul feel virtually no resistane with your han until the lever is at a right angle to thrame/ fork (b). When ontinuing to lose the lever the resistane you feel shoul inrease signifiantly an towars the en even more strength is require to lose the lever. Use the ball of your thumb while your fingers pull on an immovable part, suh as the fork () or a rear stay, but not on rake is or spoke, to push it in all the way. n its en position, the lever shoul be at a right angle to the quik-release axle (), i.e. it shoul not stan out. The lever shoul lie lose to thrame or thork so that it annot be opene aientally. Make sure, however, that the lever is easy to hanlor atual quik use. To hek whether the lever is seurely loke apply pressure to the en of the han lever an try to turn it while it is lose (e). f you an turn the lever aroun, open it an inrease the preloa. Srew the tightening nut on the opposite sie lokwise by half a turn. Close the quik-release lever an hek it again for tightness. Finally lift the bike a few entimetres, so that the wheel no longer touhes the groun an hit the tyrrom above. f it is properly fastene, the wheel will remain firmly fixe in the rop-outs of thrame or fork without prouing any rattling. f your seat post is equippe with a quik-release mehanism, hek whether the sale is firmly fixe by trying to twist it relative to thrame (f). Make sure the levers of both wheel quik-releases are always on the sie opposite to the hain. This will help you to avoi mounting thront wheel aientally the wrong way roun. n the ase of SCOTT bikes with is brakes an quik-releases having a 5-mm-axle, it may be reasonable to mount both quik-releases with the lever on the sie of the hain rive. This helps you not to ome into ontat with the hot brake is an prevents you from having your fingers burnt. f you are in oubt or if you have any questions, ontat your SCOTT ealer. Never rie your SCOTT bike without having hekirst, whether the wheels are seurely fastene. With an insuffiiently lose quik-release the wheel an ome loose, thus reating a serious risk of aient! CUTON! f your SCOTT roike has thru axles, rea the manuals of the thru-axle an wheel manufaturers on this SCOTT info CD. CUTON! f your SCOTT bike is equippe with quik-releases, be sure to lok the frame to an immovable objet together with the wheels when you leave it outsie. nti-theft protetion! To be on the safe sie you an replae the quik-releases by speial loks. They an only be opene an lose with a speial, oe key or an llen key. f you are in oubt or if you have any questions, ontat your SCOTT ealer. fter wheel mounting test the brakes in stationary. You shoul reah the pressure point of the brake before the brake lever reahes the hanlebars. n the ase of hyrauli brakes pump them, if neessary, until you reah a preise pressure point. 22 ENLSH OWNER S MNUL 2017 ROD BKE ENLSH 23

13 DT Swiss RWS quik-release system The RWS system from DT Swiss (a-) for roa raing an ylo-ross raing bikes is a speial type of quik-releasor front an rear wheels. The RWS system is ompatible with all stanar rop-outs. Make sure uring the assembly that the axles, the hubs, the rop-outs of the fork an the rear frame are lean. Clean the omponents with an absorbent loth, if neessary, by using water an a little etergent. n ase you o not suee in ajusting an fixing the wheel, as esribe, ontat your SCOTT ealer. Wheel mounting Put thront wheel into thork an mount the rotor simultaneously, if neessary, in the brake alliper. Make sure that in the area of the rear wheel the hain runs over the sprokets an over both pulleys of the rear erailleur. Bring thront or the rear wheel into the orret position between the ropouts an thork or rear frame an slie the RWS quik-release axlrom the left sie through the rop-outs an the hub. Mount the lok nut on the right sie. Hol the lok nut on the right sie of the hub tight. Turn the RWS quik-release lever lokwise to pre-tighten the RWS system. Depening on thork mounte or thrame moel, the number of turns you nee varies. You nee at least six, in most ases however more turns. During thirst turns you shoul be able to turn the RWS quik-release lever nearly without resistane. Turn the quik-release lever subsequently forefully lokwise until the axle is han-tight. Make sure the RWS quik-release lever oes not stan out to thront (). Open the RWS quik-release lever a little (e, position 1) to bring it into a favourable position. Turn the quik-release lever then into the esire position (e, position 2) an re-lose it towars the hub (e, position 3). Close the release lever of the brake or hook in the able. tuate the brake lever to make the brake work. The brake pas of rim brakes must hit the rim evenly with their entire surfae without touhing the tyre uring braking, in open onition or in between. Lift the wheel an give it a strong tap from above. The wheel must be seurely fixe an must not rattle. Wheel removal To open the RWS system turn the quik-release lever antilokwise (f) by holing the lok nut tight on the other sie of the hub. Typially, you nee not open the RWS system ompletely. Open it only so far until the wheel slies off the rop-outs. Your SCOTT ealer will be please to help you hoosrom the numerous types of tyres. f you want to mount a new tyre, you nee to observe the sizing system an the atual size of the ol tyre. The latter is speifie in two ifferent units on the sie of the tyre. One of the sizes is the stanarise size in millimetres whih is more preise, e.g. the number sequene means that the tyre is 23 mm wie when fully inflate an has an inner tyre iameter of 622 millimetres. The other size is iniate in inhes (e.g. 23x7/8 or 700x23) (a). Tyres must be inflate to the proper inflation pressure (b) to provie an optimal ompromise between smooth running an riing omfort. Properly inflate tyres are also more resistant to puntures. n insuffiiently inflate tyre an easily get pinhe ( snakebite ) when it goes over a sharp kerb. The air pressure reommene by the manufaturer is given on the tyre sie () or on the type label. The lower of the two pressure speifiations makes for better ushioning for lightweight riers an is therefore best for yling on a rough surfae. Rolling resistane on level groun ereases with growing pressure, but so oes omfort. Highly inflate tyres are therefore most suitablor heavy riers an for riing on tarre roas (). Therefore, ajust the pressure to your weight an your riing habits. Clinher an foling tyres an rim alone are not able to hol the air. Therefore, an inner tube has to be plae insie the tyre (f) to retain the air pressure. Rims of linher an foling tyres require in general a high-value rim tape over the omplete with of the rim base. This rim tape protets the inner tubrom the braking heat whih oul make the tyre burst. n the ase of tubular tyres that must be glue on the rim the tube is alreay integrate into the tyre an an be neither remove, nor pathe in the ase of a punture. 45 Deforme omponents, espeially omponents mae of aluminium, an break without previous warning. They must not be repaire, i.e. straightene, as this will not reue the imminent risk of breakage. This applies in partiular to thork, the hanlebars, the stem, the ranks, the seat post an the peals. When in oubt, it is always the better hoior your safety to have these parts replae. sk your SCOTT ealer for avie. f your SCOTT bike is assemble with arbon omponents, it is imperative that you have it heke by your SCOTT ealer after an aient or similar inient. Carbon is extremely strong an urable with very low weight, making it perfet for the proution of high-performane parts. However, one of the inherent properties of arbon is that possible overstress may ompromise the inner arbon fibre struture without showing any visible eformation, as is the ase with steel or aluminium. amage omponent an fail without previous warning. Risk of falling! CUTON! Make it a rule to hek thuntioning an in partiular the limit stop of the rear erailleur after a fall or if your SCOTT bike has topple over. CRBON PRTCULR MTERL Speial harateristis of omponents mae of arbon-fibre reinfore plastis, also referre to as arbon or CRP, nee to be taken into aount. Carbon (a) is an extremely strong material whih ombines high resistane with low weight. fter overstress, however, arbon omponents (b), unlike metal parts, o not neessarily show urable or visible eformation even though some of thibres may be amage. t is very angerous to ontinue using the arbon omponent after an impat or unue stress, as it may fail without previous warning thereby ausing an aient with unforeseeable onsequenes. For this reason we reommen that you have the omponent, or to be ertain, the entire SCOTT bike () heke by your SCOTT ealer after every inient, suh as e.g. a fall. Damage omponents must be replae at one! Prevent further use by taking appropriate measures, i.e. saw the omponent into piees. Damage arbon frames an possibly be repaire. Contat your SCOTT ealer. Carbon omponents must not be expose to exessive heat. Therefore, never have a arbon omponent enamelle or power-oate. The temperatures require for enamelling or power-oating oul estroy the omponent. Do not leave arbon fibre omponents near a soure of heat or in your ar uring hot or sunny weather. n aition, arbon is sensitive to pressure. Therefore, o not mount your SCOTT frame on a mounting arrier with inappropriate lamps (). Carbon omponents have, like all lightweight bike omponents, a limite servie life. For this reason, have the stem an the hanlebars heke at regular intervals (e.g. every three years), even if they have not experiene any unue stress, suh as an aient. When you inten to transport your SCOTT bike in the boot of your ar, be sure to protet the bike or the arbon frame an omponents. Blankets (e), foam tubes or the like are a suitable paing to protet the sensitive material from amage. Do not plae any bags on your SCOTT bike lying in your ar. lways park your SCOTT bike arefully (f) an make sure it oes not topple over. Carbon frames an omponents may alreay sustain amage by simply toppling over an thereby hitting e.g. a sharp ege. f arbon omponents on your SCOTT bike proue any reaking or raking noises or show any external sign of amage, suh as gouges, raks, ents, isolorations et., o not use the SCOTT bike any longer. 46 Do not ombine arbon hanlebars with bar ens, unless they have been speifially approve. Do not shorten arbon hanlebars or lamp the brake levers an shifters more in the mile than iniate or neee. Risk of breakage! Make sure all arbon lamping areas are absolutely free of grease an other lubriants! rease will penetrate the surfae of the arbon material, thereby reuing the oeffiient of frition. This will no longer provie reliable lamping within the presribe torque values. One grease, arbon omponents may never again ensure reliable lamping! Use a speial arbon assembly paste (a) instea as offere by various manufaturers. CUTON! Most lamps of bike arrier systems are potential soures of amage to large-iameter frame tubes! s a result thereof arbon frames an fail uring use without previous warning. However, there are speial-purpose moels whih are suitable, available in the ar aessory trae. nform yourself there or ask your SCOTT ealer for avie. CUTON! Do not lamp a arbon frame or seat post in the holing jaws of a workstan (b)! The omponents may sustain amage. Mount a stury (aluminium) seat post instea an use it to lamp thrame, or hoose a work stan that hols thrame at three points insie thrame triangle or whih lamps the fork an bottom braket shell. Protet the expose areas of your arbon frame (e.g. the hea tube an the unersie of the own tube) against rubbing ables or stone hips with speial pas (+) your SCOTT ealer keeps for sale. Carbon fibre omponents are partiularly vulnerable to amage ause by exessive lamping fore. Carbon assembly paste reates extra frition between two surfaes, allowing the neessary torque value to be reue by up to 30 % (a). This is espeially useful in the lamping areas of hanlebars an stem, steerer tube an stem as well as seat post, i.e. three areas where too muh lamping fore an amage either omponent, ausing omponent failure or voiing the warranty. By reuing the lamping fore, arbon assembly paste relieves stress on sensitive arbon surfaes, preventing amage to fibres or the raking of the arbon substruture. THE HEDSET ON THE SCOTT BKE The heaset (e) onnets thork to thrame, but allows it to movreely. t must turn with virtually no resistane, if the SCOTT bike is to run straight, stabilising itself as it travels. Shoks ause by uneven roa surfaes expose the heaset to onsierable levels of stress. n this way it an beome loose an go out of orret ajustment. Riing the biyle with a loose heaset inreases the stress on fork an bearings. This an lea to amage to thork. Risk of falling! Cheking an reajusting Chek the heaset for play by plaing your fingers aroun the upper hea tube rae. Bring your weight to bear on the sale, pull thront brakes with your other han an push the SCOTT bikirmly bak an forth with the wheel remaining on the groun (f). f the bearing has play, you will feel the upper hea tube rae moving in jerks relative to the lower hea tube rae - visible as a small gap in between the hea tube raes. 90 ENLSH OWNER S MNUL 2017 ROD BKE ENLSH 91

47 To hek whether the heaset runs smoothly, lift thrame up until thront wheel no longer touhes the groun. THREDLESS HEDSET HEDSET The istint feature of this system is that the stem oes not sit within thork steerer tube, but rather slips over thork steerer tube, whih in this ase is threaless. The stem is thus an important part of the heaset, as the stem lamping fixes the ajustment. You generally only nee one or two llen keys an a torque wrenh to ajust an heaset. Release the lamping bolt(s) loate on the sie of the stem by one to two turns (b). ently tighten the ountersunk ajusting bolt on top a little, e.g. by a quarter turn (), using an llen key. Realign the stem to ensure that the hanlebars are at right angle to the wheel. Make sure thront wheel is in line with the top tube an the stem. Tighten the lamping bolts of the stem. The main avantage is that these step-in peals prevent your feet from slipping off when pealling fast. They enable you not only to push but also to pull the peals. This makes your pealling more smooth an inreases the power transmission ompare to normal peals. The usual way to engage with the peal is to turn it from the lowest position of the rank to the horizontal using the tip of the leat an push own on the bak of it. ENERL NOTES ON CRE ND SERVCN MNTENNCE ND SERVCN YOUR SCOTT BKE Your SCOTT ealer will have assemble an ajuste your SCOTT bike reay for use when you ome to ollet it. Nevertheless, your SCOTT bike nees regular serviing (a). Have your loal SCOTT ealer o the sheule maintenane work. This is the only way to ensure that all omponents funtion safely an reliably for many kilometres. The bike will be uor its first servie after 100 to 300 kilometres, 5 to 15 hours of initial use or four to six weeks, at the latest however after three months. The being-in phase typially involves spokes slightly losing tension or gears oming out of ajustment (b), so there is every reason to have your SCOTT ealer servie the SCOTT bike at this stage. This being-in proess is unavoiable. Therefore, remember to make an appointment with your SCOTT ealer to have your new SCOTT bike inspete. This first servie is very important for both funtioning an urability of your SCOTT bike. t is avisable to have your SCOTT bike servie regularly by your SCOTT ealer after the being-in phase, i.e. aoring to the SCOTT servie an maintenane sheule. f you rie a great eal on poor roa surfaes or off-roa, it will require orresponingly shorter servie perios (see SCOTT servie plan). The off-season uring the winter months is a very goo time to take your SCOTT bike to your SCOTT ealer for the annual inspetion, as they will have plenty of timor you an for serviing your SCOTT bike. The intene use of your SCOTT bike inlues regular serviing an the replaement of worn out parts in time, e.g. hains, brake pas () or bowen an brake ables (). This will ensure the safuntioning an therefore has an influene on the liability for material efets an the warranty. For more information see the hapter SCOTT servie an maintenane sheule an the manuals of the omponent manufaturers on this SCOTT info CD. Serviing an repairs are jobs best left to your SCOTT ealer. f you have your bike servie by anyone else than an expert, you run the risk that parts of your SCOTT bike will fail. Risk of aient! When working on your SCOTT bike restrit yourself to jobs for whih you have the suitable tools, e.g. a torque wrenh, an the neessary knowlege. f a omponent nees to be replae, make it a rule to only use original spare parts (e). Wearing parts of other manufaturers, e.g. brake pas or tyres that are not of iential imension, may rener your SCOTT bike unsafe. Risk of aient! CLENN ND CRN FOR YOUR SCOTT BKE Drie sweat, irt an salt from riing uring the winter or in sea air an harm your SCOTT bike. You shoul therefore make it a habit of leaning all omponents at regular intervals (f). voi leaning your bike with a high-pressure leaner. The high-pressure jet is likely to enter bearings by passing through the seals an ilute the lubriants hereby inreasing thrition. This estroys an impairs thuntioning of the bearing raes in the long term. High-pressure jets are also likely to remove frame an rim stikers. muh more gentle way of leaning your bike is with a low-pressure water jet or uket of water an a sponge or a large brush. Cleaning your bike by han has another positive sie-effet: You may isover efets in the paint as well as worn or efetive omponents at an early stage. 104 ENLSH OWNER S MNUL 2017 ROD BKE ENLSH 105

54 fter leaning an rying (a) hek the hain for wear (b) an relubriate () (see the hapter Biyle hain an the manuals of the omponent manufaturers on this SCOTT info CD). pply a oat of stanar har wax () on painte, metal an arbon surfaes (exept from brake surfaes an brake iss). Polish the waxe surfaes after rying to give them a nie shine. Keep leaning agents an hain oil lear of the brake pas, brake iss an rim sies (braking surfaes). Otherwise the brake oul fail. Never grease or lubriate the lamping areas of a frame mae of arbon, e.g. hanlebars, stem, seat post an seat tube. One grease, arbon omponents may never again ensure reliable lamping! While leaning, wath out for raks, srathes, ents as well as eforme or isoloure material. Have efetive omponents replae immeiately an touh up paint efets. f you are in oubt or if you have any questions, ontat your SCOTT ealer. CUTON! Do not lean your SCOTT bike with a high-pressure leaner or a water jet an if you o, be sure to keep it at a istane. Do not aim at the bearings. CUTON! Only use petroleum-base solvents for leaning tough oil or grease stains from paint an arbon surfaes. Never use egreasing agents ontaining aetone, methyl hlorie or the like, or solvent-ontaining, non-neutral or hemial leaning agents that oul attak the surfae! SHELTERN ND STORN YOUR SCOTT BKE f you regularly look after your SCOTT bike uring the season, you will not nee to take any speial measures when storing it for a short time, apart from seuring it against theft. Store your bike in a ry, well aerate plae. f you want to store your SCOTT bikor a longer perio of time, e.g. over the winter months, please observe thollowing things: nflate inner tubes ten to graually lose air when the bike is not usor a long time. f your SCOTT bike is left staning on flat tyres for an extene perio, this an ause amage to the struture of the tyres. t is therefore better to hang the wheels or the entire SCOTT bike (e) or to hek the tyre pressure regularly (f). Clean your SCOTT bike an protet it against orrosion. Your SCOTT ealer offers a variety of are prouts, suh as spray wax et. Dismount the seat post an let ry away possibly penetrate humiity. Spray a littlinely atomize oil into the metal seat tube. However, o not apply oil in a arbon seat tube. Shift the gear to the smallest hainring an the smallest sproket. This relaxes the ables an the springs. a CUTON! Do not hang your SCOTT bike on arbon rims. Mount instea at least one aluminium wheel. There are harly any waiting times at your SCOTT ealer uring the winter months. n aition, many SCOTT ealers offer an annual hek-up at a speial prie. Benefit from the ile time an ask your SCOTT ealer to o the sheule maintenane work! 106 ENLSH OWNER S MNUL 2017 ROD BKE ENLSH 107
