Within 24 hours, report this information to the police.

ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS In order to prevent confusion on the roads, a set of road traffic signs has been devised to help guide and direct the traffic flow. These signs have been divided into four categories: 1. Regulatory road signs; 2. Warning road signs; 3. Guidance / information road signs; 4. Road surface markings. Regulatory Signs Most of the regulatory road signs are round in shape. There are a few exceptions, some of which are shown below. STOP SIGN YIELD SIGN / GIVE WAY SIGN ONE WAY SIGN NO ENTRY SIGN NO PARKING NO U-TURN SIGN You are required by law to obey all REGULATORY road signs and failure to do so can result in a fine from the Traffic Department.

ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS cont Yield Sign Decrease speed and give way to the traffic on the road that you are approaching. Enter the road only when it is safe to do so. No U-Turn You may not make a U-turn at this point. No Parking You may not park in an area where this sign is displayed. Traffic Lights (Steady Lights) Steady red light: stop before the line; Steady green light: go; Steady amber light: slow down and stop before line; Steady green arrow: you may go in the direction indicated by the arrow.

WARNING ROAD SIGNS... Warning signs all have one thing in common; they are all triangular in shape with the point of the triangle pointing upwards. Where the warning relates to the road, the lines on the sign indicate the form that the road ahead takes. Where the signs relate to people, things or other traffic, the warning is shown in the form of a picture. Jetty Edge or river bank Uneven roadway Crosswinds

WARNING ROAD SIGNS cont... Slippery Road Slow down and drive carefully in the vicinity of this sign because the road may be slippery. Two Way Traffic The road ahead carries traffic moving in two directions. Slow down and keep left. Crossroads There is a crossroad ahead, slow down and check in both directions before proceeding. Sharp Junction A potentially dangerous sharp junction ahead. Slow down and look out for stop or yield signs and vehicles entering the junction.

Roadwork Signs (Temporary Signs) Roadwork signs are also warning signs, but are usually red and yellow in colour.

Guidance and Information Road Signs General Information Signs These inform the motorist of towns, distances, facilities ahead, or of map route references. If it is your intention to make use of any facilities indicated on the signs, do so with due regard for the safety of yourself and other road users. Sharp Curve Indicates a sharp curve To right To Left Thank You Acknowledges the patience or courtesy of a driver, and if often found at the end of a detour.

Road Surface markings Road surface markings are painted on the surface of the roadway in white or yellow paint. Centre Line Indicates the centre of the roadway and is a guide to motorists. Keep to the left of it. You may cross over it if you wish to overtake another vehicle and if it is safe to do so.
